I'm not sure why you would join ICE with your situation. I definitely regret not collecting some military experience when I was younger as there are a lot of nice downstream perks as you mentioned. And I risked life and limb doing a lot of dumb shit as a kid already 😂. I know dudes now that are collecting full disability from service while they also work a good job now. I haven't been able to figure out the disability though, they still rip on moto and MTB.
I have travelled more than most, and have friends and colleagues on every continent. I have certainly seen some cool corners of the globe, and met some amazing people from all over it. I've done some defense work, but mostly in medical. This has certainly helped tune my perspective, as I love learning about people.
There are certainly things worth fighting for. As I said in the other thread, we started a revolution and a new country because we were taxed on sugar and paper products due to costs of a war effort that had no effect on the original colonies here.
We will all figure out how to work together again for a common cause at some point in the near future. Otherwise we may just be forced to without choice.

I broke C4-5-6 on active duty. I’ve got a severe case of PTSD. The VA will tell you that my Fight or Flight is broken, as I don’t have flight. My ex-wife used to ask me, “who are you fighting in your sleep”. Which I really don’t ever remember when I wake up.
Yep, I can still rip, sometimes, but it doesn’t make me any less disabled. Veterans commit suicide at a rate double of those who didn’t serve. We’re 6% of the nation, yet 14% are experiencing homelessness.
So yeah, I’ve got some opinions. I don’t toe any company line. And yeah, if they’re going to send our young men over there, we damn straight should take care of every single last one when they come home.

My opinion is that if we're going to send our young men and women somewhere to risk life and limb, it better be for really valid reasons.
The statistics are heartbreaking. And we should absolutely be supporting our service members long after their duty is done. That is our duty as a country - support those who support us.
Suicide in general is now the second leading cause of death for young folks in this country. Coincidentally, this statistical trend tracks very well with the evolution of social media.

It is my opinion that foreign money should not be spent to influence American elections. Candidates should not be allowed to accept it. I understand that AIPAC gets the most attention due to a rise in recent antisemitism, but they are not the only ones and they aren’t even the worst. Chinese influence in our elections borders on an act of war in my opinion yet no one seems to care. It’s interesting.

Corporate and outside influences are driving our elections. They are doing so by manipulating the voting public to vote in the interests of these entities. Or lobbying the elected officials put in place to represent the public to drive policy in their interests.
Look at Cambridge Analytica and our 2016 election.
Collectively, we are starting to identify the right issues. We are still looking in the wrong places.
I have a sibling in a Senate race currently. AIPAC and affiliates just pumped $40M into that race so the AIPAC candidate gets the seat.
Why are outside influences investing so much into our elections? Out of the kindness of their hearts? Because they want America to be great again?
Representative democracy doesn't work when the representatives put in place don't actually serve the best interests of their people. Democracy doesn't work when we compromise, eliminate, etc. the self correcting mechanisms put in place to prevent such abuse of power.
So that same freeway overpass is where there were many pro Palestinian protests over the last 2 years. These were much larger. 20 to 30 people, lots of banners and Palestinian flags, both sides of the overpass. At one time I almost decided to camera up and interview some of the protesters. I wanted to know why they were there and what did they expect to accomplish. I never did though. They stopped coming a few months ago. Now this. I just wonder if there is a connection. I have never really understood the whole protest thing. Especially now. It made some sense many years ago before the internet as a way of increasing awareness. Today, social media dwarfs these protests as far as spreading the word goes and that includes protests that get news coverage. Who the fuck watches the news anymore? One of these days I will stop and ask my 2 questions plus a couple more. I was in my truck yesterday and busy on a project but it's on my regular morning walk route. If I get something I will post it.
This is not in relation to the Jewish religion at all but Israel is hungry for American money. We subsidize a large portion of their defense through weapons sales and direct transfer of tax payer dollars. If there is a grass roots movement to halt or even investigate this subsidy, AIPAC jumps all over it and attempts to snuff it out with candidates who don’t ask questions. That is not an opinion, it is a matter of fact, all you need to do is look. War and or conflict is big business, if America is not involved Israel is more than happy to use munitions bought from American companies using American dollars. It’s a wild premise, same model being used in Ukraine. I am not here to argue a countries sovereign right to defense, I am simply stating what I can see with my own eyes. If the money stops, I would bet that diplomacy would return to the forefront of how countries interact with each other and handle issues. Just my .02 cents.
My personal bugaboo, and I'd be willing to bet has been very much pushed by AIPAC or similar groups, is the existence of the anti-BDS laws that punish companies who choose not to do business with Israel. That's just absolutely crazy shit to me.
I personally am not interested in boycotting Israel, but the notion that we have laws and regulations prohibiting Americans from making those choices themselves is ludicrous, and it should be a wake up call for everyone that there is something odd about our relationship with that country that needs a deep, deep rethinking.

The provision (originally Section 224 in the House Chairman’s Mark, later renumbered Section 219 in the House version; similar language appears as Section 1217 in the Senate version) is the “United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative.” It directs the Secretary of Defense to designate an executive agent in the Pentagon to synchronize and expand bilateral efforts on defense technology. This covers research, development, testing, evaluation, integration, industrial cooperation, co-production of systems, and areas like counter-unmanned systems, missile/air defense, AI/autonomous systems/quantum/machine learning, directed energy, cyber/electronic warfare, biotech, network integration/data fusion, and contested logistics. The stated goal includes promoting “the long-term integration of joint capabilities” between the two countries.
