Let just start with him being a regular podium guy first. At this point he’s not threat in either discipline.

I don’t know what you lot are smoking talking negatively about the guy when most of you probably struggle to climb a set of stairs.

I’m not implying that he hasn’t done well. But let’s be realistic, Prado is not a threat to win a championship in either SX or MX here in the states right now (maybe that will change next year). To say that he is now….is delusional IMO.

I also think it’s fair to say, that as of 2023, Pro Motocross is the premier series. We can argue talent all day long, but our guys in the AMA are just way more difficult to deal with than MXGP guys. I think it really just comes down to that and that alone for Jorge. I don’t think he got slower. I think he can ride just as fast as our top guys. He’s just flat out not as gnarly.

Current top guys here aren't from here. Everyone is chasing 18 and 96. 38 seems to be the closest but not currently there. Hopefully Eli can get in the mix but may need some time.

Sure, as long as you admit that the key reason for this is the existence of the Lawrence brothers and Haiden Deegan, and not any personal failure on Prado’s part. The exact same reason that Eli, RJ, Marchbanks and others will not win these titles anytime soon.

He’s got as good of a shot as anyone not named Lawrence I’d say.

You’re right and it’s gonna get a lot tuff’r once the other set of brothers get here full time.

Jorge has been an enigma. He has blazing speed and technique, but really isn't finishing where you'd expect him to be. I think a lot of us had high hopes and expectations from him. But such is the sport, there will always be someone faster. Jorge will likely improve, but I don't see him snagging a title in America with the current and future competitors he has to contend with.

This is absurd really. Prado finished 9th in SX this year WITHOUT Jett and Eli when down.

He is 4th behind the 450 rookie and a number of other riders out.

MX was always his best shot to win and lets be honest, the chances of BOTH Lawrences making enough mistakes to snatch a moto win are slim and an overall are next to zero.

"Not currently there".... big chance he never gets there... big chance he never wins another title.. pretty good chance be never wins another race... got the regs plus Davies (whos younger than him) in another yr to deal with in sx... then the regs and Lucas, and later Sasha (both younger) to deal w outdoors... uphill battle for the cringe lord and no amount of bed bugs saying he's fmotp is gonna help...

I was wondering how long this thread could go before devolving into a Deegan back and forth and it made if farther than I though. It was sly for him to say "38" and not his name but here we are.

Rip thread.

I didn't bring him up to make it about him, was just stating facts. Don't like his act but the kid can ride.

Prado impressed in supercross, he showed that he has all of the attributes once he gains experience to be a championship guy.

I was expecting a lot more in Motocross. Perhaps its true that Prado's point and shoot style doesn't bode well with the AMA tracks, but I still thought he would show more than this.

Maybe next year when he's #61 we will se the real Jorge Prado outdoors.

He’s on the bike he wanted to be on, and 70 points down from the top 2 and 16 points down from a rookie. Motocross is also his strong point. He finished 9th in sx last year. What about any of this is giving you the impression he has a shot at the title? Podium sure, maybe. Will still be tough at that with roczen, two Lawrence’s, Tomac, sexton, and the one that triggers everyone.

Triggering, I know. It’s pretty incredible prado came in with very comparable cockiness and hype. Cruised around, tried to quit a race by not qualifying, and he still gets more love. This outdoor he also was supposed to be the guy right? And don’t get me wrong, I’ve come around to prado and I do like him. Like him or not, deegan should absolutely be in the “title” conversation before prado if we’re basing off of what is actually going down vs your personal emotions.

The post about Jo being out for the entire summer with a broken collarbone and this one about George has me thinking.  Neither one of these guys will be a national champion here in the states because they don’t have enough dog in them.  They are both incredibly talented riders who can win when the cards fall in their favor but AMA championships are earned by riders on their bad days.  Overcoming adversity is not a strong suit for either of them.

Some collarbone breaks are different than others. Also may have injured the shoulder too.

Time will tell with Prado . He’s better than last year right? If he makes this same step again next year especially in sx where does that put him?

That’s why I called out the series and not the country. The AMA series, as a whole, just has crazier mfers than MXGP I believe. Jorge just hasn’t developed the right amount of crazy yet.

I never suggested that George hasn’t improved since last year.  He’s back with the team he’s been riding for since he was a kid.  He’s got another year of learning the tracks and competition under his belt.  He’s an incredibly talented rider.  It isn’t inconceivable that the stars will align to allow him to win races.  Unless he literally holeshots every race for an entire Supercross or outdoor season here in the US, I don’t think he’s mentally and physically strong enough to win an AMA championship indoors or out.  I’ll be happy to admit I’m wrong if I am, but I’m pretty confident in this statement based on what I’ve seen.

Outdoors has been meh, indoors was pretty dang legit:

I agree to see him fight up front every week we’ll have to see it first. But if he takes another leap indoors, he’ll be one of the fastest in the series. If he learns to get through lappers and ride in traffic better, he will be on the pointy side of the competition.

Outdoors is what prado is known for. He’s actually doing pretty well outdoors. I just don’t see him in a championship fight towards the end of sx. I think he will get a podium maybe and even that’s a big maybe. Prado has nothing in sx on the Lawrence’s, roczen, Tomac, and even deegan I’m betting. Sexton another who knows but he could go either way.

I do hope prado proves me wrong though. Would love someone besides a Lawrence winning lol.

From a points perspective, there is no advantage of a 28th place finish vs a DNF as they don't award points after 20th.

On Prado. 2 podiums at this point in the season is not what himself and many of us expected.

Last year, his quote on the US tracks was "motocross is motocross"

He has holeshot and led a race this year, so we've seen what he can do from the front.

There is a case to be made that his improvement in race results this year in motocross is directly proportional to his increased level of effort.

His mid season sx crash might have taken more off his edge than anyone is letting on. It was kind of ugly , surprised he was back so soon.
