Name a rider in his prime and a track/venue where no one else would have had a chance.

I start.. Kenny at Unadilla

Agree on this.  I was there one year where the track was rutted to hell and later in the day the ruts hardened up and were all hooked and nasty.  Kenny never took a foot off his pegs and just made the whole thing flow.  It was one of the most amazing rides I’ve ever seen.

RV is tied for 16th on the all time win list at Washougal. He only has 1 win.

Yeah, but what a win👍

That was a long time ago. Coenen will smoke him with ease this year.

As someone who raced there many moons ago, I would have to say Magoo at Sandy Oaks/Keithsburg.

You would have to see it to believe it! 😗

Donnie’s last race ever was in Sweden, the final GP of the 250 World championship in ’82. He won both motos with ease. Crashed hard on a practise track in Germany just a few days after this and his career was sadly over.

Wierd RV and Stewart didnt seem to have as many super stand outs to me, they had a couple bad tracks (rv at washougal), but they were a threat everywhere, but nowhere specific.

RV was unreal at Budds

That is true, he was pretty dominant there. And that mxon there was legendary

Tomac at Hangtown 2015.  Went 1-1.  Won second moto by 90 seconds over Dungey.

I read it as Donnie Schmidt 1995

I'm shocked at the glaring omission.

RC never lost a moto at Millville, and lapped the entire field in the mud. This is the only appropriate answer to this question.

Back in the day Herlings was unstoppable at Valkenswaard, if my memory serves me correctly he only lost there in 2017 when he was going off a hand injury. It was his 1st year in the MXGP class.

I dunno why you’re getting downvoted. You’ve gotta remember Herlings is 12 years older than Coenen, he’s had some horrendous injuries, he’s riding a completely different bike. I believe De Wolfe is a better sand rider than Coenen when he’s fully fit.

People said exactly the same thing about Prado in 2024 (Prado also won the first sand race of the year). Then Herlings uncorked alien mode running 5-6 seconds faster a lap out of nowhere in the last couple of minutes. I'd never beat against Herlings there, even though Lucas is very good.

Herlings also crashed mid moto and was like half 15-20 seconds behind Prado. Absolute ridiculous.

Not sure you understand the thread, no offense. The guy who was his greatest competition, Dunge, is the winniest rider at Washougal. So you really could argue Dunge at Shougal.

For me Roczen at Unadilla

No offense taken and I understand it. I went off the rails a bit thinking of great races overall. Apologies.

Herlings in Lierop (where he lapped till second)! The last two meetings he got beaten by Kay de Wolf but that says more about de Wolf then about Herlings who is getting smarter in those off season races.

I forget which sand track, but wasn’t there one where Jeffrey won on for 10 years straight or so, maybe it’s Lierop. I’m thinking peak Jeffrey from 2010-2018

True, on 125's he took second in one moto. I was talking premier class, but I didn't say that, so you are right to correct me.
