Anyone using a solar panel, plus a battery for camping at a race track?

Now days I prefer staying in a nearby hotel if my wife is going to the track. It sure does make it less attractive to be staying at the track when all you hear is generators all night. Is there anyone here camping overnight in the summer with a battery and a solar panel? It sure would be nice and better to sell it to your wife if the track were not so damn loud at night.  What is your setup?

I use a solar panel on mine for my two batteries but I still have to run the generator at some point in the evening for the kids which tops the charge off for the night. Just helps them stay as charged as possible throughout the day. The best part about the solar panels is when in storage it keeps the batteries charged so I don’t have to charge them before a trip.

Like above, I have the factory solar for our RV. It is only 500 watts, so only enough to trickle charge with no loads.

I installed a 2nd battery in parallel for more capacity. The 12v fridge takes the most juice. I can get 6-8hrs without needing to run the gennie.

You'll need a large solar setup and/or multiple batteries and an inverter for 110VAC items to be completely off-grid.

You’ll need an inverter, a solar charge controller, a fairly substantial battery bank, and then as many panels as you can possibly fit up on your roof.

Edit: You also want to connect your panels in a series, not in parallel.

I can run everything on our race trailer except AC for an extended time from the battery and 2 100 watt solar panels.  I’m using a LiFeP04 battery. It’s a 300 amp hour. That seems the be the way off grid is going with batteries. I have a Vitcron solar charger controller and a 3000 watt inverter.

I just recently bought a 2K power station and a couple panels. I am amazed at how much use I get out of them camping etc. Last weekend I tent camped with a small swamp cooler blowing into the tent all weekend LoL. During the day the panels draw a net positive, and only used like 25% over night of the batter cap.

Similar in my van.
I have a DC-DC charger, which is also a solar controller. And two 250ah Lithium batteries (that just fit under the pax seat)
Victron 240v charger. (All the chargers need to be compatible with the battery type - Lithium in my case)

I plug the van in at home some hours before I leave - this ensures the fridge is cold, and batteries are charged. Driving to the track the batteries are kept full by solar/Alternator - DC/DC charger. So when I arrive, usually Friday nigh,  the batteries are full the fridge is cold.

Easily works all weekend without starting. I’m only useing the fridge, lights and charging phones etc.

We just sold the toy hauler and ditched camping all together. One can get a lot of hotel rooms for the price of a toy hauler and tow rig. Also, you don’t have to clean shit and breakfast is always ready to go.

The van in my profile photo has 300w solar and 2000w inverter with alternator charging and 200ah lithium batteries. I run a pressure washer, lights, power tools and everything else I need over a race weekend even if its cloudy. I too cant stand sleeping at the races when im sandwiched between two people running generators 24 hours a day.

You guys recommend a jackery type battery pack or a duel battery set up for my van?

My Grech Strada Ion camper has 1200 amp hrs of lithionics and solar, I never need a generator, maybe if I boondock more than a week.

I bought a solar kit from harbor freight, connects to my single 12v house battery in my van. Can go a whole weekend without generator as long as I’m just using lights, radio, and outlets. It wouldn’t keep up with my TV.

I put my solar on the back burner. Modern batteries charge so fast (1500 watts) Run a small generator for 30 minutes equals 8 hours of sun. Need to run my generator once a day for 24 hrs of power

Solar and Batteries is a good option for running about everything except for air conditioning its just too much power draw, I have a small inverter generator and a couple large deep cycle batteries in our camper and our fridge runs on propane which is the best setup I don't know why they are moving all these camper fridges to 12v.

Annoying thing about generators is that no matter how much you spend and quite yours is you are at the mercy of your neighbors.

I enjoy the hotel route too. The kids and wife like staying at the track though, so we rarely do hotel unless it’s far and don’t want to drive the RV.

RV is such a hassle just for a single weekend, doesn’t seem worth it unless it’s mini o’s, Loretta’s, etc.

When it’s just me and my son, we take the Motovan and stay in that
