It will be hot and dusty by the end of Day 1.

There's a day or 2 of rain still coming, most notably, this Saturday.  But there are plenty of dry days between now and racing, shouldn't be a problem.

They should pick a new track for this race

I probably pulled a thousand vehicles in and out over the years when I was an equipment operator there. It never took much to make those fields a swamp. 

We were always told we could not hook the chains or straps to the vehicle because of liability if something got damaged

Here is a tip. If you are spending $250k for a rig to go to motocross events, spend a couple hundred more to get something fabricated to hook to when you have to get pulled.

and take plenty of bug spray because with all the puddles of still water that will be left when the water recedes the 'skeeters will make the people from south florida feel like they never left home.

I dont know what to believe. I read some of those pics are from the big flood a few years ago. Saw a local lady post saying the creeks in its banks and only some real low areas have some standing water outside the banks. 

Either way, its got a whole week to dry out.. im ready for whatever the mother nature whor throws at us.. lol

How would it be if something like this happened During the race week?

Do they have rapid flooding in the area?

This is Not in anyway a criticism of Loretta's - just a question as, it seems to grow into  pretty bloody a sizeable 'town', in and of itself, and if it were to flood rapidly, like overnight, it could be quite a disaster. Most places don't have multiple evacuation routes.

I live 45 miles away and we got over 4 inches of rain night before last. The picture I posted is current.

It doesn't look too bad based on the pics of the people already there camping.

 

This pic was obviously taken from the graveled camping areas behind the starting line and towards the creek. Naturally that area will be firmer ground, I’m quite sure they are more concerned about people pulling into the low areas that are just past the track.  Other than the road to pull in on, it’s just a grassy field and will be much softer than the gravel areas.  Like MX317(Mike Taylor), I live here in west Tennessee about 100 miles from the ranch.  We have had a lot of rain this year so I know those lower grassy fields will already be saturated and just getting a big motorhome and trailer parked in there will be a challenge. This will make it even more difficult. We have a good chance of more storms over the weekend before the temps and humidity go way up again next week.  Most likely Cotter put out that video to prevent a lot of unnecessary work trying to pull people across the field to a camping spot.  Been there enough times and through enough rainstorms to see plenty of people stuck down there.  

Water has already receded and it’s looking good as of now. It will be soft for parking, but track will be good to go. Hopefully the rains hold off because it’s been wet for July. It wouldn’t be Loretta’s without at least one good mud day. 

Saw a guy one time try to level his motorhome with a built in jack.

It slipped off the block without him realizing it and buried itself in the ground the full length of the shaft,and then would not retract. He had to crawl under and dig it out by hand, but anything else would have ripped it off.

Those grass fields are bottom land that had been farmed for years.

There is not bottom to it. nothing but silt that has been accumulating since Noah and his little zoo went through bug tussle.

Lots of damage will be done to the low lying fields. I can see an environment fee coming. Davie to buy 2 Jon Deeres and charge a tow in fee and tow out fee. 

When it is rough they have every piece of equipment out there. I remember one day seeing 3 dozers, 5 tractors, and a backhoe working nonstop for at least 10 hours, plus a farmer next door had 2 pieces of equipment in the field by the bridge at Loretta Lynn's house.

In the 10 years I worked there for both the bikes and the atv races they never collected any fees that I know of for towing in or out, even if the problem was because the person being towed made a poor decision (like trying to cut around a bottleneck).

I can't speak for everyone there but most of us turned down tips.

It is an unfortunate part of the event sometimes.

#2 stone where I live in east tennessee is almost $1000/load for around 24 tons delivered 20 miles from the quarry. you could spend a couple hundred thousand on rock for those lanes and after a wet event and a flood or two you would be lucky to find any sign of it. If you elevate the lanes they would collect silt along the edges and when you pull off you are instantly stuck.

As far as environmental stuff. It is a bunch of river bottom land. Some of it might even be used for hay, so it is agricultural. Thank God it is in Tennessee and not somewhere else that has a bunch of bullshit to deal with every time you dig a ditch.

Now that DC owns Ironman they need to move the event there.
