Every person under 30 I know that has a pot to pee in had a family hookup. Whether it was down payments, free cars, “hand me down” assets like homes and vehicles, or just family land. Oh well though dude we’re just complainers, lazy, victims, blames, etc etc etc

Edit to add I’m not over here hard up either. We’re 100-% debt free and live on 40% of my income. This isn’t what it should take to save for a small house either. I’m not anywhere near the majority though and that’s my problem. I’m fine but the huge majority of the current young generation is honestly not.

Gee I see your sober point, there's no self made home owners in the USA under 30. It's just not possible.

I think sometimes the "good old days" in this country were artificially stimulated. We bankrupted Europe financing and selling weapons for both World Wars, they lost a huge portion of man power, manufacturing ability, aerable land, and money. For many, many years we were the only game in town, Britain was rationing into the 50s I think still and the USSR lost 20% of it's population from WWII. We gained a huge amount of wealth in this country that lasted a long time from events that gutted the rest of the civilized world. I don't think this can be ignored or discounted. That being said, to state wealth or success is unattainable by the youth in this nation is silly. That this is even being discussed by people who own dirt bikes is ironic.

Nah cmon don’t duck out of the chat now and be sarcastic. I’m serious what guys who are 26-29 that are financially well without being in crippling debt or getting subsidized somehow? I’m not even being argumentative I honestly want to know.

True. Also today the average person with an average income , or even a little more than average income cannot buy a house on their own Unless it’s a bad neighborhood or in the absolute middle of no where.

Correct. The “go where you can afford” mentality actually is more accurately “can’t afford to go” as well.

Sure I can move out to rural Mississippi but then what? Work at Hardee’s?

Or maybe we could all move 45 minutes outside of civilization. You know, all our families need is a roof and food. The most important thing isn’t a present father or anything😂

Agreed! Sure, I could move to where I can afford... but then im driving 1.5 to 2 hours each way because where I can afford doesn't have work that can cover the mortgage. I get the whole "dont give up" attitude these most likely older guys are spouting. But a lot of them are completely out of touch with the current reality for younger generations. The only ones that are, have kids and have been coherent enough in their lives to see how much struggle is happening. Like you said, everyone I know in their 20's and even 30's who owns a home, had help from a parent. Me personally, Im ready for us to have another tea party like we had in 1773.

I bought my first bike since 2014 a few months ago.  Spent about $1500 less than I did on my 2014 brand new for the same new 2025 model. New bikes can be had for pretty cheap.  Gear doesn't seem much more money, other than helmets.  But damn, tires are crazy.  And in NorCal at least, practice day entrees are pretty expensive.  They were $25-30 in 2016 when I stopped riding and $50 at every track in my area now.  Oh and gas to get to the track is 3 times as expensive.

I know plenty. Yet even if I send photos, SSI numbers, phone numbers, invite you to their homes for Christmas, it certainly could not change your opinion. Your attitude is nothing new, I have seen it throughout my life in many. It is very comforting to think the only way somebody can be doing better than yourself is that they have advantages you never had, rather than be introspective. I understand.

For histories sake in 2008, 17 years ago, Bear Stearns and Indy Mac bank went belly up as the banking industry crumbled in mortgage crisis. People lost 20-30% value on their homes easy, many walked away from them they were so upside down on their mortgages. I believe the stock market crash at the time was one of the worst in history other than the thirties. Many lost everything, many I knew. The federal government had to step in to bail the banks out. If you are 30, you would have 13 at the time, you have no idea. It's easy to think your generation had it the roughest, every generation does. Housing, medical insurance, education are expensive for many but realistically look back through history, every generation has crosses to bear.

you're talking about the "great recession". This was caused by companies/banks packaging "subprime" mortgages and selling them as Securities. The sub primes were issued to many people who had no business getting approved at all and high % defaulted. Cascade effect rocked our whole economy, and many safeguards came out of it including regular "stress tests" on financial institutions to make sure they have enough reserves to keep from blowing up and leaving us taxpayers on the hook again.

This was also the last time we had a real recession with real consequences that reset the economy. Since the 1929 market crash recessions have occurred every 7-11 years and we are WAY overdue, yet politicians (all sides) have artificially fudged numbers and programs and pressure on Federal Reserve to prevent having the recession occur on their watch so they can blame the "other guys" which is making it that much worse when it finally inevitably happens.

This is among the things I hate worst about our political system as it's rigged right now.

Gas is the same price now as it was in 2016. The worst was back in 2008, that summer it hit $4 a gallon here which was crazy high at the time. That's the year Bush sent everyone $600 checks and released oil reserves to try and make voters happy. Seems to be what politicians do, "oh our policy's fucked up everything, here's not enough cash to do anything with and another trillion on the deficit"....

Certainly. It can not be overstated what the World Wars did to the economies of the rest of the world. Pre WWI England was the leading economic engine of the world and soon into the war was a debtor nation to us. France still has parts of it's countryside off limits due toWWI unexploded ordinance. And as I stated the USSR losy 20% of it's population. Their tragedies enriched us and propelled the dollar to the imternational currency.

We are past due for a recession. It is terrible young people have affordability anxiety with decent jobs. When the next recessions occurs the jobs will go too.

Yea the gaslighting is crazy lol. Guess I can’t blame them if they only remember back in their day buying their house with a handshake and a pack of strawberries.

Even my father tells me “I don’t know how you younger guys are gonna do it, way harder today to purchase homes then when I was in my 20’s”

I make “decent money” and the wife and I want kids. The way I was raised was with a stay at home mom, and that’s personally what we want for our kids.

I cannot afford a house mortgage even if I had 1 kid and stay at home mom, let alone 3. So currently trying to figure that out. But no matter what never give up 💪🏽 it’s still possible like some guys are saying, and I’ll make it happen. It’s just SIGNIFICANTLY Harder now. If you’re saying otherwise you’re just really out of touch.

I meant it costs 35-plus per hour to run/race the bikes

for me it was more like 50hr, Motor, Oil, Air filters, Oils, tires, chains and sprockets, labor

We should sell our bikes and buy zero turns and a barbeque.

But then you have to buy bigger pants every 6 months and that gets expensive.

No you don’t that’s why you don’t. You just generalize. My point still stands - most people my age that are rocking out are doing so based on the generosity of their parents.

Anyways, I have it great and statistically am in an extremely rare margin among my group. I’m not sure what you mean by “your attitude”.
I’ve eaten at home, gone nowhere, driven junk, bought on sale, and lived lean since before college/grad school to be where I am. I’m doing great all things considered and that’s with taking care of my mom.

You just talk from a place of stupidity honestly.

My wife is working part time and preparing for that same life and we’re gonna make it. Just stay away from payments is all I can say man a However you can.

To be fair…

Even in the Bay Area, I know 20sumthins that have a condo or home…and, usually, they DON’T have some silly assed GT3 as a daily driver…or other stupid toys like many in their field seem to think are necessary status symbols. Instead, they were focused and a few of them put their hiring bonuses straight into a home.

Note: where these people live is amongst THE ABSOLUTE WORST domestic real estate markets. Period.

Priorities…one of them goes to work, on most days, on a little Honda Navi that I found for him for $1700 new. And, get this, he went for the coolest AGV FIM spec helmet and wears proper gear! 🤣 He’s focused, no f’s given about “status”, got himself a condo near Apple Park with his signing bonus (and got some down-payment assistance from his new job…as offered to many…but, they don’t have the discipline to use it and thier bonuses…again, Status Sucks!), is looking to get a dirt bike once his Slate is delivered…he’s trying to buy my RM…PFFFFFT, NO! But, we will find him a bad ass 125 smoker from the carb’d Japanese golden years and, again, he’ll do it on the thrifty-side. Oh…and he’s about to turn 29. Good kid. Total computer wizard and fwd thinking AI nerd.

So, yes, they’re out there. But, to your point…they’re not “the avg 20sumthin”…not even when they’re poached by Apple or Google…etc. Oh, and…that might be due to how materialistic we’ve become as a society.

But, I digress.

A few interesting stats I read from a Blaze Media article this morning:

In 1955, the median homebuyer was in his late 20s. In 2025, it’s 56. A minimum-wage worker in the 1950s needed roughly seven years of pay to buy a modest home without a mortgage. Today, it’s around 27.

In 1955, a student could pay college tuition by working a few hours a day at minimum wage. Today, that same student would need to work about six hours a day. If a kid wants Yale or any Ivy League school, he would have to work 26.4 hours a day — an impossible figure that illustrates how detached elite education has become from reality.

Assumptions made on my part…but, I’m assuming that Aberdeen is a nice little small town? I’m assuming a GREAT place to raise a family?

There’s brand new condos there for $270K. If you get a decent FHA the down payment is $10Kish plus some potential “buy down” fees of your thinking about that monthly payment.

Not trying to get personal, just an old dude seeing some light at the end of the tunnel…and seeing A LOT of awesome places to live in your neck of the woods. REALLY NICE areas.

The point: I can see you pulling it off. 💪🏻

I've said before I started from nothing, busted my ass my whole life, like a whole lot of others did. I also made some poor choices along the way. Could have managed money better, etc....

That said, I was 38 when I bought my first house in 2008. It's my only house and more than likely they'll carry me out of it in a bag at the end.
