We have had plenty of asshole riders. The difference is Deegan is also the fastest. None of this would matter if he was running 8th. It's a great story and I am not a fan, but also glad he is here. Yeah, that's also the reason why he can play that game so well to be fair. He can catch people, slow down, catch them again and play with them as much as he wants. But I would also still prefer if he just passes people and then puts a gap on them. Shimoda at SMX for example... Yes, he would have still lost the SMX if he would have passed Shimoda clean and got away, but he would have got 2nd overall at least and everyone would have talked about how fast he was. Instead he ended up injured, lost 200k and looked like the biggest donkey the sport has seen in a long time.
I think Kitchen is the only guy right now speed wise who can at least put up a fight with Deegan, hopefully he finally doesn't fumble his starts, that's the battle we need to see for sure!

Was curious so went and looked. Hasn't had a YouTube video hit a million views in over two years. Was the norm for older videos. There's random diesel mechanics restoring old bulldozers on YouTube with 4x the views that Deegan is getting these days.
Surely a lot of it has transitioned to Instagram but there you're not getting paid just for having followers and posting. Any money is coming from sponsorship stuff.
This notion that they're getting rich off clicks and social media is very much biggest fish in a very small pond stuff. Most of their wealth surely comes from other things Brian did early on and wise investing, and now Deegan's actual contracts. Roczen has almost as many Instagram followers, do you ever hear him worrying about it?
They could quit social media and all the antics that come with it tomorrow and focus solely on racing and it wouldn't change their bottom line nearly as much as some people seem to think. Their behavior is driven far more by their desire for attention than it is this grand business strategy. Whether it's true or not, they convince everyone the attention whore behavior is getting them rich off the haters to legitimize being attention whores, and their fans eat it up.
The basic argument from people defending the Deegans is to take a “heads I win, tails you lose” approach. People love them? Great, they want fans! People hate them? Great, they’re generating clicks and your hate is feeding their bank account and motivating them to succeed. If you spin everything as positive - regardless of how negative some things may seem - then you’re not engaging in rational discussion. This essentially disqualifies you from being taken seriously because what you’re saying is vacuous. If what you’re saying can accommodate all evidence then evidence doesn’t actually matter and you’re not making any meaningful assertions. That’s generally what one needs to resort to if when committed to defending ridiculous.

Same, every hospital I work at wants me to use AI recording of patient encounters to write notes for me and offer suggestions and I refuse to use it. Will 100% be used against us at some point soon. Most predictable thing ever but saves you 5 seconds writing patient notes so the younger crowd thinks it's awesome.
