Great List! It goes good with my Northstar Boots and Lancer Leathers. First bike 1972 CT2 175cc Yamaha, rode it on the street for two months then started racing it. Had to slide my hands off the grips after a moto because I couldn't open them up. " title="Laughing">

We called them strawberries, on both thumbs and they did not heal before next weekend.
We later discovered throttle donuts, and they helped alot!

I still have my Yamathumb scar from the 70's! it would bleed so bad that after a race there would be a trail of dried blood down my arm.

Scott face masks, Pacifico face masks, Hallman boots, anybody drill out their fork caps and make your own "air forks"? Petty "mudders", hex grips, snail pipes, Bel-Ray dogammit. Thanks for the list TK, good shtuff.

How about guys who raced without visors referred to as “squids”.

Great list! Awesome memories!! My dad was pissed when he saw me welding new mounts on the TM 125 to "lay down" my rear shocks for supposedly more travel.

I can help out with:

"20. You’ve camped at both Mount Morris and Unadilla and lived to tell of it."

Camping at Unadilla featured all night binge drinking punctuated by the setting fire to various outhouses and the infamous "pond". Fireworks and fires seemed to be the most popular all night activities.

Sliding down slopes of mud was another favorite. Plenty of fist fights kept things interesting.

Remember the Fox Heat Beater from the early 80's? The terry cloth bib with pockets for ice did well keeping you cool, but towards the end of the moto your seat would be slippery. Later on someone develoved one with refreezable packs. Hadn't seen one in a long time.

These days the motos are so short the ice would barely melt. ; )

i had completely forgot i went the the suzuki school in carlsbad...wayne boyer was the instructor i think...troy blake was in the class too.

I STILL wear my open face Arai MXC with a Scott face mask. I know, not safe.

What about JT Racing gear? Everyone that was a local or national pro wanted to be sponsored by them, well maybe not Mike Bell (lol). I even had a pair of JT Racing mechanic's overalls.

I had my Chuck Sun gear, pants and jersey. Don't know how long he made gear (couldn't have been too long), but I raced in the Pacific Northwest (WA) and he was big up here (Chuck Sun jump at Washougal). When his product first came out he sponsored a couple guys in my area and I was one of them. I seriously think that I was the only guy at many races with chuck Sun gear. I was also sponsored by Griffin Helmets. They sent me five helmets (two open face and three full face). They were not known for their motocross style helmets (not sure if they ever have been), but they made a run at the market in the 80's. Once again, I was the only guy on the line wearing a Griffin!

In Oz we had Tycon padded riding shirts that were just long sleeve T shirts with foam sewin into the chest and elbow's, fantastic until they got wet. First real bike was my silver 74 model XR75, wish I still had that bike.
