I watched that start again at Birmingham and he definitely hit that tuff block hard with his foot. No way we can tell if it hurt him, though. I do know when I hit my 'bad knee' or 'bad foot', it does hurt and gets in your head some. It can slow you down for a while. Looks like a possibility for sure.
Kenny could not beat Eli before this moment, as far as I remember. And now, all of a sudden, Eli can't keep up with him. And I don't think Tomac had been this far off in qualifying all year, as he did in Detroit.

He seemed annoyed by big Lews question on St Louis press day. “ I heard you found something in the bike”, “if I did I wouldn’t tell you guys”.
The earlier part of the season where he’s doing well and happy seem to be replaced by stressed and upset about all the questions about what’s wrong.
He didn't look great in the Press Day ride video. I'm sure they are just out there messing around but zero aggression.
