Where are our guys? What is going on. We used to dominate. Sure we split time with sx, but we weren’t even 1st or 2nd in that last year.
What do you think it is? We have a few top guys out, but why is the USA field so shallow now for springing champion talent. We haven’t even been much of a factor in des nations in some time (it’s always b team this b team that). Guys come over and just smoke our guys on American tracks every year even for one off races. It’s not looking very likely an American wins a championship in mx or sx in the foreseeable future. I don’t even know who is going to be that next American guy at this point. I’m a Deegan fan, but let’s be real, long road…
Don’t get me wrong, I’m stoked to see these other guys come over and have success. I’m not hating on them at all, just a little disappointed we aren’t even really that competitive at this point.
USA is the Melting pot
Soft parenting, soft schools, soft culture. It's over.
Many national level kids dont race enough imo, they mainly race Spring a Ding, Lorettas, Ponca, Mini Os.
Too many old guys who aren't willing to send it that hard anymore... bam, Dylon, mookie, Craig, all used to be a lotttt faster but now are just too old to truly send it wfo like has to be done to actually win... /thread

The crazy thing is even in sx, if I had to put all my money on an American taking the championship in sx the next 3 years in 250 and 450 I would be very hesitant to take that bet. I straight up don’t think it’ll happen. Motocross with Coenens coming here too, absolutely no.
Yeah where’s the up and coming? That’s what I’m wondering why we’re lacking here. All those old guys are still the fastest we got really.
I mean Ken has lived in America longer than he lived in Germany so I am not sure why we keep saying things like this lol.
Dregs is the best we have to offer.
Yeah no for sure
I mean is USA cooked when the worlds best all come here. Seems like we are doing alright and that is what we want. I want to turn on SX/MX and see the best go at it. I dont really give a rip where they were born.
Three of our top four 450 guys are hurt right now, That’s a big skew in the stats.
He’s still a German rider first. Who does he ride for at des nations? What is the first thing in his description on his IG? That’s not a bad thing in any way.
Same logic do you also not see Chad reed as an Aussie rider? He rode here longer than there as well. Doesn’t make him less of an Aussie.
I agree but I do want an American rider on American soil in the battle for the championship. And we’re all far off honestly. I’m not saying our championships are less than, I’m saying our riders haven’t been dominate like they used to be.
Do you think chase and Tomac would have something for the Lawrence’s? I think the results would be similar. Maybe trading 3rd/4th with deegan with an occasional better result. They both also have not stayed off the ground for a season in how long. That’s an issue and these guys are having to ride over their limit to be competitive.
I mean Webb and Chase and Tomac all have won recently so I am not sure what the issue is? Jett? I mean, he is a freak.
I dont think it makes him less of an American either. He kids are certainly American
Euro Amateurs are coming here now so they got a head start before racing GP’s before coming over
Yeah man I mean of course he’s American. He isn’t American born. He didn’t get his base here riding in the US. He was already an mxgp champ before coming over. That’s the only point I’m making.
Dumb thread I guess haha. It’s no shade on non-American born riders. I love watching these guys. I’m just wondering where our big dogs are.
Pit Row
America is

I wasn’t aware there was a team USA in MX… i guess i’m the only one that thinks it’s cool to see the international riders come here and race the best riders in the best series.
our issue is 3 things
If I’m not mistaken, an American won the supercross title this year. Yes, Roczen.
@fakenews
It is very concerning that with the exception of Deegan, the rest of the 450 class is 30 plus seconds behind the leaders...or like today, over a minute behind and lapped up 10th place. The Tomac/Barcia/Webb generation is on the verge of retirement...then who do we have left?
The top 3 guys were 6-7 seconds a lap faster than guys like Webb, Barcia, RJ..etc.
https://promotocross.com/race/southwick-national/results/450/moto-2
Exactly.
They spend too much time at training camps just pounding out laps. They need to race more often, imo.
Every major moto series I can think of, anywhere in the world, has a junior/ amateur or development class that gets to race alongside the pros, except in the US. That has consequences imo.
Americans are still fast as heck, it varies from year to year, and there'll always be some solid 250 guys always coming through. So I don't want to overdo it because honestly the top guys in either series are very close. But if you want to really get down to a factor that's hurting the America born racers (aside from SX focus) in regard to losing their edge slightly - it's the tracks.
Y'know how certain things can happen in a sport, a major change that gets noticed by everyone and is highlighted as a fundamental shift going forward e.g moving from 2 strokes to 4 strokes. It was a huge deal, everyone noticed. You couldn't NOT notice it obviously.
I'd almost put the late 00s - early 2010s etc shift in AMA track prep in that range only far more subtle. The focus on making good racing tracks is understandable, everyone who rides them (especially coming from GP's) generally loves them. But that doesn't mean it hasn't come with consequences. Go watch the old races from Red Bud, Gatorback etc, see how different it is. Square edged bumps, blue groove, choppy, dusty, put a bit of water down and it's suddenly an ice rink etc. Riding that stuff, especially toward the latter stages of a 30 min moto is a skill in itself.
These days the tracks are largely uniform in their prep. In the old days going to Southwick was a mjaor headache for say Kevin Windham (along with dealing with Ricky obviously) and conversely a major boon for any rider that liked it, especially the local sand specialists. Kevin really didin't like the sand... If he were racing now it'd be far less of a concern because it's nothing like it once was. James Stewart etc has mentioned this himself a dozen times over the years.
US 250 class is especially toast
Long time dominance built determination for riders in other countries.
I was saying to my wife watching today, our mxon chances are slim.
the first is worse in Belgium and maybe even Australia ,
2, there seems to be no problem with money in american amatuers, they cant even park all the rigs at the races sometimes,
the last one is probably the main reason, to much practicing not enough racing,
