The dutch federation, Herlings, Vlaanderen have nothing to do with this decision. It seems it's all about KTM.

How sure are you about that? because Herlings is racing his KTM weekend after so in that case they would have forbidden him to ride his actual MXGP race bike since i assume he is racing locally on a practice bike, or possibly separate local race bike.

I doubt a few thousand Euros in shipping Herlings bike is the issue. Adamo is there, Coenen. Plenty of bike options including him just taking the bike he rides on weekend after over there and a practice bike as backup.

Hell, KTM US has a couple bikes no one is using right now, and I assume the truck will be there to help support the European KTM guys.

He is born in South Africa.

All the MXDN victory's they claim this way have a asterisk.

Whatever the real reason is for this selection should be made public.
Because now its just laughable.

Puerto Rico...

The funniest scenario would be that they made an extra team under the "Dutch Carribian" like US did with Puerto Rico..  A team with Herlings, De Reuver and Eggens

Good point, sure at Ironman in 2017 he brought his dampers on the plane and bought a Pirelli tyre when he got there and that worked out fine. It must be contractual stuff and not bike availability.

No rider can give his spot away. It’s not his to give away.

That being said it should have went to Herlings in the 1st place. Vlanderan isn’t even having a great season.

OK, To clear up the choice a bit..  When the dude from the KNMV chose the riders (a while back), Both Vlaanderen and Coldenhof were standing above Herlings in the championship standing..  Herlings came back strong after his last collarbone fracture, but that was after they choose the team.

And to be honoust, it's kind of fair to do it this way.

And this dude couldn’t change the team even though Herlings won 3 GP’s after his injury?

The KNMV has a long history of messing up MXoN-selections, ask Marc de Reuver. The fastest rider should go, simple as that.

On the other hand, it's not Calvin's responsability to give up his own place. Especially because he was performing better as Coldenhoff the past weeks. It's just the KNMV / Barry Forschelen that probably hasn't got the backbone to straighthen their own mistake.

It's a shame that herlings didn't just tell the truth.....and spread that stupid story that he wasn't selected...yes,the knmv often makes stupid mistakes....but this has nothing to do with the knmv......herlings doesn't want or can't ride there......

Herlings cant tell he isn’t getting material, otherwise he’s saying that he’ll leave KTM. That’s why he told on interview(s) that he didn’t got selected. People are blaming the KNMV/Barry for this, but it’s indeed not on them.

Vialle is in the same spot, with the upcoming move to HRC.

Barry Forschelen has been adamant that the team was selected when Herlings was sidelined with a collarbone injury and it was therefore a safe decision to leave him out: it allowed Yamaha and Fantic to move forward with shipping arrangements and whatnot. There is no substance behind the rumors that hint his exclusion was led by KTM, the manufacturer that he will depart in a matter of weeks. The Austrians were positioned to back him and his peers who also have a foot out of the door.

Read it again.

Lewis isn't saying he believes it, he's just reporting on what Forschelen said like any journalist would and should.

Not a good look. If they have any experience, which they do, they should have said two out of three 450 riders will go where of 1 selected right away. The other we will await and see.

If you are a 5-10 team you select right away. If you have a potential winning team with riders that are all good representatives for the sport, you wait.

How it's been done now, unfortunately deprive fans and Dutch people from a winning team candidate.

Jeff Ward was born in Scotland.

Wardy was on a member of the USA Motocross Des Nations team and won 7 Des Nations titles.

Yes, I'd like for Vlaanderen to represent SA but he is also a Dutch citizen and had made his choice with whom to represent.

Are you saying we need to asterisk 7 USA victories because Jeff Ward was born in Scotland? 😉

Eli has mentioned multiple times that if he thought someone else (AP in the past for example) would perform better than he was able at the moment he would bow out.  I think that’s honorable of Eli and can respect that a lot.  I understand Vlanderans perspective wanting to go and would think him wanting the best team possible to go would be respectful too.
