Sorry if this has been brought up, but I was listening to PulpMX and Steve Matthes and Michael Lindsey were saying that Feld will be making changes that would likely have a negative impact on photog/video and other media members.
They didn’t go into too much detail, but mentioned that there could be some, who have worked in the industry for quite some time, out of jobs due to a money grab by Feld wanting exclusive rights to sell all the media themselves. They would basically own everything.
This seems fu*ked up on many levels.

How do you perceive the changes will be negative? ML said it is uncertain what will happen but he fears some long time photographers might be out.
Unless you have more information?
I heard about this, bad move all around
That doesnt sound like feld!
I think Feld is trying to get rid of some of the “journalists” that have fewer followers/subscribers than the average fan. I doubt they boot out the legit journalists and photographers.
However it was interesting to hear that Feld wants to own all of their content they create at the stadium. That will certainly be a step backwards for fan entertainment. Hopefully it doesn’t change the amount of Press Day videos and interviews we get because I look forward to those every week.

Damn lawyers…
What do major stick and ball sports and other types of racing do? Legitimate question as I have no idea. But do they let people with YouTube channels cover the event from the floor?
People will still do it just their own way
stand-up family. for the love of money.....

The jury rejected Karen Feld's $110 million claim that her brother, circus CEO Kenneth Feld, had his security guards assault her at a memorial service for their late aunt. They also rejected Kenneth Feld's counterclaim that his sister trespassed at the 2007 shiva by shouting anti-Semitic obscenities that disrupted the service.
Other sports credential journalists. There's a bar to entry beyond owning a camera. There's specific rules about the content they put out, length of video clips, when they are released, etc. Most teams and leagues have their own media departments and put out their own content but also have plenty of credentialed media members there covering the games and putting out content. Think of a big play at the end of a game. During the broadcast it will be the broadcast showing their replays of it. After the fact there will be ton of different angels from wherever the media guys took their video from.
There's room for feld to button things up, they've given credentials to people who have literally zero media presence and are basically just fans on vacation, but they can't go too far with it before fans and sponsors are going to push back. You can't tell a sponsor pay us for the banner, pay us to get your name on TV, pay they rider to use your product, now also pay us for the photo of that rider so you can put an ad together. The teams and sponsors stand to lose as much as anyone with these changes and it'll be up to them to make sure feld doesn't go too far. They don't give a care at all what fans think.
Smart way to do business.
It’s their show. Why should just anyone be able to monetize their show?
Most sports see it as a rising tide lifting all boats. They want the coverage. Most sports also don't depend on advertisers that are promoting products used to play the actual sport, so feld has even more reason to allow access if they want to keep their sponsors happy.
That’s a good point, as long you emphasize the “show” part. There’s an argument to be made that the outcome of a sporting event could be considered news, and fair use of images, etc might be allowed for third parties. But I’m no lawyer so I could be completely wrong.
We all have heard the voiceover disclaimer at the end of stick and ball broadcasts where the league claims the exclusive rights to the broadcast. But they let the sports media do their thing because it helps promote the sport and build viewership. Feld will obviously do the same with established moto media. However, this sport is still relatively tiny and I think they should continue to allow the smaller outlets and “influencers” to cover the sport and promote to their audiences too.
Let them do it..
Going to be a massive and i mean massive help to the competitors
If Feld wants to shoot themselves in the foot in the media game... let them do it.. I personally only see it ending badly for them.. all based on "greed" which is the bane of my existence with these fucking corporations.
Putting My "TinFoil hat on"
If they want to take over all the media stuff, that means they plan on trying to use A.I. to generate user content from the events for their marketing. Then try to sell that to the teams/riders for their media presence. "TinFoil hat off"
They want all the media to themselves... trying to keep the smaller news sources out... for example... if they keep people like vital, swap, hopper, etc out, then the consumer is forced to view coverage only through feld owned sources.... which are terrible... I'd much rather see honest analysis from Lewis, or ML, or hopper, than the feld media crew...
The bigger problem is... if they go to feld only media... they will only push their pwn bullchit narratives, and honest open journalis will simply be gone... and of course the peopl who make a living promoting sx and mx by attending the events, won't be making a living anymore...
It's almost as if Feld is trying to devalue that one product (SMX) in their portfolio, or perhaps show one of their products (SMX) generates a loss of revenue to get a tax break on the other ventures/promotions.
The reason i say this is the overall lack of cross promotion with their other promotions, and lack of advertisement in general. Now they're going to intentionally control and bottleneck their own promotion via a media move like this? Just seems counter intuitive to getting your promotion more exposure.
Isn’t the outcome of a sporting event still part of the show?
I would assume anyone who puts in the effort to “report” on the outcome of a sporting event is, at the end of the day, trying to monetize that reporting.
Why the fuck does the world need another fuckface “reporting” on the outcome of anything when I can see with my own two fucking eyes what the outcome was?
Why?
Why?? You seriously don't know??? Geezusss... cause we live in fn america... where we have veryyyy few actual rights, but freedom of speech is one of them... you a commy or something?? Why u against freedom of speech??? Why you sticking up for billionaires that you dont know, nor ever will???
Congrats on dumbest post of the day though bruh... u certainly crushed it... 🤣
Pit Row
Just wait until Feld announces ‘Team Charters’ (like NASCAR). It’s coming sooner than later, imo.
It’s a way for them to make more money. They want to only allow photographers on their own payroll to be able to take photos and videos from the floor. Then they (Feld, not the photographers) can sell the photos/videos for ads, content, etc. It’s not good for anyone other than Feld and is just another example of a company making things worse for everyone, just so they can increase their own profit a little.
Yet here you are actively participating in a message board dedicated to discussing the sport......
I doubt it. Too easy for someone else to come in and just start another sx series. AMA sanctioning would be nice mostly for traditions sake but even that isn't necessary. It would take less than 5 riders leaving to break feld's grip. Lawrence brothers and Deegan and a few others say F this we're out and everyone follows to whatever they create.
Would not be good for the sport, but it's doable and prevents feld from going too crazy.
Do you also prefer state media? 🤔
Constant chatter about “grow the sport.” Then when the promoter try’s to make it more professional, what sounds limiting the amount of media, people get pissed. There is zero chance of “growing the sport” when the core fan base is never happy.
lol, legit journalist…what qualifications are required to be a legit moto journalist??
I don’t like the Charter system, either. Feld would likely offer the top guys their own charters to buy their cooperation. The guys who were initially and essentially gifted charters (plural) by NASCAR have made out like bandits when they sell them. Lawrence and Deegan don’t have the career length left to suffer through starting a new series. I suspect Red Bull and Monster would have some strong say in the matter.
Well then why don't you start up your own SX series and put FELD out of business.
And what are they going to offer Deegan and the Lawrences to switch?
Idk how aus and WSX work, but mxgp makes a company pay to use video footage of the event for mx2 and mxgp. As a sponsor of a few different mxgp teams, I cannot use video footage from an mxgp round unless I pay infront for video access. I can use photos and photos/video of emx teams.
They don't have to offer them anything if the alternative is "give us a bunch of money for a team charter"
Not really the point though.... Nascar owned enough of the tracks to have a monopoly and could dictate terms. Feld doesn't have that same kind of control and there's limits to how far they can push. There's nothing they're doing that can't be replicated.
I think a legit journalist is someone that actually works for media outlet. Not some dork who just wants to create click bait or stuff that undermines the progress of the sport for their own benefit.
It’s going to be difficult to draw a line for videographers/photographers. Guys like Tom Journet who work for Racer X and the Lawrence’s I would consider “legit”. Guys like Slowie and Cooksey would fall under the category of “not legit”. Pretty sure they’re already not allowed, but people of that nature is who I think they would like to get rid of.
