What were Ferrandis words, exactly?
I don't know about that interview, but he was on PulpMX not long ago and said the following:
“If I finish in the top five of the outdoor championship, my contract will automatically be renewed for next year,” explained Dylan Ferrandis. “We’re in discussions. For me, it’s either I stay with the Ducati team or I stop. At this stage of my career and considering where I am in my life, I don’t want to make another change. The people in the team are people I’ve been working with for a few years now. They’re great, they’re passionate about the sport and we genuinely enjoy working together. I don’t really see myself, at 32 years old, changing teams, working with new people and having to build new relationships all over again. Obviously, we’re in discussions. I know they’re pretty happy with the work I’ve done on the bike. For me, it’s either I continue with Ducati or I retire.”

"I'm thirty-two. In the week, I cannot do a full week of testing. I must rest and recover. Lately, I've been struggling a little bit with that. I ride once a week and cannot do much. The team wants to do more and I'm like, 'boys, I am sorry. I have to recover.' It's frustrating and difficult for me, but I really try to do my best."

Fair enough, the guy is 31-years-old. They were discussing him on the Fly Racing Racer X podcast and said he can only ride one day per week because of his age.
When these guys hit their 30s and they still having nagging injuries...they need -time off- to heal, rehab, recover. Dylan is being damn smart and you might have noticed that he's been consistently "more competitive" as of late...?
I've noticed that sometimes these guys let the time off affect them negatively as if they're losing out by NOT riding all the time.
Funny-fact: while riding is important and the skill set required to race at the speeds Dylan races at are certainly "perishable"...I'm seeing him ride better and seemingly hungrier on race day and that seems to be an upside of NOT riding all the time and letting himself recover and heal.
I'm pretty stoked for him and won't be surprised if he sticks around for another year. Honestly, I'd like to see him and Justin on Team TLD Ducati in '27.

So here’s Dylan’s main crashes (the best I can gather)
-2018 Atlanta: clipped a tuff block and landed into the face of a jump - broken arm, teeth, jaw
-2022 Fox Raceway: minor tip over (high side) but had a completely torn ligament in his thumb and required immediate surgery. This prevented him from defending outdoor title.
-2023 Houston SX main: collided into the back of Roczen. Was knocked unconscious for several minutes. Race was red flagged. Tried to come back at Daytona, suffered a massive practice crash knocking him out of ‘23 SX.
Did the check clear?
If I remember the Pala crash in '22 correctly, it was press day and he had a relatively mild crash on the back side of a hill built in a corner but there was no flagger, or maybe the flagger was in a bad spot and couldn't see him. He got hit by someone who didn't know he was there, and that's how he ended up with so much damage to his thumb.

Dylan’s pretty young but he’s pretty banged up. Thumb injuries are tough.
What a bummer that was. I was so stoked or see him attempt to defend that title. Prime Dylan was such a fun watch.
Anyone catch the discussion on pulp this week? Sure seems like Windham / quad lock are going to be Honda amateur and 250 program in the future with factory Honda being potentially 450 only and more 250 guys getting full factory support through quad lock. Basically quad lock being the Honda version of star. That's what I pieced together listening to it at least.
Does star have to offer these kids the world? Or are they choosing to go there because they have the best chance at success on the star yamaha?

At this point Dylan knows what he is doing, the bike is what it is, he can turn up for gate drops, and be competitive.
Recovery is so important, its not about being old, its about knowing that when you are, things take a little longer to get back to good.
Being young and stupid with regards injuries, is what teaches you this when you get older.

Maybe. Barcia has had some rough rides, especially getting landed on in SX. Unfortunately, he hasn’t done well after that. Ducati needs someone else.
Both. Over the past few years you had a rider paying for a ride, and another making about 350kand a lot in between. They outbid KTM for Minear and Davies.
From what Blair said it was more about path to pros than anything. Star could offer it and ktm couldn’t.
That is true, but still, KTM wanted both and offered both deals, but Star came in with what both families wanted.
Davies at least went to Danial and asked him to match it.
Idk, barcia has been top 10 and fighting for top 5's the last few rounds. He's right outside the Laws, deegs and prado, at this point id say thats dong pretty good considering where he was after his crash
