Which video?  Haven’t found one that shows him shifting and didn’t see rear wheel locked.

In slow motion you can see his rear tire locking up. He didn’t hit a false neutral. If he had he would of coasted out of that landing just fine.

Just rewatched and he was upshifting right after that corner, and downshifting in the air before that landing where he ate shit. Seems likely a false neutral.

I don’t believe I’ve ever hit a false neutral on a downshift, only an upshift, or bumping the lever accidentally without intending to shift. Did it once on a second-gear double right out of a turn years ago. I’ve never been thrown over the bars so quickly in my life.

Just seems weird for a downshift, but certainly possible i guess.

False neutral on a landing wouldn’t cause that type of crash either, he would just rolled out of it. He had to of hit his rear brake. In slow motion vid you can see his rear lock up.

I never understood why these riders use first gear as the risk of hitting neutral.  I never used first gear but I also wasnt at the top level. I also realize they run a taller gear ratio to spread first gear out more but damn.

Newer BMW (R1250RT) will do it as well. It’s really odd, as you’ll think you caught the gear, only for the display’s gear indicator to go blank. Doesn’t happen all the time, but often enough to be more than a fluke.

Why do you hit a false neutral, the only reason is that you didn't shift precise enough, lack of focus.

I've done something similar to this before, didn't hit my back brake or false neutral - I just blipped the throttle on a little bush jump, landed off the gas and my whole body just threw me forward and my pelvis moved forward to the bars, next thing I know I'm slumped over the bars doing a nose wheelie for like 25ft with my legs vertical towards the sky and my arms flailing to try touching the ground to force a fall. I was stuck in an absolute perfect gravity balance, or whatever, and kept coasting in this nose wheelie that I couldn't brake a fall for - was freaking hilarious.

I’m expecting a press release with an injury update. I really want to see him at Hangtown this weekend, however, if his injury was severe enough to not race the second Pala moto I’d be amazed if he showed up at Hangtown. Hope I’m wrong.

If you watch the TV shots of him talking to the mechanics on the side of the track, he points to his head when they are asking him how he’s doing. My guess is he took a head shot somewhere in the crash.

I saw that, and he got up pretty slow which made me think concussion.

Me personally, I think his vision was so bad that he mistimed when the bike was going to land. This happens to me late in the evening when the sun is hitting you right at the takeoffs. A split second off of what you normally expect and your body position is a disaster. Just speculating of course.

What makes you think his vision was “so bad” ?

This theory is incorrect, but he didn’t have goggles on when he crashed.

Ouch!

Hit his head on the ground, then his bike hits him in the head before he gets his foot peg drug across the side of his head.

That's a lot of head.

Not sure what to say… we know he threw his goggles on the first lap.
My point was that just because he didn’t have goggles on, doesn’t mean he had bad vision. Nothing I’ve seen or read has stated he had an issue with seeing clearly.

Yea I know that’s why I also disagree with the theory.

he either hit his rear brake or stalled mid air.

That’s not a concussion causing crash IMO. Pretty soft dirt he landed in. Concussion is more likely when the head bounces off hard ground and the brain bounces inside the skull bruising it.

Yeah, and I noticed that even after the faceplant, his visor is still intact. I guess it doesn’t get ripped off until the bike has its way with him.

So wait….racing in the dirt behind 60hp 450s for 2-3 laps at up to what 40-50mph without goggles doesn’t affect vision? His eyes were a watery mess when he got up from the crash. I’m sure the crash caused more eye issues but the way his body reacted to the landing of the jump looked like his timing was off due to poor vision.

Look  it was stupid sexton didn’t pull in for goggles but his rear wheel clearly locks up when he lands

Down vote warranted. However, I was thinking today it seems like when Jett is on the track it just messes with him. I’m a huge fan of all these guys but he seems to do really weird stuff when Jett is there. It’s like extra pressure.

Having never lead a lap against Jett in 23 probably still messes with his head.

I get your line of thinking but I’m also looking at the only variable that has changed for a guy who has hit that exact jump hundreds of times. It’s just weird for me to think he accidentally hit the rear brake while having good vision when these guys are perfecting foot and body position since PWs.

Could it be Chase had his foot on the brake pedal and when landing put the brake on just enough to throw him a little too far forward??

In all the vids of him after the crash I havent seen him nursing his shoulder or doing any shoulder rolling motions. Like you would do feeling out if you're hurt

I promise you chase isn’t looking at his feet when he is riding. Blind deaf or dead he ain’t doing that.

I really dont understand the Sexton hate. Dude is vanillas as it gets. Maybe you don’t love him but there’s not much there to dislike either.

I’ll grant that it is possible his vision was affected. But the crash happened because his rear wheel locked up.
