Haha, I had no idea the history on this guy. Maybe I’ll save the “racing tips” for now lol.
I don't know the guy and he talks like a salesman, but he's not wrong. Too many customers say they did a top end on their 250f at 50 hrs., and I ask what they did, and it's always just a piston.
He's a one man show, so sometimes he's easy to get in touch with, other times a bit of a challenge. But, he is very passionate about engines. He has done many engines for me over the last 15 years, and they have all been exceptional. YMMV, but that has been my experience.
Just from what I’ve watched, he seems very knowledgeable. Still interesting 😊
Rode an 18ish KTM 125 with an HP built engine, thing ripped. Guys kind of a look, but he knows how to make an engine work.
So far he's the only person I've seen advertising a Get CDI for my 2022 been thinking about getting one I've literally been back to Twisted development five times not to mention when they built the motor to try to do something with the CDI to get the RPMs back from the recall KTM did with no avail🤷♂️
I’ve talked with him on the phone a couple of times and actually got the feeling he made the time to do so, which is rare. I wouldn’t hesitate to have him do an engine for me
You should be able to get one straight through GET. I almost bought one from them a few years ago for one of mine. I live like an hour from their warehouse.
I've bought several GET's from Derek. He maps them before shipping (and since he has a dyno and spends so much time on it, he has pretty good maps).
Yeah I've seen them offered for the 125 but the 150 should have a different program do you know of any that has the software to program them other than HP?
My motor is not stocked so I'm not sure if his Maps will work for it that's why I'm a little confused?
I've talked to Derek several times over the phone and chatted through DM on Instagram, and as recent as this afternoon. On the phone, he's very informative, well-spoken, and gives me the feeling that he's very knowledgable when it comes to his profession. I'm sure he's a very busy guy, but he always seems to make time to answer the questions I ask him. His replies are a lot shorter on IG, which is fine and to be expected. I purchased a GET SX1 from him for my new KTM 350 last year and it seems to be decent. Truth be told, I haven't had a chance to ride much, but I will this year. My best friend just got a new Husky 350 and got a Vortex from TD, so it'll be interesting to see what differences there are in performance between the two. I also have a friend with a bone stock new 350, so we can add that to the comparison mix.
Give him a call. He's mapped several 270's for me and they all ran great!
They hate him cause they ain’t him
Pit Row
Same here. He was great to talk to and had useful information to share. Could tell he loves engines.
He goes pretty in depth on mechanical differences between wp and kyb/showa shocks and forks in a couple of videos.
Ive had a couple conversations with Derek, seems like a stand up guy that knows his craft and is willing to have a conversation with the consumer.
