I would think Mirtl has a ton of inside info and dirt that could shake up the sport.  He may just have some serious dirt for the Lawrences to worry about...

Imagine a headline soon:  The Lawrences and Mirtl have reached a settlement out of court.

If you are the Lawrences and now realize that he has more dirt that could really shake things up, then what do you do?  Mirtl is putting out his episode 2 teaser which hints at stuff, and so maybe there is more dirt for the Lawrences to think about before proceeding with legal action.  In other words, it might not be worth suing for 400k if you know Mirtl will keep the dirt to himself.

ok, then would you please put a mic in front of JA21 and simply ask "So Jason, care to fully clear the air?? Where the heck ya been?" cause that would seem pretty simple and would answer a question a LOT of your customers would love answered.

It’s better just to admit you were wrong, and maybe say sorry.

um, wrong about what? I still disagree with his stance on "reporting" but I am not here to "argue" about it....just talkin'...have a better day.

So, is your stance on "reporting" that it should be mainly comprised of gossip amd hearsay?

Are you keeping up with the current story and understanding that there is nothing significant to report on other than this? Same woth the Jason Anderson story.

How would you know he’ll keep the “dirt” to himself? It’s not as though he’s coming off as rational and trustworthy. If you’re the Lawrences, you address the video with an apology, and get ahead of whatever else there is - just put it all out there. If it’s not true, you can say “he’s going to allege that…..but here’s why you shouldn’t believe him.”  Then Mirtl has nothing. I’d be surprised if there is any serious misconduct but I really don’t know. Either way, giving in to blackmail is a bad idea. Imagine knowing someone has you by the balls forever?

Possibly, but it's just a matter of whether or not he remembers all the dirt or not.  Because in his position, he would definitely know a lot of inside information that could be harmful to the riders.

I would assume there is "dirt" on all the top guys, to some degree. Just because Mirtl is a clown and completely unhinged right now doesn't mean all the info he has is harmless.

I would HOPE there is nothing groundbreaking he would be putting out on "episode 2" or whatever his entitled ego is calling it, but to think there is zero chance he has some REAL dirt would be foolish. He was as inside as inside gets before all this hit the fan, so it's possible...

That being said, unless he has actual proof...even if he did drop some wild stuff, his behavior since the story broke has severely undermined his credibility. When Kooksey is your only ally....

Yes, he is a Kooksey guy....I find it comical that these know nothings come on here and tell the media how to do their job but has zero knowledge of how to do it themselves...maybe he should just get a room with that usename guy that got banned because all he did was bitch about the media and ML....

You remain calm.  He's just lashing out and mud slinging rarely changes minds and is soon forgotten, focus on the races that start in a few days, and know that five years from now people will be talking about your results over that time and no one probably will remember Mirtl.

This does not appears to be someone with considered restraint.  If he had hard dirt he'd have played it all by now; the claims against him were existential day one.

Yes, I have seen that pic and remember it.  But, it was not like a widespread issue, there was a few isolated incidents that we no doubt have all read about.  My only point, they were few and far between, it was not at all like a rampant issue as the other cat was trying to portray.  The Stewart family has been by large praised and embraced on and off of the track.

Then why did he wait so long to release the footage of Jett with the N word?  Like others have said, in his position he would definitely have dirt and you would be foolish to think otherwise. I'm around someone who's in a similar role and you would be surprised how openly people talk when they are around people they trust.  There is a lot of dirt out there.  Maybe Mirtl now understands there's no avoiding his whole ship from going down, so he might as well take everyone else down with him?

Whether or not he has more dirt on the Lawrences is to be determined, but I'm curious to his production for Episode #2.

ML is one of the few in this sport with actual credibility that handles things in the best way he can.

Look at the Loretta’s claim gate thing. He jumped on it right away, got in touch with all parties and let them say what they had to say.

Then reported it in a non-biased way for all the fans to read and make up their own mind.

Then we had ”all the rest” that just slotted in behind Yamaha/Star/Deegan because it was the easy thing to do and don’t get a bunch of enemies.

The orange MSR jersey in that photo belonged to a friend of mine ,a local pro that was racing that day and gave his jersey to a fan. My buddy was worried that his name would show up in some of the photos from that incident, but thankfully none ever did. I was only going to half of the rounds back then. between 03 and 2011, about 6 nationals each year.  I saw a lot, not a lot of public stuff that James was dealing with but more than I expected.

It was worse than what You are saying, bad enough that James stopped going to the races for Saturday practice.  I was at one of the rounds and walking through the pits and saw somebody coming out of James' motorhome and asked him where he was. And he said "he's not coming to the races on Saturdays anymore because of all the BS he was dealing with from fans".That was when the race was on Sunday and Saturday was Practice. I was so bummed out because I loved to photograph him on Saturdays. He and RC would throw some amazing whips and scrubs. I saw James do some amazing stuff that he only did 1 time and didn't do it during a race. Stuff that You may not even think of trying on a video game!

I was at highpoint during the podium after he and RC had a great battle . RC ended up winning by over a minute,  Stewart had over a minute on 3rd place. Fans were booing him and yelling the same words that Jett was saying, but with hate behind it. Not a lot of people yelling the words but enough that I felt disgusted . A lot more booing ,James took his helmet and threw it at the crowd and they erupted in cheers. Later on , after RC left it seemed that a lot of that went away. It may have just been RC fans that didn't want to see him get beet lashing out with the most hateful way they could think of. But unfortunately he had to deal with a lot of BS earlier on. I  only personally saw the podium and Southwick incident. I have no idea who it was that I spoke with. A younger black guy that had access to Stewart's RV. I think he was the driver, it wasn't anybody I recognized. Wasn't Big James or Malcom or his mom.

The way that Jett was saying those words in the few seconds of video  did not show any hate or real understanding of the gravity of the words. I hope that Jett doesn't get in trouble for that. I don't think he should even address it at this point. He has so many more eyes on him that all he will do is amplify the message from Mirtl. And people that have not heard or seen the video would find out from Jett. If this blows up bigger maybe. If I was Mirtl I would be worried about the Lawrence's coming after him for extortion or blackmail. Stuff that could have criminal charges . The way he's putting it out and saying he has more , trying to stop the Lawrences from proceeding with the legal stuff may not be enough. But it seems like it's gotta be getting close to something like extortion.

Not here to glaze (isn't that what the cool kids say now?) ML or Matthes, but refusing to be used by Mirtl in his nervous-breakdown fueled scorched earth campaign isn't a lack of journalism. It's common sense.

Matthes had Mirtl on immediately after this broke, and gave him the benefit of the doubt...he hasn't had him on since and doubt he will at this point.

"Interviewing" an unhinged and clearly compromised guy like Mirtl is just enabling his delusion.

Suspect he just found it.  If you "were being bled dry" and thought this would get people to back off why would you not play it all out as soon as possible to leverage it to rest?  There's no point in not playing that hand, and every hand.  "I've got the stuff" usually means "I've got nothing."

Maybe he'll find some other irrelevant morsels.  He's just trying to drag them down with him.

Kind of like how more legit reporters will stay away from the TMZ style gosip. Mirtl's video and Cooksey are TMZ style news , if anything it gives ML and Matthes more credibility on not reporting on everything they hear  until it reaches a certain level, if at all.

I was willing to give Mirtl the benefit of the doubt at first. But his actions scream  guilty to me, if not guilty than perhaps he's insane.  Trying to take Jett down with him, or extort them into dropping the suits. Not something somebody that is innocent with proof of innocence  would do.

He said he was saving it to clear his name in court, but couldn't hold it any longer. Translation: He spoke to his attorney who advised him none of this is relevant to his court case and will not be admissible.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't Mirtl's video but was fed to him by Cooksey's benefactor.

I agree he could have stumbled upon this recently or maybe it was fed to him.  But I also know he would have some dirt that up until now maybe he hasn't thought about using in retaliation. But now that his whole empire is sinking quickly, why not take everyone down with him, or at least attempt to.  His little teaser has quite a bit of riddle in it, so maybe there's some real dirt behind some of it. Who knows but we'll see what he comes up with.  He's probably waiting until Thursday night or Friday to release episode 2, just in time for the race on Saturday.

Agreed, it could have been fed to him recently.  But unless Mirtl has completely forgot about everything (very possible), he definitely has more dirt from his previous role.  His challenge will be proving any of it.

When you're being killed now in public it makes no sense to not talk now about evidence that exonerates you.  If those facts are material and relevant, it will come in later regardless of whether it's talked about in public before hand.   Later may not mean anything if you can clear your names now.  He's not sharing facts that exonerate him from the claims against him most likely because he has no such facts; saving them for trial to launch a big gotcha makes no sense if playing them now can help you shut it down.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't Mirtl's video but was fed to him by Cooksey's benefactor.

Releasing a 7 year old out of context short video that has an adolescent saying a racial slur not directed at anyone is a weird way to defend/justify damning allegations of nearly 1mil of embezzlement and wire fraud.

The only sense I can make out of dropping it now is that we're 1 week out from the opening round of the outdoors and this is a pathetic attempt to try and distract them from preparing for racing, I don't think its quite worked out the way that he hoped though

Right, the video has nothing to do with the substance of the case. He's just trying to scare the Lawrences and Wasserman into dropping their respective legal proceedings.

Exactly how I took it! Jett is making his big comeback from injury at Pala and its a pathetic attempt to get him off his game. I don't see it affecting his performance whatsoever
