My son and I raced today, total including camping: $60.00! I had over 3 hours of run time on my bike today, my son put 3.5 on his 110. Definitely best bang for your dollar racing there is!

You had to ride in the woods though.

There was a good portion of grass track as well.

Harescambles are great for people that like riding their bikes!

Not so great if your priority is to keep your bike shiny and new.

The FMHSC this weekend was solid! Didn't have my best day but those grass track sections kept it fun every lap! I'm not the most technically gifted rider so the A/B lines kept me on my toes.

The bikes definitely lose that show room shine faster than in mx. Although if you ran 2 hours a week on an mx track I don’t know if the bike would look any better. I think hare scramble racing is easier on the engine at least on the east coast. That western US wide open stuff might be rough on internal parts.

I like them because you know what time your race is and you only need to show up a 1/2 hour before it. Oh and it’s much easier to get a hole shot at a harescramble than a mx race 😂

The climbs are where I do most of my passes! There was one downhill though every lap I thought "I don't really want to do that again" 😂

You must be on a YZ250.
One time I left my bike running and still didn't get the holeshot 🤣

I gave up MX when my knees couldn't take the constant "up/down" anymore.  I still had the Jones so I tried HS and never looked back.  The most fun I ever had.  The Forward Motion series is first class.  Good people and great tracks.

Would love to race one.  Too bad they are so long.  I am a 4 lap at a time vet track guy.  No way I could last even close to 2 hours.

You only have to go fast in the open / spectator areas. Once you get on the backside everyone takes a break.

Challenge yourself to do 3 of them and I bet you surprise yourself.

The body adapts fast.

My first 2 I thought I was going to die with how much arm pump and how out of shape I felt.

3rd race I felt a little bit better.

By your 5th race it’s game on.

I got a dual sport bike 2 years ago, began riding some woods and joined a dual sport club. Went on some rides with guys from the club, grey haired dudes were dropping me like a bad habit in the woods. Get to a sandy whooped out section or grass track and I could gap them. End of last year got a 300 woods bike and began keeping up better, and this year tried my first hare scramble. Racing +50 class, thankfully they are a little easier on us old guys, the first two were only an hour long, the last one was 1.5. That extra 1/2 hour hit me…not sure I’m ready for the 2 hour events…

Bucket list item for me is to one of these days do a road trip back there and do a couple of those races. The look like so much fun!

I’d love to race a hair HS but I’ve never been able to make a lot of laps.  Even younger when I raced may hands and arms pumped quick.  HS and enduros way to long for this old man!

Give it a shot, I thought the same. It’s different from moto where you don’t sprint as fast and you have areas where you can shake your hands out and rest a little. Grab a camelback and pace yourself and just have a goal of finishing and of course having fun

Moto is for kids and pros, offroad is for the rest of life

Everything said in this post is true. I rarely see that on the internet. Off-road racing is quick growing segment of this sport for a good reason.

100%. First goal is to just finish, then try to go fast.  Usually I am hating life the first lap or so but I get into a groove after that and its a total blast.
