All Japan MX Nationals start this weekend. They used to live stream them on YouTube. They do the rider intros before the races and if you're savvy and have a quick eye, you might catch a glimpse into the future.

Lots of pictures are already floating around of the new generation KTM.

Yes!  I remember back in the day waiting for that spring issue of Dirt Rider where they would have pictures of all the bikes at the Japan Nationals and we could look straight into the future.

Looks like a year of more changes than we have seen for a long time.

I just looked at the entry list and there's definitely some interesting ones that I would keep my eye on.

Yuki OKURA #1 on Honda Dream Racing Bell Honda CRF 450 (We probably have already seen a glimpse of this bike in MXGP)

Atsuki UCHIDA #97 on Team Kawasaki R&D Kawasaki KX450SR

Yuta IKEGAYA #793 and Yuto SUZUKI #20 on Team SSC Suzuki RMZ 450 (Very interesting considering Ken Roczen mentioned HEP Suzuki had a test rider and Suzuki Japan representatives have been in the US recently)

I’m hearing the new Kawi 450 is gonna have KYB, and then I’m sure the 250 to follow soon after

Anyone know if the 250 crf 2027 will be all new as the 450 ?

Because i was surprised to see Valerio Lata riding the actual gen 2025/2026 crf at the MXGP opener !

I thought he would be too on the prototype such as Herlings and Vialle

The 450 is almost always a year ahead of the 250 for all brands.

If Zook drops a new 450, I might sell all my stuff for one 😂

I believe kawasaki has often used Kyb on one bike and Showa on the other and they’ll flip flopped them every so often. I think I read somewhere it’s so they stay familiar with updates from each brand.

I’m not cut out for 450’s although, I have a 24 KX450 in the garage and like it.  450’s are a bit much and wear me out quick.  Still always  interesting to see what comes out new.  I’m not a Suzuki guy but an electric start yellow bike would sure enough be interesting.

I’m holding out for a new 250!………..Ducati or Beta.  Kinda leaning 2027 Beta 250RX.  My wife’s doctor races and has factory works Desmoto 450.  He’s  had it for about 3 weeks now.  He says the Ducati is best he’s ever ridden.  He told me straight up, you have a Beta, get a 250 Ducati when they come out you won’t be sorry.

I doubt they will update the 250 as well that was a rare thing to see two new models in the same year when they did it in 2025. Will likely be the following year like normal

At the risk of sounding like an old fart; the 1980’s were wild for bike development. At no stage in moto history have bikes changed so much between years.
2027, cool to see the new models, but it’s a bit meh, with maybe Suzuki being the exception.

My prediction is, you could buy any model, or even any model made since about 2014: get the suspension set up to suit you, a remap if the delivery doesn’t suit, and if you can ride good enough, say as good as Ken, you could run up front at any event.

It’s not the ‘70’s anymore. All improvements are incremental. And often fiddling around the edges robbing Peter to pay Paul. Less stability/better turning. Then back a few models later. Less power with better delivery…..

Not 450 related but supposedly the YZ250f is getting a new engine for 2027. I assume it will also get the chassis changes the 450 got for 2026. I would think that means no YZ450 changes for 2027 especially since 2026 was updated.

Yes, I expect minor refinements on the Yamaha 450.  It is such a good bike.  I think they went forward on chassis and backward on intake....but a lot of that was for sound restrictions.

Here’s the 450 the team Kawi R & D rider is on this weekend.  Looks the same though the swing arm looks different.  Could be changes to the frame and engine that aren’t obvious and airbox/intake changes that might be visible on the other side of the bike.

Someone will have to double check, but I believe I see some changes on the head tube. The square piece just above the fuel tank.

Any pics of the Suzuki?

Speculation based on the past of Honda Motocross. The 2027 CRF450 Will be in the current configuration with changes to power, suspension and maybe BNG. The current bike came out in 2025. I am betting Kawasaki to be the same.

KTM is going through a lot of changes under new ownership. Its said that the new design will be less angular and more traditional to the Japanese bikes.

Suzuki, its almost as if they should continue with the 2018 and refine it. Further. If it works, don't mess with it.

God that would be stupid since they just switched the 250 to showas. I honestly want to try the new 250 and 450 woth a good set up kyb suspension

80-2004 was crazy with development. Every year you could make an argument that it was necessary to buy a brand new because they were so much better every year or to jump to a new brand the next year cause the bike was so much better then the rest all of a sudden. From 05 on outside of the jump to efi its been all refinements more or less.

Kawi has plans for updates in 27 for sure. Obviously plans can change.

Kawi has historically rotated suspension brands every so often on the 250/450.

Yuta Ikegaya’s IG had a few pictures but conveniently, none showing if it still had a kickstarter. It sure looks a lot like the current model. One interesting thing I did notice is that the front brake master cylinder is different as well as the front brake line routing. Very similar to what comes on the production CRF 450 and KX 450.
