Yes. It was def more "real". If that makes any sense? People gave no shits about the material items and just raced motorcycles.

No social media "box checking" items (Shit like Yeti coolers, croc charms and $80k Toyotas), People were actually UNIQUE and not a bunch of clones, they drove junk custom race vans, ran vented number plates and duct taped everything. There was actual protection for your fingers in gloves and even collecting stickers and T-shirts meant something more because not every Larry had a sticker printer... I could go on and on.

I personally think the internet killed a lot of individual creativity in the last 25 years. It's sad when you think about it... because if many were shown the 80-90's most all would agree it was "more real and alive" than what we have nowadays.

My worthless $0.02

Dude spot on! Well said, I have a monster of a sticker collection to this day because of the 90’s sticker scarcity.🤣

As fans,  we get to witness two of the most evolved riding styles to date. Watching Jett and Chase are like watching the future of our sport, and you just have to sit back and wonder how the hell are they going to go any faster.

Then you have Deegs, he’s like watching a stronger, more complex version of RC.

Not trying to pick a fight with you youngsters, but if you can, just imagine a time when each new year brought a completely different evolution of bikes, and those bikes came from DKW, Penton, Monark, Ducati, BSA, Bultaco, Maico, CZ, AJS, Hodaka, Rickman-Metisse, CCM, Montesa, Greeves, Ancilotti, SWM, Carabela, Puch, and Husqvarna - NOT TO MENTION Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. Motocross in the 1970s was exotic and revolutionary on a scale you guys cannot imagine, because you all think of 1970s bikes as hoffifically primitive antiques. Well, I was there when they were all brand new and shiny, and so I know for a fact there's never been anything to match the wild upheaval and revolutionary vibrancy of that era. Not by a long measure. The 90s were amazing in their own right (as is current day), but the "peak" of motocross? I don't think so. Consider this: in the 70s, you could make a track on pretty much any vacant land regardless of who owned it and nobody bitched, let alone kicked you off - and huge parcels of vacant land were everywhere - even in California. Can you even imagine that? All I'm really saying is, don't be too quick to belittle the sport's early history, for to undervalue it would be a shame. Peace out.

90’s were the peak of civilization as far as I’m concerned.

The life style and the mind set of mx and SX in the 90’s was just peak at least for me. We had awesome music the birth of free riding/freestyle all the killer movies like Crusty’s we had the King and the the gear oh man and the custom painted helmets! Loved it.

I’m sure 70’s moto was cool but man I tried to ride those bikes from back then the 3 inches of travel just wasn’t for me.😆

I'm sure most people your age might agree with you about the 70's, but the bikes just weren't there yet like they were in the 90's.  Also, the 90's were a decade of great moto movies, and you had MC bringing Supercross into the spot light.

My go to jersey is a 93 fox it’s super soft cotton. I cut slits with a razor to get air in but lap 2 it’s soaked.  90,s Mx was fun sand pits, etc all ovr yown. I ride the same ama  mx track I did since 1990 . We had 4or 5 full gates of 125 c in 98 , 2 of 125b , 125A full.  It’s non ama  now more of a Euro track round table tops, more lanes on the hills. Worked its good clay yrs ago wood chips mixed in loam.  It rained all Fri night into sat morning. I figured they wouldn’t race 12.00 the sun was going to shine & we would open ride at 3.  I get there last practice is about ovr. So I signed up & raced I never looked at the track either.  I had a bad reaction from a wed injection & nerve in back pinched hard .  A ton of injection lately & today at the hospital.  I did that in the 90,s fly home from rig job only 3 days off. No riding for months just sign up & race .  Sat I wore my 98 Shift pants with a TLD 09 jersey . 2nd moto there was some hardpack the pants are good for not getting rd rash.  I actually got new gear moose  Apha white, yellow.  Purple. I wore that jersey but not the pants . I didn’t want to get them dirty . Haha .  Helmet is a 09 fox I like the fit & the visor  , sweat runs out when u take it off.  I would’ve stayed with my 98 Shoei but mice ate the foam .

Those under a certain ( old ) age just can't understand & it'd be unfair to expect them to.

Agreed though .. for those with a perspective that goes back all those decades, theres no doubt that the period from the early seventies thru about the mid eighties were unmatched as we witnessed the radical evolution of the modern bike & the sport in general, a handful of riders became international stars still mentioned today .. all through the lens of Dirt bike Magazine, MXA & Cycle News.

The whole vibe during the period just seemed far more organic & genuine than anything experienced since, truly a 'you had to be there to fully get it' kinda thing.
90's big hair & wild colors were Ok too ..

I remember Roncada & his mom sitting at a table outside the Honda of Troy rig . Speaking French she was cutting holes in his jersey at 97 Gainsville .  He was a little nervous about the heat . She went to town cutting slits . I saw him

At red Bud again he went down on the start .  Wo just railing the corners up top in the double double area . I was like whoa that dude is fast . Swink doing can cans off larorros leap on rm250.

My 1st race was in 1976, but I must say, I think the 90's were some of the best times for moto. Such great times with tracks everywhere in Ca.

I need to look for more pics, but this was the day after A1 1991.

"Oh, it has less drag blablabla" dont care, bring back baggy jerseys

Its the durability of the gear for me that really sells me on it.  Not to mention the colorways were  done so well.  Didnt matter if it was Fox, Thor or No  Fear, the pants from that era were as durable as anything.  Still have multiple pairs from No Fear and Thor, Ive been riding with for the last 7 years. Gear today will never last that long

Loved those 91-92s. The 250 turned almost as good as- like a bigger 125.

G9 garage did an awesome build of a 92 RM 250 on youtube. Really helped me out tremendously.  The only thing different is the displacement.  Everything goes back together the same

I would say the best era was probably around 1997-2004, the racing was good, the technology was evolving fast, free style moto-X was at its peak, the Xgames were a big deal, and there was actually a real life culture.

The 91 Japan works bike was a rocket ship . American journalists flew there & tested it .  It had a double boost port .  When they tested the consumer bike it was no where near as fast . They pulled the topend to check the pv etc.  and there was no DBP . Suzuki said casting issues , etc.  I bought a new 92 & yes they cornered great . Real quick with a pc pipe power Very fun to ride bike.  My DBP is coming along I changed needles, shock spring .  I tried 12 diff styles on the inside deep sand rollers on the sc track. My fav was brake tap threw the rollers in a sand corner to get the down side then wo with clutch snap seat bounce pitch the bike left . Take the exit offf & land past the exit rollers . 100% Fox video move .   Bike is lethal in tight stuff soo quick I pulled new yzf250, 450,s.
