It’s difficult to fault reporting facts without drawing any conclusions regarding guilt or innocence or any judgments. It’s information that’s a matter of public record and is available to anyone.  As such, it may have been reported by someone else if Racer X didn’t report it.

the objection to reporting these facts, I take it, is that since little is known, the report invites speculation, much of which will be assuming the worst, causing reputational damage. To what extent is a journalist responsible for readers’ adverse inferences when they haven’t said anything to suggest anything beyond the facts - beyond reporting that an arrest was made and the nature of the charges? In other words, what has the journalist done wrong if people are doing something wrong by jumping to conclusions that weren’t supported by the reporting? No rights have  been violated. The worst that can be said is that Racer X could have refrained from publishing the story as a courtesy. Not to minimize the value of courtesy - such things can be important. Was such a courtesy owed here? Frankly, I’m not sure what to say.

Nah, it was when the lynch mob started going after his teenaged daughters that made him leave. And I don't even blame him for that, to be honest. Some people here get insanely weird.

A major figure in the sport getting arrested is news. Hopefully it's not as bad as it looks. Also, in the social media age, riders and family have their own avenues to inform the public of their side of the story. Looks like it was theft of less than $750.

He is slated to be racing here in the UK in September at VMXdN.    I guess we will find out at some point.

According to Mike himself it was something about a fishing net that was over at a neighbor’s lawn that he picked up and the neighbor called the cops on Mike.

This could be something dumb that is getting blow out of proportion. I worked with Tony and Mike back when he was on motoconcepts and they very professional and easy to deal with. They were good dudes.

Sure it’s news, but not all news needs to be reported right away as a breaking story. Context matters. And the context that matters most in this day and age is clicks…. and this is about as clickbait-y as they come.  Let’s be clear: the website is a business and the bottom line is what matters most.

To post this article and not Jason Anderson was pure bias one way or the other.

He took a fishing a net off his neighbors carport. We can put the pitchforks away.

What? A fishing net on a carport?

Was Mike just taking matters into his own hands enforcing HOA rules or something?

Did a concerned neighbor film this net heist?

They are damned either way with vital. They don’t report it, everyone claims they are covering it up and then kooky breaks the news and he’s the only one willing to speak the truth. And now they report and are being told they shouldn’t?

Hates a strong word, ruining the sport we love seems apparent though. 20 minute outdoor motos coming soon,  as well as staunch DC defenders.

A fishing net? Who gets arrested and booked over a neighbors fishing net? Mikes neighbor didn’t know that was Mike taking his fishing net? Even if there was a misunderstanding they can’t talk it out so no one gets arrested over a fishing net?

There has to be more to the story

The pitchforks are pointed at RacerX/DC, they aren't going away anytime soon. If Cooksey reports this he's a hero to those who have taken over Vital.

I'm not into kicking a person when they're down. I hope Mike is ok, and learns from this.

I think a lot of those profiles are DC himself.

Keep this same energy the next time someone steals something out of your garage.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day.

Teach a man to fish and the next day he will steal the net off your carport so he can go fishing.
