Slammed my left side of my ribs four days ago. Pains getting worse every day (or hour) Got x-rays this morning and nothing came back broke or fractured. I've broke ribs before ( 25-30 years ago) and I swear I feel like this feels worse.. Doctor said I tore my cartilage ( can't see that with a x-ray). I literally can't hardly get in and out of bed, breathing hurts, and sneezing KILLS. Anyone ever injured their ribs without breaking them?

Cartilage is way worse than breaking the bone from my experience. Nothing you can do for it so just suck it up for a few weeks.

I was actually embarrassed when they told me nothing was broke. I wouldn't have even went except the pain was(is) so bad I was worried about my organs getting stabbed by a broken bone. Looks like next couple weeks should be fun 🙄

I’ve trashed my ribs more times than I can remember. Your symptoms sound about right. Ice or heat are your best friends.

Laughing, coughing,  sneezing, getting into bed, getting out of bed, finding the position that doesn't hurt lying down, sitting, pr just about anything. Sorry, it's just going to be a few weeks of misery.

Take it as easy you're able.

When you say you broke ribs 25 -30 years ago is a clue.  My friend, things get more difficult as you age. You must be around 50. It’s easy’r to get hurt , pain is more intense and takes longer to heal . JM2C

Your math adds up brother, I'm 50, will be 51 in August. I think I've aged more in the last 4-5 years than I did from 30 to 45... Sad but true

This might come across as a little shitty but it's in jest (and I do hope you don't laugh) but at least your username checks out.

I laughed 😪 The Sore is short for my first name, Soren. Named after my Grandfather and his nickname was Sam, so I got called both. Didn't even think about it before I read your reply. I like your thinking.  Lol

Man...I'm sorry.  I have  an older friend who literally fell getting out of bed and was in the same boat with regards to pain due to torn cartlidge in the rib cage..

Hope it's a short recovery time for you!

Good luck in the future. Stay safe and don’t be too hard on yourself when things take longer to get done than they used too. 👍🏻💯

yeah i bruised my sternum and hurt 4 ribs on my leftside on a dumb ass whiskey throttle squid moment back in 2020.. anyhow the pain sucked ass. my issue is that to this day. if i get pressure in the middle of my chest it feels like i cant breath and i have to "pop" it to get relief... it sucks. Multiple doctors have said its costochondritis or slipping rib syndrome from that injury.

I did the same thing.  It was hell.  I kept a pillow with me all the time for coughing.  I have never been in more pain than when I had to hawk a loogie.  Took 6 months to get better.

I found the video below to be helpful each time I broke my ribs (3 times...sucks every time). This really helps with getting in/out of bed, coughing, etc...  Make sure you are using shirts you don't care about because it stretches the crap out of them.

Make sure you get a good chest protector that offers rib protection.  I went with a TLD Rockfight.

Broken ribs or rib injuries suck…the only thing good about a new injury is , it takes your mind off the old injuries…

I injured a bunch of ribs some years back, nothing broken or fractured. It was extremely painful and it took a long time to recover. If only I had worn my Leatt 4.1 that day, I would not likely have had that injury. Getting out of bed, I remember, was a damn chore.

I hope you are able to heal up faster than you hope and get back riding soon.

I happened to bruise mine up last weekend dinking around some badger holes, but got lucky and just lightly bruised them.

I’m going to get a chest protector pretty soon, too…

I went to endo-nesia (credit Matty B.) last summer and "tore up" a few ribs on my right side. I hate going to the doctor, and this didn't seem necessary. So who knows if they were broken or not, but it hurt pretty bad until the second or third week in August. I was having trouble even breathing during that time. Rib injuries suck man, I hope you heal up quick.

Some will laugh at this, but the handful of times I've broken ribs I have always used a kidney belt to wrap up the mid-section of my chest. Huge help in keeping things kind of "together" and helped with the coughing/sneezing/laughing pains.

I don't do pain pills at all, never have. Those scare the shit out of me.
