"I did take a shot at you and did not expect a smile."

You know what else I've learned in the past few years? In no world do I have to put up with people like you. Just because we have freedom of speech doesn't mean I have to put up with you. I think people have forgotten that just because you can say stuff on the internet that would get you punched in the face in person, it doesn't mean you should you should post that way. Goodbye.

(For anyone who's going to ask, yes, this user has now been banned and the account blocked. No, I don't enjoy this part of the job, but I will not be treated this way in my place of work every day. Ask me hard questions if you want, I'll do my best to answer them. My answer may not always be satisfactory, but that is no reason to come at me and start shit.)

How hard would it be for someone in the know to text any of the media guys they know and say "the guys just need to submit the right paperwork to get paid" and then the story goes away with a tweet.

Or get that info for the riders asking about it at riders meetings before it ends up being discussed on a podcast.

Even if it's the case that it's on the riders to get paperwork submitted, it's still a clown show that it's gotten to this point.

Doesn’t explain Oldenburg’s question about getting paid though. Unless we’re saying the Keefer’s got that wrong too.

The participants are young racers, not accountants, if educated at all. If whomever is supposed to pay them and can't because of incomplete paperwork, the onus is on the people who owe the money. They are the organizers...so organize. You just can't say fuck it he didn't complete paperwork, we are not paying him. If they don't complete paperwork to get paid why in the fuck are they allowed to compete? Bush league. Bunch of Simon says, dog ate my homework, pussy ass, childish excuses.

Racer Productions seem like everyone does multiple jobs and I wouldn't be surprised if the Direct Deposit person is hanging banners in Tennesse this week.

Isn't Aden 20 years old?

No accounting knowledge necessary,  W9 is a form that asks for your contact info and what account to send the money.
Every (legal) employer is going to ask for this info.

Ok, say Aden is 32 years old, 3 kids, been racing for 16 years. He didn't fill out the paperwork, why is he allowed to race? I owned a business for decades, I would go without eating to pay my people, how can these people sleep nights? Say in your scenario, wouldn't you think over the course of 7 weeks someone in charge of the series would say, "Fill out your paperwork please". To him, Towers, Oldenberg or any one of the riders mentioned?

I listened to the audio clip. For Him to say that they were only talking about themselves when they said nobody is crazy. You dont say that and mentioned other riders by name if your only talking about yourself. So im sorry thats either a lie or stupidity one or the other.  Also to say "he needs to clear up conspiracy theories" he should realise he started these theories by his own words. After reading this statement I have lost a lot of respect for Kris Keefer.

I just heard this in passing, like two weeks ago, and didn't have much to go off of other than on-side's take.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a fan of the "I heard something but can't tell you about it" style of things. I feel like I'm good 98% of the time at just being blunt and not doing that.

I also don't like spreading misinformation without double-checking if I'm actually going to report on something, officially. In the case right now, Kris just blurted a bit on his pod and maybe didn't have all the facts straight, so now it's a shit show that's coming back on him.

Hey man, I get it. It’s a tough line to walk. I appreciate how you go about things most of the time. I know you are...

Hey man, I get it. It’s a tough line to walk. I appreciate how you go about things most of the time. I know you are doing your best.

What I can’t wrap my head around is how you, a media guy, says something like “didn’t have much to go off of except one side’s take”.

I get that you hear things all the time so I’m not here to light you up about not investigating this within two weeks and reporting back. However, do you not listen what has been repeated over and over again for years, on your site, about moto media?

Seems whenever something comes up, it’s the same story. Most of the media guys were already aware to some degree and none of them did anything to find out more, hence journalist always being put into quotes when preceded by the word moto.

So the question becomes…how do you decide what to report on?

From my POV, there seems to be a “no one reports on shit, until everyone reports on shit” thing going on in this industry. Don’t ask questions, just keep the weekly carousel entertainment flowing.

I don't have a good contact at WSX right now. The rider wasn't bothered by it and said it was all cleared up, and I have 19 million other things to work on. If it were a standing issue and I had a bunch of riders bringing it up, I'd do some digging.

I get told weird rumors, stories, and odd things nearly all day. I try to follow up on as much as I can, but as I've also learned the past year or so...a 18 hour a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year schedule is hard on the body...mind...and relationships/friendships. I took my first ever vacation this year since I became a "working man" over 15 years ago.

I'm also not a "full-time reporter". I'm not using this as a copout, but I hold a million roles. I'm the staff photographer, product reviewer, and director of all content. I run all our social media accounts, sales meetings, and I've been on over 80 airplanes this year...having easily spent over two weeks airborne. I also manage this forum, responsible for multiple weekly editorials, YouTube videos, and podcasts. I also spend a chunk of time each week giving brands, team owners, and some riders advice or connections they need. I deal with budgets, PL sheets, staff expense reports, and much more.

Remember that whole Deegan/bike claim debacle? I spent over 40 hours that week on phone calls, digging, texts, and producing a feature on that.

This is not News Weekly, where there are multiple reporters who can spend their entire working week on a single story.

As for what I decide to work on, stuff that matters to the majority of viewers and a big part of that is consistent features that people enjoy. Pit Bits, bike intros, the great race coverage we do, the interviews, this forum , the podcasts, reporting on the things I can get right and mean something to a broad amount of readers.

For some, the gritty darkness of the sport is what they care most about, but the broad user base doesn't as much. Gotta strike a balance and build something for everyone, not just be full TMZ 24/7.

I think I can speak for the majority of us here that we appreciate your efforts ML. Perhaps not agree with everything, but you stepping in to a hornets nest of a thread like this speaks volumes. Your parents raised you well, thanks for your efforts.

He's not an employee and he's not relying on the payout to feed a family.

MX Sports is reminding him to submit his info every pay cycle that he doesn't get paid.

It's not like it's a difficult thing to do, it's slightly more involved than signing up for the race.

Oh well in that case, bonus for MX Sports. Who can blame them for not paying the riders. You make a great point.

At minimum, Aden not getting paid is the reminder to get his w9 submitted.

He'll get back pay once he submits his paperwork,  MX Sports doesn't know where to send the money.

I'm not making anything up, that's how it works with contractors and event payouts.

I'm assuming because I don't know for sure, but that's not make believe, it's applying knowledge of how the world works and assigning probablities.

If I said a coin flip has a 50/50 chance of heads/tails, I'm not making things up. I don't know exactly what will happen, but I know a coin has 2 sides and equal probability of landing on either.

Missing W9 is the most likely scenario leading to the current situation, based on the information provided.

It also explains why Keefer went MIA, it's embarassing to call somebody out only to realize it's your goof.

You've assumed for a couple pages, the exact same, it must be someone elses fault. You haven't justified it with any answers about him talking with multiple riders and naming Oldenberg, who is a prominent rider.  Who clearly has been paid prior to this season. Quit assuming, because your only making an azz out of yourself as a shill.  Again, if it was only Keefer, we'd tend to agree.  But "nobody," and naming names other than him, one could *assume there's more to the story. So, shill on buddy.

I admire your tenacity.

Keefer clarified only "a couple riders" haven't been paid.

That implies most riders have been paid, which means the payment system is atleast partially functional.

We know riders must submit a W9 to get paid.

Is it more likely that the payment system has a glitch?  Or that a couple riders failed to give MXSports a W9?
From my experience, I'd say 1% probability of payment system glitch, and 99% probability of rider non compliance.

"On the show Aden said “no one has gotten paid”. Meaning, “no one” over here (AKA us, Aden Keefer). Maybe that was misconstrued into NO ONE has in ALL riders. Maybe I need to pay more attention while recording but usually these shows are raw/unfiltered. Also, Aden does know a couple riders who haven’t got paid yet but this also could be a bank issue?"

Quote: "Aden: “Yeah. Everyone’s been saying that. We’re seven rounds in, people. Nobody has gotten paid.”

And I admire your full on shillness.  Where does Keefer say he knows of any rider who has been paid?  It only states, the riders he knows, have not been paid.  Let's say he knows 10 that should have been paid.  He said no one and nobody.  So, from those 10 riders, none were paid.  Seems odd, that he'd happen to only associate with dumb riders who don't know how to fill out a w9.  That is including Oldenberg and Gavin who have been paid previously, so would know how to fill out said form.  As well, he was clearly speaking of other riders, by naming some at that time, so saying only his family was, well, you can clearly see what that was. Shill on...

I wouldn't assume either way without clarity.  I just find it odd, of every "no one/nobody" of all his acquaintances, he doesn't know any who have been paid.  Odd, nothing more, nothing less.  If you assume, well, you know what that does.

We can only look at the facts and statements presented plus what are the odds of something, and look for any inconsistencies.

Which scenario do you think is more likely?

A.There's a problem with the payments.
B. Aden didn't submit a W9 correctly.

There you go again, using partial information.

B. Should read.

B. Aden, Oldenberg, Gavin, and all riders he spoke with regarding getting paid (no one/nobody) "didn't submit a W9 correctly."

I'll stop with that.  Everyone here can now see what a shill you are.  You can't even admit when you clearly have lost an argument.  Good luck on your shilling.  Keep on keepin on.

As an engineer, when I was working in the corporate world managing projects I couldn't tell you guys how many times someone in finance decided they needed another document or an updated form so they didn't pay a supplier. You don't know until the supplier puts you on credit hold and you can't place new orders. The finance person always has an excuse like they emailed the supplier with god only knows what outdated email address they had on file and didn't hear back but never followed through. This isn't to pick on finance as a whole, every field has their duds, engineering included. But my point is I've had to deal with suppliers not getting paid for a host of reasons. It's usually not nefarious, it's incompetence.

I recently didn't / won't get paid on a big job and likely won't be getting that shiny new Honda either. Sometimes you just get screwed.

Aden didn't speak with Oldernburg, he overheard a conversation and assumed he knew the topic and purpose. Since you're a lawyer you might recognize that as hearsay?
