Not sure why more pro riders don't hit that place before Southwick rolls around.

Croon is good fun…until some moron in a lifted Jeep T bones you and distorts the frame of your motorbike, and sends you to the hospital. One of the scariest places I have ever ridden.

Yeah "scramble" areas as they call fully open sandpits in my state, are not the best. Way too many SXS. Everyone who can barely ride the sand is smashing around WFO.

It’s a little different when the large group of guys go on a Wednesday morning to work together. They establish a little loop that has some thought built into it. Not fully eliminating the chance of a quad getting into the mix somehow but it isn’t very likely.

I’d love to go watch a session at Croom one year then ride the hammered ass loop after they all leave.

Edit: my iPhone is “autocorrecting” so much weird shit lately. I’m not drunk at 9:00am.

I remember hearing that there is an area up here in Michigan that Nick Wey would take riders to for Southwick prep. If it's public land and people still use it I'd love to just set up out of the way and watch. Very likely it's an actual sand track though as we have no shortage of those.

Exactly.

I learned sand at a place very similar to that, back then it was all bikes,  and an occasional quad.  Now it's damn near unrideable because the trucks, jeeps, sxs exc all go every which way, making for dangerous conditions both in the sand, and just in general.  It's a shame.

I'm really lucky to have a somewhat unknown sandpit on public land just ten minutes from my house.

Jeeps are not aloud in the riding areas of Croom

  1. Permits/passes will be issued for two wheel cycles and 3 and 4 wheel ATVs. ATVs must meet the following requirements:
    a)  Wheel base of less than 55 inches.
    b)  Width of less than 45 inches.
    c)  Total vehicle weight less than 500 Ibs.
    d)  Travel on 3 or 4 low pressure tires.
    e)  Has a seat that is designed to be straddled by the operator.

My Bad, but 25 years ago there were definitely jeeps riding around at Croom. Saw it with my own eyes. Still completely chaotic, and most idiots there look like they wanna be Wheelie Boys.

I rode that little loop in the sand pit about 2 years ago during bike week.   Everyone I saw out there was riding in the same direction and only veered off the main part when there were other options (like a section that went up into the trees).   It was hammered for sure.... non stop deep whoops.

Side by Sides will be the cause of most of the closure of off-road areas in the USA. I personally cannot stand them! 🤬

Love rouge riverbar/sandpit moto tracks. We’ve got no public tracks in my county and when my place gets too wet to ride in the winter I sneak my skiddy down to our local riverbar and groom up our sand track, it’s honestly one of my favorite tracks in California! If there were Jeeps at Croom they were breaking all the rules. Sounds more like Ocala NF.
With a name like Old School Fool I'm inclined to believe the later.

I can’t believe you would take it upon yourself to destroy the natural landscape so you can ride your polluting motorbike and stink up the air that the rest of us have to breathe! Surprised no one has called CARB on you! 😆😆 just kidding bud that place looks awesome!

Hey Buddy, the jeeps may have been breaking the rules , and you may choose not to believe me, but they were there, and that is that. No worries about calling me a fool, I don’t take offense to name calling. Enjoy the rest of your day Sir.
