Dang I remember those names and watching them. Larry McGavran would freak me out as a kid and eat raw ground beef with some salt on it in front of me lol
Norcal 1980's: Sears Point, Marysville, Dixon, Hangtown. Marysville, now E Street, was the sandy rough track up North. Fun tracks!
I just missed out on Baylands Raceway in Fremont California, the PAL track in Santa Clara, and the hayday of Sandhill Ranch in Brentwood. I guess Club Moto in Livermore was my home track but by the time it opened I was already in my 20s. Prior to that my buddy and I would drive up from the Bay Area to Sacramento Raceway for the Friday Night events (RIP Sac Raceway).
Friday Nights with CMC at Ascot!
Although I only raced there from '87 through their last race in November of '90, that place was where I found my love for motocross! It felt so cool racing under the lights, on that greasy old clay! The smell of the pre-mix race fuel and fresh baked donuts at the grand stand concession area. We had a good crew that we parked with at every race, including the Faulkers, would would eventually start PAX Racing. I remember one night being told by my dad that this Daniel Blair kid from up North was in town and that he was really fast, and I should try to run with him if I could. Ascot was a special place, and the locals definitely had an advantage. I ended up besting Daniel that night and I remember thinking I was some kind of 50cc pro! Not long after we crossed paths again at Sunrise, and he absolutely smoked me! That definitely humbled me!. Another notable that would often show up for races was Justin Buckelew, although he always got the better of me. I'm sure there were others, but those are the two that come to mind right now. I sure do miss that place a lot, and think about it often. It's crazy how a place that was such a short part of my life, has had such a lasting impact. Man, what I would give for one more Friday night under the lights at Ascot!

Hey, we were there also. I seem to even remember a few Tuesday night "mini" night practices. The Bremen/Calhoun EVERY sat night race. A few 4 stroke nationals. Some LLQ's featuring lots of yesteryears talents (izzi, osbourne, tickle, bowers, etc). While we had a track 3 miles from the house (Big Cedar) Bremen was always where we went to practice/race.
Raced there a lot in the mid-70's when it was called "The Pit" and then again in the early 80's once the name changed. Always enjoyed that track!
Meeting Broc Glover at Saddleback in the 80s during a mid week practice. I stood by the side of the track with a sharpie and a hat. He came flying by, brake slid to a stop, signed my hat. We spoke for a few minutes before he took off. Coolest dude 👍 I still have the hat.
Getting roosted by Bones on his Maico 490 in practice at OCIR on Thursday nights back in the 80s. That shit hurt😆

Wednesday nights at Ascot and Thursday nights at OCIR were awesome but getting out of school early to go to Friday night at Indian Dunes with my Dad were the best . We would get there early to practice on the shadow glen track then hanging out up by the mini track in the grass and watch them groom the international track waiting for practice to start and for the snack bar to open to get some hot dogs . Just hanging out with all the cool people we would meet and watching the races till midnight . Some of the best times of my life .
The smell of yamalube 2R an cam2 at White Oak mx in Fredericksburg Va
Indian Dunes. My first race there on a Friday night in 1977 on a Maico 400. A few weeks later I got my first win at the same track. Raced there up until it closed. I sure missed it after it was gone.
Sears Point wow I heard the hills were huge? Can you tell us a bit about that track.I think most guys here have never heard about it, would be cool to let us in on that track.
For me it is almost any weekend at Baja Acres. I had my first ever race there and for all practical purposes my last. I have so many memories there. Races won, races, lost, concussions, camping, drinking one too many beers by the campfire 🔥 on Saturday night. It's where I qualified to go to Loretta's the one time I went. There were a couple other D14 tracks I loved but Baja was my home
Midland TX Motocross Track - won my first race in ‘96, got credit at the local shop (choice of a trophy or $ credit). Also the wind blew me sideways over a jump several times. Won on my bone stock ‘95 KX125 (that I bought new in 96).
Another Ascot local here. Many good race memories , but my best memory is the one of my friend Devon pulling into the pits with these two fine looking girls sitting double on his bike in the back of his El Camino. One of those fine looking girls was attracted to me , and still is. Next May will be 45 years. She is still as cool as she was back then , and never says no when I tell her that I need a new bike. Good thing I quit traditional sports and got into riding dirt bikes. Otherwise I wouldn’t have met her.
That's awesome ! ....Girls, riding on a dirtbike in the back of an El Camino....... that's keeper material right there well done !
Having Dennis Jonon fly over me when he was on a KX 65 and I was on a 250 at Challenge Trax in Kingsville, MO. The other was seeing Brian Deegan and I think Denny Stephenson (might have been someone else) show up in a box van Agency MX (somewhere in Missouri) and just fly around the track. It was well before the Metal Mulisha days.
Pit Row
Elsinore. Specifically the super Saturday race series by real sports back in the day. So many fast guys used to come out to that. Sleeter and Justin Keeny were regulars, the Alessis would show up, couple Japanese guys even raced a few of them. Even if it wasn’t a race weekend that place was always packed with fast guys. Elsinore used to be a Bitchin track. After the hiners lost it it was never the same
I used to ride at Agency a lot. It’s north of KC about 45 mins.
I loved that place. I think its long gone. I grew up in Kansas, but haven't lived there for over 25 years.
What year did you go to Lorettas motomike? I haven't raced Baja since the 90's.
Steve Lamson showing up to a local Fernely NV race on a Husqvarna in 2001 and waxing everyone. I think it was a cr125 but it may have been a 250. I remember he was super nice too.
VPs Leap.
