Care to share what a typical race weekend was like for you?

-MAVERICK- wrote:

Not sure we'll hear from him. He hasn't posted in over a year.

Typical race weekend is :

Wednesday/Thursday:

Wash/Clean hauler, grocery shop, ensure anything broken is fixed. Park hauler for press day and set up truck if riding press

Friday- ensure set up is 100 percent complete. Clean inside the hauler, make lunch for team, ensure all filming equipment and radios are charged. Assist in any help needed from mechanics

Saturday- make breakfast, ensure pits are clean and ready for the race day, set out posters for fans, film practice and races, make lunch and dinner as well, clean the truck and pits again. Test down truck and pack everything away

Sunday- clean hauler and any pit items that got dirty, assist mechanics if needed. Then drive to next city

That one used to be my rig (it was originally Yoshimura Suzuki's road race rig).

I remember you mentioning that Beta was going to buy your rig, but I didn't know it was part of team Suzuki before that.

I know the PRMX one is for sale.

Does AJE have a new rig or are they leaving the sport? Their Instagram page is practically dead. They haven't posted anything since February.

I know where most of them have come from, bit of a hobby. Name a US team and I’ll tell you its history.

The AJE one belonged to Star Racing. It was originally ordered from featherlite by John Force Racing for Drag Racing but there was an issue with the spec. Either miss-ordered or someone read the build sheet wrong and a slide was on the wrong side. JFR wouldn’t take it so it ended up with Star.

That one contained Davey Jones locker! Davey Jones was a tech for Yoshimura Suzuki Road race team and Factory Kawasaki before that, and I can verify he did have a locker in that rig.

ML, it would be cool to see a piece on the history of each trailer. Maybe in your spare time… 😉 First thing my son and I do at the races is check out the rigs.

I agree with this idea!  Would be rather cool to learn about.....  I remember a few years back at Lorettas talking to the driver of the old Seven rig, and him telling me it's history while he gave me a tour inside.  I remember about falling over when he told me the cost to have it wrapped!  But as mentioned, it would be cool to see a feature about all these rigs, and their stories.

My curiosity was about the average lifespan of one of them, based on having a good life and being cared for properly.  10-15 years?  Longer?

Also, there are a ton of trailers in the paddock that are over 20 years old, some over 25.

Must have questions:

-What's your specialty on the BBQ grill?

-If you could drive any truck/tractor, which one would it be and why? Could be anything from an old school truck, old flat nose, stretched out custom rig, to the most recent state of the art truck.

-What are some of the funniest or best memories over the years with the team, racers or even on the road?

-love the food specialty question

-what have they enjoyed the most when working

-what rigs they really want to drive kind of like you said. New or old

I think this could be a really cool project.

I think this could be a really cool project.

There are a couple of guys who have been driving the team rigs for a long time, and have some amazing stories.

Hands down they longest tenured is Pat Muras, and for whom drives the KTM  hospitality rig.

When Yamaha bought their first 18 wheeler in 1993, Pat was the driver for them. He quit for a few years around 2000 but came back shortly there after.  Second place is Brian Barnhart, he started in 1998 and driving for Jeremy McGraths program and moved over to Kawi somewhere around 2005 or so. I think for 2025 Big B is officially taking an in house job at Kawi so he is no longer driving, but I am not sure ….

Both guys are a good follow insta. There is also Rabbit, who drives the Triumph rig and Jim, the guy who runs the PC rig. A lot of the guys have been doing it for 10+ years and it’s a lifestyle for them. Same thing for the guys that run the busses / RV’s for the riders, guys like Dean Sauce….

But the real OG driver was George Ellis, RIP. George was the first driver for Kawi back in 1991 and drove up until maybe (?) 2003 or so? He passed away (also was Jimmy Ellis’s dad).

Left work on Wednesday and drove past this. Took a photo thinking of this thread but completely forgot to find it after I got him. It looks even better in person
