Fast locals to look out for at The Wick

For those of us who aren’t from the area, who should we be keeping an eye on to pull some fast laps this weekend?

Josh Toth just won Snowshoe Yesterday, trying to qualify at Southwick Saturday, then is hopping on a plane after the race and racing the National Enduro in Ohio Sunday.

Unfortunately the days of Henry, Dowd, Keller and a whole host of other local riders finishing top 10, top 5 and even winning seem to be over for now. Sand is not the great separater that it used to be. New England based riders are as isolated from the national scene as they've rver been, maybe even moreso. New England really needs some new heroes to get back like before. 53 year old Tony Lorusso is considering an attempt at qualifying. See what I mean?

All three of those guys were winning and on the podium at many other MX races outside of Southwick. There are tons of locals that are still hovering around the top 20 at the Wick.

James Harrington, Justin Cokinos, Josh Toth, Kyle Murdoch etc etc. Just look at the Vault from last year.

Canning was in the top 10 just a couple of years ago.

Murdoch is ripping. I'd say he finishes the best. Don't see any of them near the top 10 though

I watched moto 1 of southwick last night on YouTube and he got around a top 3 start and ran up front most of the race finishing just outside the top 10. He was the real deal.

Also Eli came from way back in he race and won. He was FLYING. Got me pumped for this weekend.

2022 for me. So it’s safe to bet he will be scoring points this weekend. I just looked up results form 24 and he didn’t race. Wonder why.

Keith Johnson's son in law, helps with many things around Southwick and comes to Florida (Sunshine State MX) to put on camps during the winter.

Unfortunately the racing scene up here in the Northeast isn't what it used to be. We have too many series (NESC,NEMX, NCSC and Maine Moto) that coupled with being able to pay to go practice at all these nice groomed facilities has really knocked down rider turnout at races. People just aren't racing, they pay their $50 ride all day and don't have to wait around for moto's all day. I wish I knew the answer to fix it but it's a real problem.

Bummed I can’t go this year, tariffs, a raging bull market, the devalued yen and, a lesser desire for frappes and grinders, renders me lined up for Red Buddery, yet no Sandwick. Run and tell the others.

Looks like Canning is really going in on training riders, Canningmx.com. Dont think he'll be racing Southwick since he mopped up everyone at the Ironman regional qualifying for LL. 25+ he went 1-1-1 and Open Pro he went 3-1-1

I lived in Pittsfield,NH. In 88 tree trimming for Asplundh.  Worked for a painter on weekends up north.  Sad to hear the low turnouts , 50 to ride ouch .  It’s 10 on wed , Thurs-sun 20 Real deep sand track threw the woods, with hills,  countless trails, few acre sand bowl, etc.  Double header sand race in Wi.  With high temps of 45 had 26 in 125 class real cold weeks b4 the race .  Some riders travel to iL.  Or the se training camps to ride.  30a gets 14 at some tracks I think that’s high for the current scene .  I don’t think a Wi. Rider is going that far rt now to loose money. And 1 got screwed his time had him in but he wasn’t in. He raced the Nationals for about 10 yrs . They can make more in 25,30a & the pro ams.   Local buisnesses here kick 5-18k + to 125 riders.  Racing here is more important than pro racing .

Prof, my family was from there - had a farm in Pittsfield from like 1710 until 1983. You are on the only person on this planet that I (sort of) know that has ever mentioned that town. I assume you are talking about the town that is in Mid State NH, not the one all the way up at the top that is called Pittsburg, New Hampshire?

No I trimmed trees in 88 for  Asplundh then on weekends I worked for a painter on new condos up north.  I rented a room out of a house on the river . Got permission to use a canoe & caught fish & ate them .  When I got off the bus I walked to a restaurant & said to a cute waitress. I just got off the bus & need a place to live.  She asked out loud & got a phone # for a landlord , called him & got directions & walked there.  I took that girl for canoe rides I,d hv her fish or troll.  It was fun until the weed dried up in town & a guy thought his chic wanted me. He started a rumor that I was a fbi undercover. Haha. I was 19 that sucked then the town ganged up on me. I even showed them my paper work for mmi . Then Asplundh said I had to move to Boston. I was thinking big money only .60 more.  I said what happened to the 3 yrs of work here ?  He got cocky & I told him thx for lying to me . My last day the dick from Ct. I worked with says I,m not going back to town , walk.  After a 10 hr day with my lunch box & water jug  I say come on man it’s 60 miles.  I was soo pissed no houses no cars in the boonies to hitch hike .  I jumped up & punch a sign & tore my hand open now I,m bleeding bad. Thinking when I get to a busier rd who’s gonna pu me up bleeding.  I probably walked 30 miles a old guy picked me up . I worked full time painting then the boss from nyc just wanted to hang at a buddies pad & smoke weed . I wasn’t making much so I left . A couple people apologized for being soo mean.  1 gave me a ride to a bus station & said go to s. Phily you can make fast cash.  So I did I get off the bus & say to a guy in a real nice suit . That I just got off the bus I need a job & a room .  They like run aways I just did odd jobs unload trucks , look out , get gambling stuff setup .  I was afraid they,d make me high jack a semi & I was dating there daughters & other girls .  After 2 1/2 weeks I left I used a alias name.  My dad got hurt on the farm so I moved back . I didn’t know him so I figured I,d do that . It was 100 acre cabbage farm. Get up at 4am & work till 9pm I thought he was going to pay me but didn’t. I worked with migrant workers cutting cabbage. The barn was full ld semis up , del to grocery stores etc .  I had to do all the bull work.  So I got a 3-11 job to hv cash & to get away from him he’s Real abusive . I only had enough money when I came back to buy a car & a little cash. He healed up & I was tired of being his slave. Got another job with  Asplundh in charlotte. I was only there a week I thought it would be like everywhere else rent a room or a tiny apartment . You hv to sign a lease I thought the town sucked & did not want to live there.still trying to raise money for mmi school in Orlando . Moved back to the farm that sucked . Repeat of everything I was soo determined to get a good job. I applied with the pipeline co & was hired to clear 15 miles of trees.  Dozens of divisions I saw opportunities.  Unfortunately the biggest co in America would not pay our union wages. 90-95 a Hot French chic kept me from riding we only got 3 1/2 days off a month tho. But I did good 95 was my best yr & I should’ve quit.  96 wotc was passed & I was a 1 man crew . A few big surgeries & I left in 98 with a broken back. I paid 50 mil to organized crime to end a Huge union strike to get our drill rig stuff out of the Phily airport property & 250k a week in 94. . I  worked him for money & with my work checks I had 200k in my savings . I blew that on back yrs later.  . Still dealing with that constant apts injections a total of aprox 2,500 needles in me since 96. And I Hate needles .   So any rider traveling to a National gets all my respect. Go on a journey to loose money . My back has my leg & knee in so much pain . I can’t even put wt on it 6 weeks of 7 days a week of pt , then it goes backwards . It w as getting a little better.  Last week I did intense speed sit-ups & tried to get my legs stronger.   Injection guy is booked then he’s taking a 2 week vacation.  This takes me welll into July for injections .
