To quote Stefan Everts in response to JS saying he backed off for the team.

"It's a pity Ricky Carmichael wasn't riding as I'm sured he would have raced for the win!"

Applies to Peelout as well, if you think RC was riding as well he was capable of you are smoking too much of the RV weed.
Did you forget that RC had won all 6 events he competed in that year (back when bubba was a racer).

I won't say that RVs 07 Budds Creek ride was the best MXdN performance ever because i was born in 83' and don't remember/wasn't alive for some aformentioned performances. However, If i'm not mistaked it is the only time ever the overall winner has came out of the mx2 spot. He killed it completely, nobody problably even thought there was a possibility of him winning both his motos

Regardless, watch the video, compare it to his riding in other races. There is a huge difference. It is not the same RC.

RC even apologized for not performing as well as he was capable of. EBV was mentioned as a possible cause of his lackluster riding that day.

What was Stefan's excuse for getting beat by RC in front of his home crowd in 2003?

I thought Team Euro and Mccread destroyed all the negatives to claim it never happened.

On a side note RC did get his knee fixed right after that. He said it popped out 2-3 times during that race.
RC's antics still leave my jaw hangin open and my head shakin. A bigger moto badass shall never inhabit the planet.

Yeah, I also forgot that RC raced that event with Esptien Bar! Crashed lap 1 and came from pretty much dead last up to 3rd and even almost got Reed on the last lap! Even won the 3rd moto. He didnt know he had Epstien Bar until a few days later.

I'm pretty sure there was NO EXCUSE required by anyone who was beaten by RC...virtually everyone on the gate knew they were racing for second place.

How about when RC smoked everyone including Everts by 11 seconds on his little 2-smoker in the sand in Belgium in 2003? Everts was on his factory Yamaha 4-stroke in his own country. I thought Everts was the sand king, especially in his own country in front of his King? I guess there is a reason RC is called the GOAT.

Amazing ride by Ricky but to be fair that's not a real sand track. I doubt it would have made much difference though. Tortelli beat Everts at that track in 2006 first moto... Tortelli. Just another European GP track built on the side of race car track so they can use the parking lots and facilities. Wait until 2012 to see how fast we are against the Europeans in the sand. I still say we win but not necessarily the overall in every class. I for one am glad they have quit making those infield race tracks. They look how they ride, terrible.

It's kind of a forgotten one, but Pit Beirer absolutely wasted everybody in 1997, in both of his motos. Everts, Emig, and Dowd were all at the top of their games that year but Pit annihilated them. He's not a US guy but it was super dominant.

It was also one of the worst ever finishes for the US, just a year after one of their most dominant ones. The MXDN is such a unique event...there's always surprises.

Best US performance (excluding Magoo)... I'd say DB 1986.

A lot of that was due to the stupid start gate positioning. Ryan was on another level that day. I don't know if Ricky could have chased him down without his fall.

How about Emig riding a 2 year old Factory KX500 in that race and still cleaning up the class?

Johny Omara. 1986. Italy. A 125 two stroke vs 500cc two strokes on a track with huge uphills. Killed them all. Legend.

De Dycker got second in the MX2/MX3 moto and was something like 45 seconds back. Both have come a long way since then. Omara smoking 500 World Champions on a 125 is still far and beyond Villopoto beating a bunch of 450 guys on a 250f.

I was at buds creek and villo put on the single most dominant perfomance I have ever seen in 30 yrs of mx races. He had over a 6 second lead on mx2 champ caroli on the first lap! In the second moto he crashed with a lapper in the middle of the race right in front of me, got up and still won the race by over 50sec..... some days you can't be beat and that was villo's day! RC had a few of those days before that! what also impressed me was ferry's ride in that race he crashed on the first lap and came back through the field, the best I've ever seen ferry ride. RC did crash in his moto with villo, and came through the pack and caught reed about half way, they battled for 2 laps and then RC faded back to about 5sec. behind reed at the finish. RC should have finished 2 but he did have epstine bar!

Damn......I would pay greenbacks to hear The GOAT pinning that Elsinore like no other in that race, especially in dolby surround sound!
RV at Budds was mind blowing, as was any race by The Hurricane!
That said, Magoo's performance on foreign soil is in a league of its own!

Johnny O'mara on a 125cc bike, on a hilly, wide-open track smoking the 500cc World Champ. There is no MXoN performance greater than that. I don't think there has been a better performance outside of the MXoN than that, perhaps other than RC's lapping the entire field.

I have a magazine where Everts says something to the effect of "I have no problem saying that Ricky is the best."

Dirk Guekins?
That was 1990 in Vimmerby, Sweden when he punted Geukens and they won.

As soon as Stefan led that race with RC on his back wheel I felt trouble. Mind you that Zolder track had this long whoop section that RC just smoked Everts on every lap, pulled two bike lengths on there each lap. Take the whoop section out and their speed was similar.
