I think there is an opportunity to improve the Nationals.

Reduce the number of entrants in each of the current classes by 10 riders and add a 3rd east/west support class for regional pro's and rookies to showcase their talent.
Face it...the riders finishing in between 30th and 40th may deserve to be there but, they are having more of a negative impact on the results than a positive one. The outcome of a race should not be determined by lappers even though it is unintentional.

To come up with a better showcase of talent for rookies and locals MX Sports should looking at adding a 3rd East/West support class. Complete with spec products and a reasonable claim rule to keep to competition based on skills rather than bank accounts.

Overall the participation in the series would be increased by adding a second class on both coasts. Revenue would be increased for MX Sports by selling spec sponsorships to suppliers of oils, chains, brakes, tires, etc... And most important the level of competition would improve.
Team managers would have time to check out local talent and rookies against equal challengers and equipment instead of missing a golden opportunity because they are keeping track of their current riders while the next star maybe soldiering on in 30th place. The cultivation of riders is an important seed to the growth of our industry...remember Ryan Dungey wasn't spotted winning all the A classes in amateur racing...he was given a chance by a team manager that took the time to look.

Thoughts?

Team managers look to the 85cc class at LL's for the next thing.

If you don't come in to the pro's swinging you ain't ever gonna.

The promoters and track workers are taxed and burnt out doing what they are already doing. It's just another monday fantasy dream. Will never happen. They all think the womens class is entertainment.

I think that is a great idea, and I also think that if it was a 125 only class, that it would be a major success. Can we make it happen ???

I think you are off base in more than one area here... Two current examples are Kyle Regal and Zach Bell.

Kyle was never a top 5 85 rider, and Zach has struggled making the transition to big bikes.

Be awesome, but how will ALL the current OEM's be able to be equally represent themselves?

Make the class, if the popularity is there, the bikes will be built. No doubt about it.

The goal should be to attract 40 riders who qualify within 4 seconds a lap of each other.

As it is now lappers qualify. Decrease the number of gates or break up the classes to Pro and Support.

Make it so they all race 1 brand with limited mods, so they are all on basically identical machinery. That would be sick.

And who is going to pay the OEM builder to supply all those bikes?

A 125 class would cool, but 150 would better as a 150 bike would have more sale appeal for people who are just too big for 125s like my self and have to go through the hassle of 144ing my 125

Also have one production based 250cc class with limited machine mods any stroke and the premier class could be full on works bikes anything goes up to 450cc

One OEM would be ideal...similar to what KTM has done years past with the Moto GP's and supercross challenge. By selling the class as a spec class it suddenly becomes another revenue stream for MX Sports. Without a net revenue increase it will never happen.

A certain level of competition in the premiere classes need to be maintained. It is nearly impossible for a local pro or a rookie to compete in the current lights class. All of the regular team have done a tremendous job of making some of the sickest 250f's on the planet.
They deserve to shine for their accomplishments...there is no argument to that fact.
We have 2 rounds to go in the series and there are only 14 competitors in the 250 class and 16 competitors in the 450 class have earned 100 points this entire season....the classes aren't stacked...they're diluted to a point that fewer than 20 riders are competing on on a full-time basis. With that kind of participation the sport as we know can not sustain itself.

I honestly think that's a great idea. I like 2 strokes, but let's be realistic. A 250f support class open to local/ or non factory talent, doing maybe a 15-20 moto would be a great idea. Not everyone is a mini hotshot, John Dowd didn't start racing til he was 16 I believe

I like the idea. I think it would be nice for those who don't have the advantage of riding a factory bike to showcase their talent. We all know there is an advantage to having factory backing.
I just don't know about the additional revenue stream right now. It seems like everyone keeps continuing to cut back. I think it could happen in the future.

They could always just add a 2-stroke challenge class, and have it 125-500cc. so basically if it's 2-stroke you can race in the class. Yes it wouldn't be totally balance but it sure would make for some great racing.

Leave the bikes 125cc, this class needs minimal barriers to entry.
Have it on the 4 weekends the WMA are not racing.

Unfortunately this wont happen because Honda and other manufacturers who dont make 125cc 2strokes anymore will threaten to leave the series & DC will be a pussy and give in to them... and probably make something absurd like a 150cc 4stroke race showcasing all that is wrong with MX.

a 125/144 class would be amazing. So I'm all for it.

From what I read on this board, some of the best racing at Loretta Lynn's was in the 125cc two-stroke class.

No reason to import what won't sell.
