tm250 two stroke wins the 450A class at Dade City

Jerry Kopoian raced a totally stock tm250 at the Monster Energy Sponsor Cup and AMA Gold Cup Nationals in Dade City, Florida in the 250A class and 450A class. To many surprise he won both classes on the mighty tm250 two stroke. In the first moto of the 450A class he came off the start dead last and then worked his way through 20 riders for a first place finish. What this kid did is very impressive, this goes to show that its not about the bike its about how skilled the rider is and how much heart he has.

Yea those tm250s are very nice. I would love to get my hands on one of those bikes. Ive heard they are extremely well made.

Very nice. Just change out the blue fork protectors. Good riding by the youngster, maybe Roger D could take him places?

TM is quality stuff.
You get what you pay for. I'd buy a SM version(Street Legal 2 stroke or 4 in a minute)

Three observations
The bike looks awesome.
The two stroke got destroyed at the start.... gated last.
It appears to be a sand track... good for two strokes. Hard pack he never wins the moto.
I ride CR 125 and KTM 150.

ive ridden the new husky 300 and it was soo sweet it rode like a two stroke but kinda had a 4 stroke feely engine it but it was really fun

It would be nice to get 400 of these bikes in the US and on sale floors in bike shops so they would be legal for AMA Pro MX/SX racing.

That this bike is capable of doing this is no shock to me. We have been running TM's for six years now and know that they are the class of the field. We have NEVER needed to buy a single part to upgrade any of the bikes.

Once a rider becomes part of the TM 'family' every other make becomes second class.

As for the poor starts, that must be due to the rider not being used to the bike yet. When we were running the 250/2 against the 450f's last year , none of the 450's could stay with it on the start straight.

the bikes are definitely in a class of their own. These bikes come with some very trick parts and mods. These bikes sell for only around $8000, correct me if im wrong. But for what you get on the bike it is well worth it.

not sure about pro, but amatuer those kinds of numbers are about to change to allow more of the bikes like this.

four-strokes up to 900cc and reduce the permitted two-smokers to 80cc !!!

No, that would never happen.

They'd never make it into one moto or run races by stopwatches, would they ?

That would be the 16 to 24 and the 250 A class.
No big surprise in the 250 class. HP advantage clearly goes to the 250 two stroke.

Very nice looking bike though.

Ha ha touche . No actually I have the liquid cooled 250 . Its a Utah ATK . I'll give you a good deal on it if you want itEvil . Ive owned just about every brand out there and will be in the market for a real motocross 2 stroke 250 in the spring.

mxwhiteside sounds like you know what you are talking about! Hardpack on a two stroke is so difficult. There are places where a 4 stroke is wide open and the two stroke cant even open the throttle becuz it will slide out. But in loam or sand, you can keep a 2 stroke pinned and just bounce off the berms

Yea i was thinking the same thing when i saw the article. I still think 250f versus 250 two stroke is a very good matchup. Both bikes are great so it would make for some awesome racing.

Have a look at the Australian Super X and National series where 250 two stroke is legal against the 250F's. Has only managed to get a few guys to give the two stroke a go, and while there has been some good results, it has not transformed the series and had everyone go out and buy two strokes. The class is still unfortunately 95% four stroke. This mainly is due to the young kids who are on the startline have had their time on the four strokes, and not had a chance to race 250 two strokes, so they stick with what they know. If AMA pro motocross/supercross allowed the rule change to equal displacement, nothing would change, especially because of the point out rule, because the young kids in the lites class have never raced a 250 two stroke, and those that would do well on one are already racing the 450 class and would not be allowed to go back to the lites class. It may bring a couple of privateers onto the scene, which would only be good for the sport, but there would not be any sort of revolution, which is what I am sure the guys at MX sports are convinced would happen.

Yes, it wont change much in the AMA except make things more intersting. At the Aussie races it is mainly older pro's riding the 2 strokes so far. Guys like Darryl King, Cameron Taylor and Kim Ashkenazi. They must get a laugh when they holeshot their races as they have done quite often.

Kim actually holeshot the 2nd Super X 250 class moto in Canberra last night on an RM250.

It would be great to see KTM or Yamaha take a chance and put one of their young top guys on a 2 stroke.
