Anyway, one of my falls kinked the throttle cable. I went to the pit area and messed with it and was riding back in forth in the pit area to test it. I thought that I'd got it working smoothly...that is until I nailed the throttle and it stuck wide open! I pushed the kill button in vain, then stood on the rear brake and grabbed too much front brake, went down hard, tumbled forever and finally slid to a stop right next to 'stedt and his bright red factory Honda. He looked down at me, laughed, nodded his head and commented, "You shoulda grabbed the clutch."
Ya think?

Thanks for the picture ID's Tom... Not sure where Bob is these days... My brother runs into his brother David once and awhile... After Bob broke his leg and lost his edge he kind of just disappeared... Funny thing about those pictures is that I don't remember Bob riding CZ's... I remember him terrorizing the neighborhood on his Hodaka Super Rat and then his beautiful Yamahas... Those Yamaha's were so trick for the day... Don't know if you know Skip or Barry Porter??? They both raced Bultaco’s at Saddleback and won a lot of races at other So Cal tracks... Also Jeff Clark Barnett’s mechanic lived in the neighborhood for a year or so... We all grew up in a little housing track (about 30 houses) surrounded by orange/avocado groves with lots of tracks so everyone had bikes and raced... Skip, Barry, Jeff, Rick Ash and others would all race around practicing and all us kids would stand around in awe watching them duke it out… Great times… L8R Mark
Rex Staten was almost certain to win aboard his #78? CZ at Saddleback.
LawBrkrRcn- Mark it appears that I visited the moto guys in your old neighborhood in Orange. Dave Miller and I went over to Bob Stem's house and ofcourse knew others like Jeff Clark, "Hodaka Bud" Ken Welford and Tim Morgan.
