I do understand the sentiment of this thread. In the 70s my brain was laser focused on moto. Crash and Burn mags all over the room and doodling in class. Ive posted this one before, but it kinda shows where my head was at back then instead of paying attention in class.
What's Skyway, LOP/LDP, and Sun?
Skyway bmx frame and parts..
Skyway made aftermarket mufflers
Sun made rims
LOP was Laurens Offner Products, which did suspension mods
I had a Skyway silencer on my MX400B back then.
LOP made aftermarket swingarms and other accessories.
Sun rims were available then.
LOP also had a race team which sponsored Marty Moates to his historic Carlsbad win.
Sun rims are still available on Buchanan's . Bought one for my CR500 in 2021 after cracking a Warp 9 front rim.

I think I was 13-14 when I bought my first real bike. Me and my buddy rode everyday non stop or at least until we had to do a little work to buy more gas. We lived in a really rural community where my family had a bit of property. I lived with my mother and her only rule was, no riding on the roads in our small town. Of course, she looks out the kitchen window one day and sees me ride by. She waited until I got home and said she needed my keys to the bike and told me I was grounded off my bike for a week. It’s the only time we fought/ argued with each other my entire childhood, that was after I threw my boot at the house. Longest freaking week of my life! And that’s when dirt bikes were the only thing on our mind's.
RIP Mom.
Soooo flippin cool 😎!! My school doodles weren't nearly as good. I had number templates ready as well ... you can have the 2000's, I'll take the 70's life every day of the week. If ya know ya know ... and you're old as fuck !!! 🤣
Attn old guys: please keep sharing old stuff because it’s really fuckin’ cool.
You were there for the pinnacle of motorcycles in USA and we young dudes really do love to hear about it.
Man that picture takes me back to another time. The longer I look at it, the more it pulls me back.
Thanks for posting that gem.
I was 14 in 1979, and i knew what this was going to be , even before the picture loaded.
What a time to be around the sport. I used to go to the newsagents to pick up Dirt Bike and MXA every month , to find out who won what , usually 2 months it after the event. Here in the UK, having a DG sticker was a big thing. We had a company called Berm Specialities, that imported stuff from the US, he probably made as much out of stickers as he did out of selling DG heads and pipes.
Great pic!
Looks just like we did over here

Ponca City 1977 - XR75

That was my first brand new bike. A 1977 YZ 80 D that I bought with my paper route money.
My first bike I bought brand new was the year before, a 1976 Yz80C that I bought with my paper route money. Good times!
