I know I will get a lot of flak, but its looking like Deegan is the best we have.  Discuss, civily, please.

450 class? I guess Tomac or Sexton. 250 class is undoubtedly Deegan.

Assuming everyone is healthy? Tomac-450 and Deegan-250.

If you set aside Sexton's time at Kawi then I'd say he is hands down the fastest American. He's just too inconsistent to choose as the "best."

Deegan may turn out to be your best rider, but not sure how you can declare that when he hasn’t even competed in the premier class yet?

Overall I’d say Tomac, but you could argue Sexton before this year.
Interesting to note that the last five East SX championships have been won by non-Americans. Other than Deegan the up and comers don’t fill you with much confidence.

I don’t even like Webb and it’s crazy he’s not in this discussion.

You make valid points.  Deegan is the best we've got right now.
As Rick Johnson said recently (on Gypsy) America is at a low water mark right now for elite riders.  Other countries are beating us with an ease we've not seen since Bayle or Reed.  Maybe ever.

We have no McGraths, Carmichaels, Villopotos or even Dungeys on the horizon, as far as I can tell.

The unspoken truth we all hate to state is our amateur system is broken. We don't have many fast pro 450 riders compared to Europe. The USA's population, wealth, and access to riding areas dwarf other nations, yet in our indoor premier championship the top two were not born here. As said earlier, regional 250 champs are often foreign born. Our amateur system is built to separate parents from dollars, not build winners. And the training facilities do not seem to be a positive. Kids need gate drops, not more money spent on the bikes, and they need to get their ass kicked too. They need to know how to chase success, work hard, pass....

I'm pretty sure I speak for most when I say Haiden Deegan, and you can extend that well past America to include those third world countries like France, Belgium, Australia and the Netherlands. Does Australia even have running water and paved roadways?

Yes, could be time for our American friends to start looking at their systems. I note DB and Matthes also said Star are looking to sign a young Australian - in Australia -  who's still only 14 and on superminis...

They know where to look.

Most who saw RV or Dungey coming up as amateurs, probably wouldn't have thought they'd be as good as they ended up being.  RV played second fiddle to Alessi in the amateurs, and Dungey was good but not great. Whoever pulled Dungey up and out of the amateurs needs a raise, but I guarantee you that there are some diamonds in the rough like RV and Dungey that will light up when they go pro.

Take away the Lawrence brothers, and it looks entirely different.  We just got smacked with two brothers that happen to be next level elite riders, with one being generational.  Add to that an aging 450 class and 250 guys who haven't made the successful jump to the 450 class, and I can see why Ricky Johnson is saying what he's saying, but I don't think it is as dire as some people are making it out to be.

I don't think it's crazy at all. He's not won a single proper race this season and is a non-entity outdoors...and is also not as fast as Eli or Chase.

I know what you meant, but there's literally two Villopotos on the horizon, and I think Gage might be a decent replacement for his dad if he decides to stick with racing (short + redhead = potential).

Deegan is the best we have. Unless Tomac can get back to his early season speed.

It ain’t looking good for US born racers, other than Deegan. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, the current crop of riders in the 250 class is not good. I can’t think of anyone who is capable of battling for future top 5’s in the 450s other than Deegan and Davies.

ummm...battling for only a top 5 position does not make ANYONE the best US rider we have, LOL.
