This post is a little confusing for me, as someone that has known who he was the entire time, and many others have known going back to the 80's. This is precisely what people voted for. What's changing is not Trump, rather it's his voters tolerance of his shenanigans (people eventually got bored with The Jerry Springer Show too), which is great, but it would be even better if next time people didn't allow themselves to become so enamored with a flashy human (or any human) in the first place. The trade that people made to support him, which is to lower the quality of their character in favor of some cheap FU's to the left, was never a good trade to begin with. It's great that people are reclaiming their independence, even if we're talking low single digits at the national level.
But here's a major problem with where we're heading; since everyone is so hellbent on doing everything in the worst and most partisan ways possible, those things will now be condemned in entirety. Since the left keeps trying to hug the crime out of people, that means it's now wrong to show any compassion to criminals. Since the left wasted billions trying to help the homeless with zero measurable improvement, it's now a waste to try and help the homeless. And since the right is removing illegals in the most blackhearted ways possible, it will now be wrong to remove illegals. And since the right tried to make budgets cuts in the most bitter ways possible, it's now going to be bad to make budget cuts. Nuance dies a little more every time we dip our toes into these binary partisan extremes.
Things have been like that for a longtime. Less partisan but the large swings in policy and what is acceptable. It seems to always swing aggressively back the opposite way before coming back more to the center. I do hope that we have not started to have those swings be so big that they never are able to come back to a more sensible space.
It would be nice if instead of getting more and more parison, the swing goes to being more bipartisan and the totally partisan ways would become unacceptable. A true bipartisan partnership on a way to plan the future of the US long-term could allow amazing things to happen . We could bring some manufacturing back, and other things that can not happen in a single Presidential term.
I do see more people that are fed up with the way things are so partisan and how it stops a lot from getting done. I hope that is the way things swing and that it happens sooner than later.

More and more it seems as if Trump’s actions are not matching his speak. If your theme is “America First “ then the priority should be to at least attempt to bring the country together. As smart as Trump is in many areas, he appears to be ignorant to what effect his speech and actions are having on the citizens of this country. At any rate , this thing is turning into a fiasco, and it really doesn’t half to be.
30+ years ago there existed liberal republicans in the NE and conservative democrats in the South. Meaning both parties had to build an internal consensus before engaging the opposition. This resulted in party platforms more towards the middle than extremes.
Now extremists dominate a conversation where concessions = defeat. There are lessons to be learned by both parties.
