I think there is an opportunity to improve the Nationals.
Reduce the number of entrants in each of the current classes by 10 riders and add a 3rd east/west support class for regional pro's and rookies to showcase their talent.
Face it...the riders finishing in between 30th and 40th may deserve to be there but, they are having more of a negative impact on the results than a positive one. The outcome of a race should not be determined by lappers even though it is unintentional.
To come up with a better showcase of talent for rookies and locals MX Sports should looking at adding a 3rd East/West support class. Complete with spec products and a reasonable claim rule to keep to competition based on skills rather than bank accounts.
Overall the participation in the series would be increased by adding a second class on both coasts. Revenue would be increased for MX Sports by selling spec sponsorships to suppliers of oils, chains, brakes, tires, etc... And most important the level of competition would improve.
Team managers would have time to check out local talent and rookies against equal challengers and equipment instead of missing a golden opportunity because they are keeping track of their current riders while the next star maybe soldiering on in 30th place. The cultivation of riders is an important seed to the growth of our industry...remember Ryan Dungey wasn't spotted winning all the A classes in amateur racing...he was given a chance by a team manager that took the time to look.
Thoughts?

Kyle was never a top 5 85 rider, and Zach has struggled making the transition to big bikes.
As it is now lappers qualify. Decrease the number of gates or break up the classes to Pro and Support.
Also have one production based 250cc class with limited machine mods any stroke and the premier class could be full on works bikes anything goes up to 450cc
They deserve to shine for their accomplishments...there is no argument to that fact.
We have 2 rounds to go in the series and there are only 14 competitors in the 250 class and 16 competitors in the 450 class have earned 100 points this entire season....the classes aren't stacked...they're diluted to a point that fewer than 20 riders are competing on on a full-time basis. With that kind of participation the sport as we know can not sustain itself.

I just don't know about the additional revenue stream right now. It seems like everyone keeps continuing to cut back. I think it could happen in the future.
Have it on the 4 weekends the WMA are not racing.
Unfortunately this wont happen because Honda and other manufacturers who dont make 125cc 2strokes anymore will threaten to leave the series & DC will be a pussy and give in to them... and probably make something absurd like a 150cc 4stroke race showcasing all that is wrong with MX.
From what I read on this board, some of the best racing at Loretta Lynn's was in the 125cc two-stroke class.
