FWIW, I think the Showas look better on the bike
Agree, they look great. I'm blown away by the travel on those factory shocks. How much wheel travel will they deliver on your bike?
they will deliver 12in of travel.
OUTSTANDING!

Impressive and super cool.
When you are taking Simons forks off a bike like this: you are really building something special!
So I’m experimenting with front fenders. Trying to get the best look possible? I’ve always been unsure about the look of the stock 125 fender?
So I installed a 78\79 250 fender I think I like it better?
Not that it matters what I think, but I agree that the 78/79 250 fender looks better. The 125 fender always looks goofy to me. Heck, the 75/78 125 fender might look good.
I was very lucky to find a period correct factory RC 125 folding shift lever. A nice detailed touch for my Mugen to build.
Only thing I’m waiting on is the factory Showa/mugen factory piggyback, shocks coming from Japan. Then the bike will be finished and I will do a photo shoot and a video of the bike running.
Such a sweet bike, i may be in the minority but Id be rdining it. Some think its art and really it is, but i always believe that to honor the engineers and any all people involved in creating it should be used for its intended purpose. Looking at it is 10% joy, riding it would be 90% total bliss. My first bike i bought with money from my paper route wa a left over 77 CR 125, when they released 79s. Love that era!
I might lightly ride it. My first dirt bike I bought a bran new 1978 XR75 with my money working for my father all summer of 77. good times.
I restore XR75‘s now. I’ve done about 20 of them.
I have finally received factory\Mugen showa piggyback Shocks. Extremely rare and are correct for this build. How much room they have matching and correct and stamped serial numbers.
They are original, and in good shape. after a good cleaning I have installed them the bike.
Pit Row
I found the bike in a barn 30 minutes from where I live. It had been sitting for years and was in pretty bad shape from neglect and abuse. After eight months of hard work time and effort in a lot of money lol. The bike is finally finished, except for a couple small little details.

I am extremely happy and proud of the results. I’ve always dreamed of owning a mugen like this. What makes this particular Mugen better for me is that I built it myself.
You've probably checked, but, if you haven't, it would be wise to remove the springs and run the rear end through it's full travel, to make sure the reservoir ends / valves don't hit the swingarm.

After…
Great work, that is a masterpiece you've got there.
IMPRESSIVE! Some trick parts on that original find.
Amazing, what an awesome build. Thanks for sharing
Every single 1979 factory air cooled 125 Mugen I have seen the shocks are mounted this way. So I think they were engineered to be mounted this way? I like the look of them mounted the other way but this seems correct?
