Tore my ACL last January on a dual sport ride and had surgery in March of last year. Wasn't able to get back after it until September and I'm just now really pushing the bike harder and riding more technical stuff again. I feel your pain though. Went back to the spot it happened for the first time yesterday and it was a little surreal. My memory of that specific spot even with the trauma involved was wildly accurate. Your recovery sounds like it should be fairly short at least and you're almost halfway through it! Hope you're doing well!
Going in for meniscus surgery tomorrow, hopefully it is a short recovery.
What is your knee doing? Pain? Locking up? Moving around?
Asking for a friend who doesn't want to go to the doctor.
Yes, all of those. Probably should get a replacement, but I don't want to lose the summer.

Been off the bike since November
3 cracks in my pelvis but nothing displaced, just let it heal
Going riding tomorrow!
Had total ankle reconstruction a year ago, tomorrow. That was the REAL ringer. Damn…REAL pain…beware the term “micro-fractures”…the miraculous process where they drill a bunch of tiny holes in the bone and this often is combined with stem-cell therapy…which is nice.
Oh, and that was accompanied by bi-lateral ligament repair and re-attach …and the tendon they stole from my big toe to replace the missing one at the bottom of my foot…yup…this was the singular most painful “work” I’ve had done…ever (I’ve had multiple knee surgeries, ACL repairs, meniscus repairs, allografts & then there’s shoulder reconstruction, hand surgery, precious ankle repairs)…yup, the “2025 Ankle Rebuild” takes the cake when it comes to “pain”. A year later & there’s still some pain. It’s just how ankles go.
Oh, and…since getting the ankle done…
I’ve had both knees replaced. Left on October 30th/Right on December 18th. Again…not even as painful as that damn ankle! 🤣
So, this entire time…from the ankle thru both knees…I’ve leaned into PT and have fought for my mobility. Yup, it’s a fight. And…it’s a good & worthy fight. Also, I have the luxury of being able to take all the time needed for all the PT and riding the living shit outta my eMTBs and whatnot.
About “being laid up and not being able to ride”: during the 2024 Baja 1000 I had to push our bike up a sandy hill in the middle of the night…when our electrical system took a shit…that was what caused the “final destruction” of my left ankle and my left knee, too. Since then, I’ve only once ridden my ADV to the airport…that was about a month after the 1000 in December of ‘24. That’s the last time I rode.
So, I feel ya.
I get back on the bike, which will be my RM125…in May.
I’m stoked.
Mid January I had a bulging L4 that really jacked up my right leg with sciatica/nerve pain. In the past I’ve had 7 surgeries of various things and not a single surgery equated to the nerve pain from the L4 and to boot I don’t know what I did to make it bulge. Nerve pain just crept in many hours after unloading my bike. I’ve ridden two times since then and by chance I had some family come in town and with Pala being closed last few Fridays, has given me more recovery time off the bike. May get on it this weekend and if not definitely next with the hopes of getting back to my weekly riding schedule. Heal up dudes and let’s get back out there. Braap!
I survived! Gonna chill and watch SX tomorrow.
Get that leg as high as you can…comfortably…and…
Good Luck!
I know that very feeling.
Going on almost 3 years now. 2 knee replacements same knee, exactly 1 year and 2 days apart. First one failed and the had to put this monstrosity in which is now failing and I and about to have a “hinged” version put in. At least they’re telling me this one will be full proof and in about 10 months I’ll be able to ride again.
How are they failing? Bone not taking the implants or is there something with the hardware?
Pretty sore today.
Not laid up, but laid back doing a tour of NZ 😁
