The difference in the sport from the clean cut “I just want to thank my sponsors” style, where there was only like 4 good guys in the 450 class and everyone was a robot, compared to today when most of the top guys are out and you still have one of the better seasons, and everybody is a character… is wild. The change weve seen has been incredible both in talent depth and rider personalities. I love dunge but looking back the sport had gotten pretty boring there for a while.
It was also starting to look a bit scary a few years ago when we realized that a huge chunk of the 450 class will all be retiring soon and around the same time, but I have to say now the bench looks super deep now. Cole Davies already looks like the next generational talent and thats with a superstar like weve never seen in haiden deegan. Juju is gonna be around a long time and just getting started. The future is bright. I’m so glad were finally letting these guys personalities shine through, it brings a whole other element to the sport.

I have hopes Drew Adams is going to have a high ceiling. He was the best amateur last year, better than Davies. He's younger, just turned 17 last month. Hopefully seeing the massive improvements Davies has made is driving him. He only broke his collarbone didn't he? Gotta be back on the bike
I thought you were gonna bring up his consistency vs the current field. I feel like if he didn’t retire he would have won 1/2 of all the titles since then just with consistency. Everyone has seemed to do everything they can to throw the titles away basically. That dude was a machine. Good starts stayed out of trouble, podium freak.
If Davies continues on this trajectory, he will be top dog for a long time. I am interested to see if his and Haiden’s relationship stays good. I like both of them, but Davies seems a lot more naturally gifted in supercross than Haiden.
Ya that era was super boring…Weston might disagree…
Tomac & Musquin might disagree too…

It wasn’t a bad era, but I will say, this era is way more entertaining. 2000-2012 was amazing. 13-17 had some moments, 18-20 was okay. 2021 to 2023 was good. 2023 to now has been epic and I can’t get enough
"He only broke his collarbone didn't he?"
No. He also fractured his T-6, T-7, T-8 vertebraes and a rib. That's why he hasn't been back at the races.
He's planning to race in Philadelphia.
I hope you’re right. Drew seems like a great kid and an incredible talent, but I’m afraid genetics may hold him back in the long run. He’s a biggin’!
Yea thats what I’m saying, this era is starting to have a flashy 90’s rockstar vibe to it which is awesome.
If custom helmets with bass boat glitter paintjobs come back, then I'm all for it.
I remember Dunge having words for Tomac at the last 2017 SX race for the championship.... That was a bit spicy.
No way Brian wants Haiden on the same coast as Cole next year. That's when the potential beef would start. It won't be this summer that's for sure
I would say no way Star wants them on the same coast next year. Your two top guys on the same coast doesn't make sense.
Exactly, no chance they ride the same coast again unless there's an injury and one guy won't be ready for the west.
What is Cole’s contract with Star?
If they're smart they better sign him through at least 2035 lol
Deegan is good but generational talent is a stretch. He’s been getting beat by a rookie in multiple supercross races and he’s a third year pro with one Mx title to his credit. He just has a massive social media following and a big personality in a sport with very few. Don’t dislike the kid but just my 2 cents.
He's won one race fgs.
By the way, during the Dungey era, there were guys like, Stewart, Reed, RV, Roczen, and Tomac. Dungey raced them all, and that's sone heavy talent. There are usually only 3-4 elite guys in the 450 class. Currently indoors, it's Jett, Tomac, Chase and Webb. Could throw Roczen in, but he's not been a title threat for years.
Outdoors, it whittles down to Jett, Tomac, and Chase. Webb won't be a factor outdoors, and I guess we'll see how Prado does. Back handed compliment aside, I will agree that with others possibly coming stateside, the 450 class looks bright in the next few seasons.
Pit Row
There has never been a bad era of supercross, not ever
I'm actually not a fan of the way he rides. Can't stand the endless rev limiter stuff.... but he's won outdoors, won smx, is leading the points currently, and will be the favorite to win outdoors again coming up. That's creeping up on generational.
Smx I don’t really count as “real” titles for the argument. He leaves his 250 career with 2 Mx and 1 sx. He’s gotta be really good in the 450s to be “generational” he’s definitely not having any special rides indoors. At this point I’d say he’s gonna be a great 450 outdoor rider and an average 450 Supercross rider.
Davies is further along in his development than Jett was at the same age. Thus the "trajectory" talk. And it's a valid statement. Davies has won multiple races in the triple crown events too, so it seems like he has won more than he actually has. In Glendale he dominantly won the first 2 of the 3 motos, then crashed on the start in the 3rd moto which hurt his overall for the event. But his first two motos were won in convincing fashion.
Seeing Davies doing what he is doing plus Deegan being pretty damn good as well, it's probably a worthwhile exercise to drop the whole "generational" bullshit tag for all of the riders, including Jett. i hate that fucking phrase. It came from other sports announcers in other sports, and made its way into our sport via some of the talking heads. Jett is an amazing rider, but he's not a top 1 over a 20 year span.
26' will be 250's indoors again, so it's a wait and see.
