His race craft is really really low. If Webb is a 10 on race craft and setting up passes and blocking passes, Jo is a 1.

Wow he’s blown so many pass attempts this year it’s crazy.

His riding has been incredible and he’s so likeable but he has to work on passes and race IQ big time.

He just keeps trying to make aggressive passes and isn’t good at it.

He really needs to work on his race craft. Does he not have as much race experience as the others? I’m trying to figure out why it is so bad.

I think it stems from his lack of passion for the sport. If you listen to any of his interviews, (check out the 100 hour video), he talks about how he doesn't really like riding. His dad just made him do it, and he happened to be good.

As a result, I think he lacks the intuition for racing. Guys like Deegan, eat, sleep, breathe moto. They watched the races for fun as a kid (so they know how to handle tight SX battles). They're constantly looking to ride, and have that extra bit of IQ on how to maneuver the bike in those tight racing situations, unlike someone like Jo who probably never watches races, besides his own.

It doesn't matter for MX, where there's so much room to move around, but it holds back Jo in SX (despite the fact he has talent... and looked better than Davies and Hammaker tonight).

His Davies let by could be a demo video for lappers on how to move out of the way.

Jo broke his neck in November and was on the podium in February. He’s putting more into this than talent.

dont think that is what he meant.

if the guy doesnt study and watch film, he may not be as natural in certain situations.... however, in this case i think it's more due to the fact that he just isn't an aggressive guy

This!

Some people have one or all of the following.

- Speed

- Aggression (for want of a better word)

- Racecraft

I think Jo has speed.

How much racing with fast and equal guys did he have coming up? It seems he may have been a facility rider rather than a race-meeting rider...

This topic is total racism.

I think Jo is a better moto rider than a sx rider.. plus i don’t think he is going to push his limits.

Jo is too nice, he had 2nd for the taking last night but he did not force the position.  Be more aggressive next time Jo.

He just keeps trying to make aggressive passes and isn’t good at it.

Remember how bad Dunge was at being aggressive, too? He would take forever to get around a guy he was clearly faster than. 2-3 laps just getting around one guy. Then one year he got really aggressive but it just didn't work. He wasnt good at it and it kinda made him worse.

Imo, he’s just tentative to pass, period. He had so many opportunities to pass Deegan in the nats, that if he would’ve taken (just a few of) them, he could’ve won the whole thing. Him and his “coach” need to go back and watch tapes and have some hard conversations.

The title of this thread kinda made my heart drop. I thought he passed away in some freak accident or something.

"Angry Dunge!" I knew we had a nickname for it and I couldn't remember what it was. Evil Dunge? Bad Dunge? Angry Dunge!

Damn, the guy was involved in great racing for the entire 250 main.

He tried to make a last ditch pass 3 corners before the finish, lost momentum, then slid the back end around in the next corner when he lost traction and you guys act like he can't ride.

I guess Davies has no race craft because he pretty much let deegan by, and the same for tomac who could not get around prado for a couple laps.

Bro it’s not just last night.

Every major pass attempt he’s made this season has ended up costing him massively.

Time time Jo is a very methodical rider it seems. He takes his time to size up his pass and takes a stab at it. If the pass fails he seem to take 2 step back. I was really surprised when he passed Davies and just let him under him after the whoops. Maybe Davies takes him down but dam fight for it.

I wasn’t able to watch the race until the replay today and I agree that Jo is in need of race craft. Especially knowing how and when to pass.

I’m baffled by Joe. Lots of speed sometimes, but missing something. Maybe heart, but coming back from such a bad injury takes heart. Baffling
