What's that mean for all the guys who haven't won a 450 SX main or a 450 outdoor moto this season? Retirement as well?

Steve complains about alot of little things - that's part of his persona like it or hate it but most complaints are funny or interesting. When he complained about fireworks going on for too long, nobody heard "too long". They heard what they wanted to hear "from a liberal" and attacked his patriotism. I just hear an old guy like me complaining about noise. It just happened to be fireworks and Steve isn't conservative so he got blasted.

This is accurate.  It's the same thing as the flag waving that ol' @971_Fan has his panties in a bunch over, it's not as cut and dry as the Deegans Vital PR Manager wants it to be.

Our society is so full of folks just looking to get outraged as quickly as possible that they refuse to see and hear the whole situation, they are just looking for the things that trigger them.

We're all probably a little guilty of that in this day and age unfortunately.

This can be cleared up. The Princess has since apologized to Dazzy over the Washougal flag waving incident. He specifically admitted he'd put Haiden up to it in order to drum up 'patriotic' hostility toward the Lawrences so as to put Hunta off his game. It clearly didn't work and is one of the reasons the Lawrences have a special disdain for the Deegans. 971's narrative that the flag waving was just a gleeful spontaneous celebration of Haiden's love for America is just not true. Nothing The Princess does is spontaneous - except some of his eruptions over 971's happy face....

He’s one of the fastest 450 riders in the world. I hope he goes for at least two more seasons.

Eli Tomac is not just one of the guys in the class. He is paid to win races and championships and has those expectations himself. If he starts being consistently beaten in SX as well, he'll retire. Eli is now well and truly living in the Weege Theory - able to win on occasion when everything goes his way, but not a consistent threat as previously. If people still haven't realized, the sport has moved into a new era, Eli is from the previous one.

So everyone other than Jett, Deegan and maybe Chase should stop racing?

This is a bad take. Steve has an issue (as do I) with Deegan cosplaying Captain America during the season and then making excuses not to race MXoN for Team USA for 2 years in a row. I don’t mind when guys opt out of racing MXoN for a variety of wide known reasons that they do, but don’t claim to bleed Red, White, and Blue and then duck the biggest international race that our sport has.

In my eyes, Deegs waived the flag to divided fans against the Aussies… it’s all antics for clicks and I just feel like it’s lame as shit.

That's a very poor take. Very poor. Steve was crying about the flag waving and crowd chanting USA 2 days later on pulpmx, long before the team was announced.

It was also Haiden's rookie season, his first 1-1 in a national (the first 1-1 that season in the 250 class), so the kid can be happy about it and wave the flag. The Aussies brothers were cleaning up, and Deegan gets a win which injected a bit of patriotism into the crowd, especially when that awesome Stars and Stripes was raised up. That wasn't to divide fans. Another poor take on your part. Very poor. It was to celebrate the very heart of competition, which is to win.

Both times Deegan didn't go, his reasons were legitimate. Perfectly legitimate. Only losers don't accept that. If it had been any other racer, people would have a different tune.

I swear people (looking at you 971) are not reading or listening to anything…they’re just guessing? And reposting whatever they think was maybe possibly said? Maybe?  The ability to translate info unbiased is important lol

Zero evidence for what your saying. And please don’t use what Matthes said because it’s what he heard, and that’s called hearsay.

Brian never said that and neither did Dazzy.

No, of course not. My point is Eli himself has always said he has no interest in racing if he is not a threat for consistent wins and championships.

Yes, I agree. Except for the part that you edited to point the finger at me.  Which is why I go with what we do know as opposed to hearsay, or he said/she said bs. Too much speculation.

You should change your username to biasedundecover.

A observer of facts would follow the evidence. So the claim that Deegan waved that flag to divide the fans that made (which is the post I was replying to). Where is the evidence for that claim?

Clearly he believes he can be those things the next two years or he wouldn't have signed with KTM. He's earned the right to give it a shot.

Zero evidence of the Dazza incident. Former Star Racing’s Jeremy Coker said in 2023 they would not send Deegan because the team was not strong and the expense could not be justified. That straight from the horse’s mouth.

Last season Deegan had surgery, which involved scheduling, heal time, rehab, etc.

The only response to either of those perfectly legitimate reasons from the doubters boils down to skepticism, not any decent evidence

And then they supported riders with even less chance of success, it was lip service to protect their rider. He was riding shortly after ”the surgery” and could’ve easily been delayed until after the race. Yes he had excuses but if he WANTED to he could’ve raced. Did he owe it to anyone? Nope, it’s his choice. But it’s also the choice of fans to call him out on his hypocrisy. There is evidence of the conversation between Brian and Dazzy, notice how Brian has said many things about Steve but has never called him a liar about reporting on that conversation??

I like pulp and we generally will listen to it on the way to and from the track. I think Steve ultimately has done some good things for the sport. I agree with Steve on a lot of his takes on moto, disagree heavily on politics but whatever.  One thing is certain though, he seems to constantly be the center of some kind of drama.

He’s the center of attention because he’s one of the few if not only, moto media guy who voices his opinion instead of sucking up to everyone else.

Top 10 450 riders still make more money than most Americans... I'd do it as long as possible. At home with the family all week, race on weekends, paid to be in shape and eat healthy. Total dream job.

This thread has the potential for the 2 biggest asshole vitalmx forum members to go head to head. Down vote king vs down vote king.

It's shapping up. Let's see how this plays out.

What supported riders with even less of a chance?  Going back to 2015, the best case you could make would be 2019 with Zach Osbourne, Anderson and Justin Cooper.  Even at that, it could argued that Star learned their lesson; they won't fun a team that doesn't have a decent chance at a good result. 2015 legitimate shot at a podium. Same with 2016.  2017 no Star rider. 2018 AP went and they had a decent shot. 2020 and 21 USA did not participate.  2022 won. 2023 didn't have a legit shot.

Saying it is lip service to protect Deegan is your opinion, not anything the evidence supports.

Also, just because Brian said nothing about a supposed conversation between him and Dazza is not evidence that the conversation happened.

Why do so many people care if a rider likes or dislikes a media guy? Never understood that.

I mean….  to put on my UFC podcasting fight analysis hat on , even tho I think Eli’s titles days are up with this new gen of racing athletes just surpassing him based on sports evolution, OBJECTIVELY UNBIASEDLY NO‼️, Eli should keep plugging away cause hes still racing at a top 5 lvl , the moment Eli start battling around like 12th to 21st on a weekly basis , basically how reedy was towards his last SX run then yea thts when Eli gotta call it quits

Weird thing is in SX he's never looked as good as he did this year.  Came out at pala and matched Jett after 2 whole seasons off and missing SX.  I think he’s unhappy with the bike, his performances are reminiscent of his last couple years on Kawi.  If they’re STILL searching for a setup this far into the season i think that tells us all we need to know.  With that said I do think Jett and Chase are a tick faster atm, but it’s hard to get to that next level when you’re fighting with the bike.

You're out of your tree if you think Eli has never looked better in sx as he did this year. '17? '20? After the Ironman race finshed, Peacock started autoplaying the 2nd moto at Pala. I really see that moto with different eyes now. Everyone was all juiced up thinking Eli was going to match Jett this summer. That wasn't the Jett we are seeing now. That was Jett a couple months off ACL surgery. Stop with the bike excuses. Hes no match for Jett and hes certainly not going to be as he continues to age
