So thanks to the wildcards we should get at least 15 riders lining up then...
Track has one area of natural elevation change up the back, but otherwise it looks like another man made course on flat ground. Hopefully it shapes up and races well.
The Mxgp is being held in the Darwin!? like what?? Its remote, hot and humid, and I'd say half the Aussie wild cards won't even make the effort to get there
Looks like an SMX track without stands.

I'm still so confused on it being held in Darwin during that particular time of the year..
I live in the outback of Australia.. but even Darwin scares me 😂

This will be my first ever MXGP event so I'm hoping it turns out really well. Considering it will be my first time I don't think I will actually care too much about anything and will just have a good time. I'm just extremely happy I will finally get to watch riders like Herlings, Gasjer, Febvre, De wolf, the Coenen's, Vlaanderen, Seewer, and many more for the first time ever. We Aussies don't get that opportunity unless we spend a fortune and come Europe (personally don't think it's even worth going to Indonesia or China)
Bit of a cool bonus. My dad went to school with Paul Malin so will get to meet and chat with him there!
Look at that poor old fella, he’s armless.
That’s a nice story, make sure you share some pics with us and have fun!
That’s awesome and spot on. I hoped to take the family for a holiday planned around the GP, but unfortunately it just ended up being too expensive to justify, even though we already live in northern Oz.
Do I think they could have put it in a better place? Yes. But I truly hope the event is a success. Enjoy man!
That’s a good showing from the girls. Taylah mc and Simpson should top 10 . Hopefully cannon enters as well
The track looks shite, tight corners flat tra k.
wheres the best venue and pulls the biggest crowd, surely thats the venue that should be hosting.
i dont know much about mx over there , but who the fk wants to goto darwin, OZ is massive, it would be like going from the UK to russia, just to watch a moto
Out of curiosity I provided that picture to ChatGPT:
The image appears to be real and not digitally altered. It shows a large saltwater crocodile jumping out of the water to catch bait being dangled from a boat, which is a common tourist activity in certain parts of northern Australia, particularly in places like the Adelaide River near Darwin.
Key points supporting authenticity:
The scale and perspective of the crocodile match the boat and people.
The splash and water displacement around the crocodile are consistent with a large animal rising out of the water.
This kind of behavior (crocodiles leaping vertically) is known and documented during feeding demonstrations.
It's dramatic, but not unrealistic given the known strength and size of large crocodiles.
It’s a real image except the size of the croc has been altered (enlarged). Google “Adelaide River jumping crocodile”.
ChatGPT is saying the croc isn't enlarged. From googling like you suggested, the photographer says that as well.

its a real image.

I still stand by the NT being a wild place. Imagine heading out for the day and you got Cahill's Crossing to travel through.
Yes been there.
It’s probably a perspective trick.
Pit Row
Salt water crocs can get to be 7 meters long. We could use them in the rhythm sections, it would bring all new meaning to the last chance qualifier.
Anyone that has done the Skybox package at an MXGP before, Is it worth it? I'm really considering doing at least one day for the experience of it, but it is very expensive lol.
They're not promoting it at all in Oz. Friends here whom are into bikes, know nothing about it... There will be no spectators at this, and I can see by the track, they've not allowed anywhere for trackside viewing. Why Darwin? Makes absolutely no sense. They'd better chain up those bikes!
Charli cannon is in for wmx
was going to head up from sydney with a mate but whole lotta $$$ for a pokey track in the boonies................
MXGP doesn’t put their neck out, they go where the money is.
The state government (Northern Territory) has put up the money to host it. No other state government would — most already have their major events locked in. Northern Territories major event is The Finke Desert race so they see the value of investing in motorsport, along with putting money into a feature documentary on the Finke and putting a huge bunch of money into the Netflix series, MaveriX. Northern Territory Major Events is all in on off road motorsports as a way to promote the region globally — and they must be seeing a return of some sort…
My guess is that regardless of the crowd size, the investment is about putting Northern Territory and Darwin on peoples minds. Which, considering the crocodile post on here, is already working.
It’s a fantastic place and the race is being held during the best (weather wise) time to visit Darwin, so get amongst it.
And not forgetting Hidden Valley puts on a hell of an event for V8 Supercars, so that side of the show should be top notch. No one thought that would work either when they first went there.
I lived in Darwin for 4 years. It's hot and the humidity is ridiculous. Bikes will get stolen, and the majority of people in Darwin don't even like dirt bikes, they prefer atvs and utvs.
The ideal spot would be around Gold coast - Sunshine coast Queensland. Perfect weather, amazing tourism and it would sell out.
Ha! You think these guys haven’t operated in some dodgy areas before? The bikes aren’t going to be locked up in a backyard shed.
All good points about SE QLD - except there is no suitable anywhere in the region. But apart from that…
my question is does the track get torn down? Or will it remain to be used
It takes the gov taking motorsport seriously… QLD is a rugby state and they have the Olympics coming up so no chance for at least a decade.
Sydney has all the things. Victoria has the F1, MotoGP and AusX. Perth could be an option but is even further from the rest of Australia than Darwin and the landscape around Perth is boring and flat and ugly as hell.
To me, Darwin to Adelaide are the only logical options, with govs that seem to support motorsport. But Adelaide’s national MX track, Gillman, is a joke from a MotoGP standard. And there’s nothing else decent anywhere close to Adelaide or that would draw a crowd…
So really, Darwin is the best choice and it makes sense.
I’m in Melbourne and devo I can’t make it up there but it makes the most sense.
Not sure if the Australian EMX250 riders like Owens and Cannon will line up in MX2? Or maybe Alexanderson?
