the stat of tomac having more main event wins(56) then heat race wins(53) is the most Tomac stat ever😂
I can't beLIEve he's 15 away from mc, with only 2 450sx titles...
It really is a great motivator to these riders to ride longer. If Villopoto wanted to have been ahead of ET he would’ve had to have won 9 or 10 races every year of his 450 career
It's crazy to think RC only raced for 3 more years than Joe shimodo has been pro! And never lost a single outdoor championship in that time.
The numbers he put up in 10 years were crazy.

Yep. Crazy. If you look at all the years Eli was the fastest guy to only have two is nuts.
I hate that talk though, me and my friends argue all the time about this. Legends breed legends. Without RC you may not even have a Tomac. The argument is he had this or that, well you still have to put in the work, as seen with Alden’s career training guys, it’s not just you go there and win. It’s elite talent that’s refined there. Most guys overtrained before going to him.
And anyone saying he’s beating RC (I’m assuming you mean all time) is kind of wild. 15 titles, never lost an outdoor title, 2 perfect seasons. Never losing a sx title after winning one outside of the 04 injury. Tomacs been beat by guys that weren’t even a threat in any other season. And has never defended a sx season. I love Tomac, been a superfan since he took on the entire west coast by himself in Vegas 2011, but his weird seasons and weird races play a factor. RC was a different animal. He literally retired not losing a race outdoors and actually took the points lead his last race on a partial schedule. Think about that. He could have won another one in his sleep, and maybe even the next 2-3 years. Tomac has rode 7 years longer and still not even close to him! Respect the legends.
His weird races and weird seasons are due to shit ass Kawasaki team. Change my mind…how many more titles does he win if the Kawasaki doesn’t dnf indoors and out? Brake problems, engines grenading multiple times, they can’t get him comfortable so he has to mail it in with arm pump, he was instantly faster on Yamaha than he was on kawi, and instantly better again on Ktm than either of those bikes.
He wins 2-5 more titles if he doesn’t go to the worst team in the field…change my mind.
And before you say but rC wOn oN kAwI… that was 25 years ago, they weren’t all geriatrics at that time getting in the way of progress.
Outdoors- You’re saying he wins 2016? After double elbow surgery? Against a prime Roczen? No. I’ll give you the 2020 season, so that’s one. 2021 he won 2 races. On a bike that he won on in 2019, and had some issues in 2020 with the double dnf. That’s it, that was his kawi career there outdoors.
Supercross- 2016 his elbows were fucked or just not right. 2017 he choked against Dungey while being clearly the fastest rider. 2018 hurt his shoulder in a weird crash. Missed a round. 2019, you could say it was the worst team in the pits, I guess? He had horrible finishes starting off and coop matched well with KTM. 2020 wins. 21 he got a prime Coop and had weirdo races. 1- you’re discrediting how good Coop was/is. 2-all great riders don’t like their bikes but are still able to win, did we not learn anything from the RV stories? Rc early on? Stew in 09?
I have Tomac 3rd-4th all time. RC, MC, RV and Tomac.
2019 he broke the wing tips on his back in December right before the season started, plus all new bike and hydro clutch
I think outdoors 20 and 21 he wins if he has the machinery. Look at his level in 22 on the Yamaha, he was a different guy.
The dnfs in 20 ruined his season from the start, and in 21 he wasn’t even close, and the Tomacs are on record for saying the reason they left is the kawi guys were too rigid on set up and didn’t want to go where they wanted to go with the bike.
Then he goes to Yamaha, and wow imagine that he looks great because the team is willing to work with the rider imagine that?
Indoors I remember the kawi had brake issues, and how many rides he was cruising around with arm pump because again, the team refuses to get the bike to where the riders want it.
This is 100% the year to capitalize. He needs to get to 60 this year to set himself up. Hes stated multiple times as long as he feels he can win he’s going to continue racing.
In this sport, its much harder to win races as you get older. Because younger talent comes in that has more energy, better reaction, more prone to hanging it out, less afraid to crash, they've watched all the racing up to that point including you. And somehow Tomac is still the winningest rider in the SX Series right now at age 33, winning half of the races so far. I'd say its finally becoming noticeable how much more difficult it is to win past 30 years old, no one else has really done it THIS much. He's definitely the GOAT of Longevity in the sport. He might not Officially have the SX titles to prove it, but he's absolutely in the conversation of GOAT. MC is the King of Supercross. RC is the GOHT, Greatest of His Time. And Tomac is the GOAT, Greatest of All Time because he's breaking records across a 14 year span.
I agree on most of what you said, but in no way is Eli the goat. If you want to put him 2, I have no issues with that, even though I don’t have him there. Eli has 101 wins total across the board (not counting 250SX)…… in YEAR 16.
RC has 150 wins (450SX/MX,250MX)….in 11.5 years….
Ps- this is all in good fun. I absolutely live for these discussions lol.
RC was a decimator. Single mindedly focused to win to a fault.
But he did quit mid season and retire. He could have went on and continued chalking up more records, but didnt. He made that choice and that was obviously a mental decision. It’s not disrespectful it’s just what happened.
Eli roughing it out on brands that werent the best, even that freak crash less Achilles injury where he was looking to win the title…thats a lot to overcome to get to this point.
Next to Prado RC almost sounds like the quitter. He didn’t even go over to Europe and try to win their series to prove he’s the best like Prado did.
He was never contracted to finish the season in 2007. He raced every race he was supposed to
Oh my god, I hate the longevity thing with Lebron. He's not in the same universe as MJ. Kinda like with Eli, he doesn't come close to RC. Lebron and Eli could be the GOAT's of longevity but that doesn't make you the greatest racer ever by a long shot. 10 mx titles, 5 sx titles, 2 perfect seasons. Nuff said. Now Eli's staying power could end up moving him above the Ryan's for me when its all said and done. Because for now I have both of them above Eli
Pit Row
Eli would destroy Rc prime to prime…
Idk man, I love Eli a ton and hate on RC but seeing Stewart ride to his absolute limit in ‘06 and ‘07 just to keep pace with Carmichael shows how much RC really had in the tank
It's really hard to decide if this or calling Tomac the GOAT is the dumbest thing I've read so far this year.
exactly ‼️ Eli is cool don’t get me wrong , for his generation crop of the riders he went against, the cooper Webbs of the world , the Blake baggett’s , the Jason Anderson’s the dean Wilson’s , the Ken roczen’s of the world etc…. Eli is THE GOAT OF HIS GENERATION but now when we talk all time list , I’m not having it with Eli being over RC just cause of longevity , it’s like ppl forgot how many titles RC has won , until somebody eclipsed RC in titles there shouldn’t be a discussion of somebody being ranked above him
Amen.
People forget just how dominant Ricky Carmichael was as a racer. He would grab the national championship in his teeth each May and shake it like a bulldog until the trophy fell out. For seven years, other riders pulled up to the starting gate, looked over and saw that number 4 and were beaten mentally already. After he lost a race, which was rare, he could be seen out in the parking lot bench pressing Volkswagens in frustration.
James Stewart was absolutely shocked at Mount Morris in 2005. In the second moto, he got the holeshot and took off, setting lap times 6 seconds faster than any laid down during practice. To his horror RC was right on his tail, gaining on him. By then it was too late to train.
“Everything was going great at Southwick,” Stewart said after leading most of the first moto this past Sunday. “I had great lines through the turns and all of a sudden I switched them up. I don’t know why. Then Ricky came by me and I had three really bad laps and he was able to gap me. I then stayed even with him until the end when we had a little problem with our clutch and I stalled it” (James Stewart, excuse # 117).
“Did anyone see how fast Bubba was coming through the sweeper into the section with the tabletop along pit row?.... He looked like a roadracer coming through there. Unreal. He looks like he rides as fast as anyone could...then something yellow shows up behind him.”
“As I’m watching Carmichael dismantle the world again week after week, never getting tired and always chalking it up to fitness, I’m thinking that maybe the guy is so good that anyone chasing him is gonna’ miss the mark by a long shot. Yes it’s tempting to say “Ricky wins so do what Ricky does and you’ll win.” But really, is it possible that maybe he’s just a freak of nature and it’s not possible to do what he does, and maybe doing it doesn’t help? I’ve said it before, Ricky has been killing it since he was on 60s, and I doubt it was because he was putting in more time on a Huffy than the other 8 year olds at the time. The dude is a freak and his records will never be duplicated, and you could line up Hercules against him on a motocross track and he would still win” (Jason Weigandt).
Eli would have his races and win some... But Ricky would be right there and win the others. With Tomac's hit and miss non beast mode rides that he still occasionally has, RC would put it away every time. RC was not only brutally fast, he was ALWAYS brutally fast. That's what makes him the GOAT.
RC the goat no need to talk further….his win/podium percentage, total win count, total title count, undefeated in motocross championships, two perfect seasons…never an off race or a season….just pure domination...Every. Single. Time. He. Lined. Up. For. A. Moto.
As soon as anyone loses a national title (to injury or otherwise) they will never the GOAT...that's how high that freaking bar is...
RC is the best ever…greatest of all time…I like Eli…and he might be a clear #2 when his career is over…but he’s no RC….
Im just glad he’s still out there
I agree on the GOAT spectrum that RC is first and Tomac second. I was merely saying as far as successful longevity in this sport, no one is anywhere near Tomac.
ET is my favorite racer since RV. I always root for him, he's had some incredible performances over the years. But do you want to be in a plane piloted by someone that lands it 10 out of 10 times, or 10 out of 20? Championship win % is relevant and ET had some years where I think he caved under pressure. Doesn't mean I don't root for him, he's incredible, but his numbers aren't as good as some of the other guys. Interestingly, neither are Jetts if you count races he missed due to injury.
My Rushmore is MC, RC, Stanton, Tomac IF Tomac wins this year’s championship. I’ve gotta put 101 MX & SX wins from Tomac over RV’s 72 or Dungey’s 80. A 21 win difference cancels out an extra championship.
We’re going to see a lot more longevity in the sport after these days. The riders have figured out how to be fit without banging their heads into the wall. I was watching 2014 A1 when Kenny won. Emig mentions Stewart maybe “losing his step, getting too old”. He was 29. It was so crazy how just a decade ago you racing in the 450 class for 6-7 years meant you were due to be out the door. Kenny’s first 450SX top 10 was over 15 years ago.
Eli is great, has lots of wins, but 2 Titles does trump the Ryans.
RV won 4 straight SX titles.
Dungey won 4 SX titles, with 3 in a row: 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017
