One of my wife’s doctors races. He’s pretty much be a Honda guy last few years. We were at his office about a week ago today. Said he’d had is factory works edition Desmoto 450 for about 3 weeks. He was freakin ecstatic about it. He said 10 pounds lighter than his Honda, probably 10 more HP. He said best handing bike he’d ever been on, fast and easy to ride. I don’t have a clue what actual specs are. I’d bet weight wise it probably is 10 pounds lighter than Honda.
I mentioned holding out for 2027 4 stroke Beta 250 RX, he said you have a two stroke Beta. Get a 250 Ducati when they come out, you won’t be sorry.
Ducati is a little pricey, but would be a cool ride……..so would the Beta.

"He said 10 pounds lighter than his Honda, probably 10 more HP."
The doctor should consult a doctor.
Mr Ducati is that you?
They must have their doctorate in psychology.
Yeah 10 HP might be tick much lol. I think Ducati states 229 dry without fuel. I think Honda is 249 with fuel. Be interesting to see on the scales what it really weighs wet. I’d guess it to be the lightest of all the 450’s. I don’t remember from shootouts, but don’t think the factory works Ducati was tested. My 24 KX450 needs to go on a diet!………so does the owner.

Doctors buying Ducatis holds true for dirt bikes too, huh…
Im gonna say one thing. I fully expect the desmo 250f to be a beast. That desmo valve train loves high rpm. If they can get good bottom and early midrange with the typical top end a desmo gets it could be one of the best 250fs.
According to Vital, 2lb and 3hp difference.

And every single test rider preferred the Honda to the Ducati.
That's a nice bike you bought your wife's doctor. 😉
Hes drunk, 10lbs without fuel maybe
Ducati has a 1.9 gallon tank, 6lbs per gallon or 12 lbs. Ducati claims 231lbs no fuel, so 243lbs
Honda claims 249lbs ready to ride
Try again with his pretentious ass, Ducati guys are always full of s**t.
Not a single one of those are the factory edition of the Desmo for what it’s worth…
Best I can tell the factory edition Desmoto is only a couple pounds lighter than std.
I didn’t realize the Triumph 450 was as light as it is, 235 wet per vital shootout if I read right.
Pretty sure I bought the Honda he raced last year too!
Those 10 less pounds and those 10 more horse power aren't going to make him any faster.....
1 tooth up in the rear
First, let's stay positive. Doctors riding dirt bikes is great for our sport even if they get their facts wrong! However, please note the Ducati factory edition has not had a full magazine test at this point. While it will not change the bottom line, I would venture to say it will be a few pounds lighter and possibly a few more horsepower. Regardless, the Honda is a safer bet for the immediate future.
Eh…

Nice to see a doctor who likes the sport. I went to see one when I was about 18 when I was having trouble with a knee after a car crash, and he asked if I did any sports? When I replied "motocross", he replied snottily "that's not a sport, that's an imposition on society..". Pompous arsehole 🙄
Please note I am pro Ducati and actually picked up one of the first units in America. All manufactures have glitch's including Honda's and Ducati's (I have recall notices on my Ducati).
Pit Row
According to Ducati, with the Akra pipe and the "factory" clamps, it should be about 4 pounds lighter, and you can tinker with the ECU if you know what you're doing...
I'd still go with a Honda.
Well, I hope this doctor is comfortable with the possibility that he may never finish an entire race ever again. Even after decades of building street bikes, Ducatis are still pretty much the biggest piles of shit out there. Fast, beautiful piles of shit. It's hard to imagine that Ducati suddenly became magically competent at building reliable motorcycles, especially one that will suffer the abuse typically suffered by motocross bikes.
What Ducatis are referring to that are piles of unreliable shit?
The Googles. Try it, you'll like it.
In addition to list after list after list and survey after survey showing Ducatis are among the least reliable motorcycles on the planet, I have friends who just had to have the "Ducati experience" and regretted it almost immediately. For example, back in 2016 I purchased a new Yamaha R1M and a friend bought a new 1299 Panigale. His bike had to be retrieved from the side of the road due to mechanical breakdowns at least 4 times (that I know of) in the first year of ownership. I'm 10 years into the R1 and haven't had a single issue. Zero. It's not just Ducati either. There's something about Italian motor vehicles that makes them unreliable. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa, Maserati, Fiat, Aprilia, etc. - all unreliable. I thought this was common knowledge.
It is if you are over 35.
Just like never buy anything Brit with Lucas electrics. But the youngsters on here don't have experience with 50s-70s Brit stuff nor most anything Italian. When the Japanese bikes started landing in the US in the late 60s and early 70s, it totally changed what we knew about product quality. Oh, and their cars didn't suck either. 70s US autos were likely the worst ever produced by Detroit. Truly junk.
I've always wanted a Duc, but the maintenance nightmares and parts hassles always scared me away. Ditto Aprilia. Lovely to look at, which you will do a lot when they are broken.
All the electronics were coated in Olive Oil. Once I cleaned that off, my Lambo has been super reliable as my daily driver.
I met a doctor at a local track about 7-10 years ago. He mentioned he was starting residency the next day. Wanted to get one ride in before he knew he would crazy busy the next few years. That day he broke his wrist. I always wondered what happened to him.
A Ducati just won the Mint 400.
“Honda tech”
Foaming at the mouth over Ducati.
Checks out😂😂😂😂
Are you a time traveler from the 80s?
Welcome to the future!
Yes, that will definitely make his Dr's wife faster..............
They better be reliable! The shop labor rate at our local Ducati dealer is over double what all the other motorcycle dealerships in our area are getting. If I had a Ducati that needed service, I wouldn't want to send it to a non-Ducati dealership since their Desmo system is pretty unique in the motorcycling world.
I'm not sure, does the Desmodromic valvetrain require much service, or is it pretty trouble free?
