Hunter is getting closer in speed to Jett. He’s far closer than a year ago.

Seeing Hunter after the race you could tell he was not pleased. I could see him wanting to be on a different team at some point. He’s good enough now to be the top rider on a factory team and playing second fiddle to his brother is probably getting old. Things are good where he is, but a desire for a change would not surprise me either.

Are we sure he is second fiddle?

Or to rephrase:

What do you mean with second fiddle?

More spotlight on him (he has already a lot of spotlight?!)?

More money?

More special parts/ focus on his needs of the bike?

I am not sure he would thrive more wat a different team with all that tailored to him.

It’s not like he is weimer at kawi along rv. Seems like this is his best shot because he learns from jett as well. They don’t ride too dissimilar. But then again I am just a “pedant” behind a keyboard who only raced locally in bumfuck Germany. I did race with Max Nagl on  a few occasions though on 60ies and 80ies(obviously he waxed me😂😂😂)

It's amazing how quickly people forget, it was Hunter who did all the leg-work in getting GP rides and during Jett's early career being big brother and keeping him on the rails. Without his influence, Jett maybe goes on a different trajectory and doesn't get to to be as great as he currently is. Now I'm not saying for a second that means Jett isn't a generational talent, but when we sit here talking as if Hunter is riding his coat-tails it's worth remembering a bit who helped forge the path for the kid to follow...

I think there's every possibility that Hunter keeps Jett honest and is a crucial point for Jett on everything on and off-track. They have such similar styles that they compliment each other on bike development and testing, so take one part of that whole out to another team and it's not unreasonable that it weakens the whole chain a bit.

Where would he go? All the other teams are full. Isn't he signed through 26 anyways?

Did I miss something with Kawasaki second spot alongside Sexton for 2026 ?

Marchbanks has been the only name I've seen really thrown around for the second spot.

It's funny how many people want to see a sibling rivalry and have such a hard time seeing two brothers who just get along and seriously care about the family as a whole. A lot of projection going on.

There is a symbiosis  - Hunter is training with (one of) the most complete racers the sport has ever seen, especially speed-wise, and Jett is training with an excellent bike tester who rides with a very similar style to him but a much better implementer of bike changes for any given setup issue.

Its no coincidence that Hunter is making a good case for being the new "number 2 guy" in the class (still needs to beat Eli more in SX as I would say overall Eli is the clear number 2) and Honda has been able to address bike issues quickly thanks to Trey but also Hunter - Jett just rides the shit out of whatever he is on but is not able to communicate the technical set-up changes a bike needs like his bro can.

I saw in an interview when Jett was asked how long he plans on racing, his answer was if Hunter retired he would too. He said his real enjoyment is riding and racing with his brother. I would be shocked if they split as per Jett’s comment but time will tell.

Can't say I'm a fan at all of Jett feeling guilty for beating his brother.  I get that he loves his brother and clearly they share a huge bond, but when you just win the last race in the series, the look on Jett's face was like the world was ending.

Was a really weird vibe.  He shouldn't feel guilty for being the fastest rider and it's not like Hunter and the entire family are raking in the money right now.

Thoughts?

looking at it from Jett’s perspective if I had to put my self in his shoes , its the fact tht hes prolly upset tht he gotta keep doing this too big bro knowing tht hunter is good enuff to win a title himself , u gotta go thru our flesh & blood to get to ur ultimate destination, me & cousin had this convos months ago cause we are a bunch of mma & boxing guys & there’s plenty of fighters who turned down fight offers from organizations to fight their teammates or close friends just because they don’t wana harm them & he ask me if the opportunity was on the table would I fight him for a title fight & I said yea & he didn’t take it too well after I said yea 😂🤦🏾‍♂️ the way hes looking at it is like I would go through him & hurt him in a fight just to be a champion in our weight class , same thing Jett is feeling , Jett don’t wana have to keep going thru his big bro to collect all these titles

Hunter is a bad dude. It's probably tearing him up getting second to his bro time and time again, but everyone else in the 450 class has the same problem. It looked like Jett was really thinking about it during moto 2 (letting Hunter take it). Seemed like he decided a few laps from the end that he was going to take it - and he dropped his lap times just like that. Seems like he can do that whenever he wants, and nobody, Hunter included, can stop it. Hopefully he stays motivated and doesn't allow his brother to change how he races.
