Looks like we have Gary Ogden in the house! Yes, you frequented OCIR more than Ascot and raced against talented riders like Bruce Baron, Dave Carlson, Morris Malone and others. I caught you here in action on the #C7 bike that you rode for Escondido Suzuki. This very picture was on my display at OCIR.

Damn, Og . How did you get the Suzuki shop to sponsor you on a 400 Yamaha?Laughing

Well project how about a Can-Am! In those days I'd ride anything someone would give me. Oh and look who took the photo Silly . Tom was definitely the man with the camera, you must have a warehouse full of this stuff. Glad to see you're still keeping it alive. Thanks!

Tim Lunde played a big part in CMC Motocross racing at Ascot.
I remember Tim won a lot until Todd started winning. I remember a few nights when Todd beat Tim, Tim would just throw his bike in the back of his mini truck and just tear out of the pit area all pissed off.

I remember metco. that was who sponsered chuck bower, mcdougal, laporte, and garret. I remember the owner. can't think of his name rt. now. a friend of mine bought a monark from him. those penton's of mcdougal's and bower's were fast. as bad as those sach's motor's missed shift's mcdougal and bower rarely misshifted. they had a deliberate and smooth way of shifting. their technique paid off as they were rarely beaten.

ascot was so-cal party mx at it's best. all those names. let's see: what about ray lopez, billy payne, joe johnston, desoto, the messer's,tim hart. do you remember hart on the org. montesa w/balloons taped to his helmet? how about the inter-am in 71 at ascot. ake jonsson, hallman, aberg, arne kring. wow, now that's memory lane. I don't care what anybody say's, the races today can't hold a candle to the races back then.

Lenny, did you ever sneak into the place from the river channel?

We always did and I remember a few times some "brothers" would jump the fence with us and we would all run like hell into the pits.
yep, the pond that split and the track ran thru the middle of it. duck's and all. I also remember lion's. bill "candy man" hershey, desoto(ron and john). does anybody remember the color of ron desoto's leathers? also bob & luke messer. I remember tim hart dragging his knee around the turn leading into the front main straight. back to ascot. it was the #1 nite track in the day.

Well it's about time that we have a picture of Dave Pessy on here. Actually Dave was best known for riding his Ossa.

Here is a pic of me racing my TM400 at Ascot in 1972. I didn't know that the bike had suck handling so I had fun anyway. The Curnutt rear shocks helped a lot. The photo was taken by Photos by "Buzz" of Santa Ana. I have not been able to locate him to see if he has any more photos.

Pete Murray takes the lead in the 250 Pro class.

Bigfoot -- Dave Miller was on a 1977 Suzuki that had stock forks and a Yamaha fender.

Thank you Tom. The TM tank on Miller's bike threw me a bit...that and the down-pipe Hondas had me thinking the shot was earlier than '77.

Team Mettco. owned by Fred Hayes. sponsered MacDougal, Garret, LaPorte. don't forget Chuck Bowers. as bad as Sach's motor's shifted, I never saw MacDougal or Bowers miss a shift. Bowers was really fast. he had a stranglehold on the CMC ckt. kinda like Marty Smith after him.

That's the girl that Bill Boyer and I used to fought over.
If any girls got too clingy Bill would tell them they're interfering with his racing, and he'd dump em! (Smooth)
Memories!
you can find her at Speedway...

Chris, saw this today out of the blue. Yeah those were the days. My crew was the Omectins and we hung with Mike Nishita and his dad. Remember Rodney Davidson and his tuxedo jersey? I remember quite a bit about that place including the Vitali story I read below. I remember that Todd Davidson was king until Warren Reid showed up one night and smoked him. But Todd did hole shot a heat race at Anaheim in 80' or so. Led for a lap or two. I've seen Gary Jones a few times since those days when he rode his AMMEX, he's around still. I remember thinking that I wish those old guys would quit complaining to Stu about starting early because they were still at work, known what they meant for many years now. Still riding, was at Glen Helen all weekend. Still visit Foster's too once in a while. No more free ice cream! #445 Dan Matis

Ron Turner and Stu Peters were at Perris Raceway for round two of the Trans-Cal. The next race will be October 17 at Racetown in Adelanto. I will be there with camera in hand.

Hey,
I've lost track of all but a few guys that I've managed to stay in touch with. I haven't really kept up. (Marriage, kids, work, etc) What happened to all of the old ascot motocross racers. Dale Lewis, (Sold me his Maico 450 Magnum - see my profile photo), Todd Petersen, Tim Lunde. And how about my fellow 125 Junior class buddies? Danny Matis, (I miss the free ice cream at Fosters Freeze) Paul Ellis, (Paul, remember when I passed you and asked you later if you were sick? You said no, I was just going faster than you - Paul was fast). Phil Lemmons, Mike Lentini, Steve Rawlinson, Mark Sager (Sorry about the time I used you for a jump Mark)
I heard Donnie Luce was a team manager at Yamaha now. Cool.
I remember Dickie McMillan cherry picking in our class. At the time he was as fast as the experts. And what about Bill Boyer? Bill and I used to fight over girls in high school. Hey Bill, remember "Mary Ann Clemens?" :-) Feel free to post any info you may have.
Thanks!
Chris / 36R
I think he means Todd Peterson. It was actually 82, and he pulled the holeshot, and led the race to the end. He beat Marty tripes and transfered to the main. That was cool!
