Tomac's 2015 Hangtown. Most dominant ride ever?

It was a whopper. In the second moto he was up to 6 seconds faster than the next guy. RC lapping the field was somethin else, but Eli just crushed the competition at Hamgtown, and it was in dry conditions.

Other rides are worth noting, one being the dominant ride when Herlings at the 2012 Des Nations lapped our then 250 National Champion, Blake Bagget.

What in your opinion is the most dominant ride ever?

Certainly not the most dominant ever, but Pala 2 2022 Moto 1 was one of the craziest things I’ve ever witnessed, Tomac and Sexton both giving it absolutely everything they had and putting over a minute on Anderson by the end of the Moto was shocking. Herlings in 2012 was a good shout, Baggett had some incredibly dominant rides that year so for him to get lapped was astonishing.

Final answer, Herlings, 2012 Lierop. Jeremy Seewers ride in Russia 2017 is up there too.

The moto from that year I have gone back and watched the most is millville 450 moto 2, insane.

No one going with Millville ‘06? Ricky lapping the entire field? Personally I think Eli in moto 2 at Hangtown is one of the most dominant rides of all time. Maybe not #1 but there’s a argument for it. RC lapped everybody. Herlings in 2012 was insanely impressive, losses some points for being in the 250 class, but RC and Reed lapped the entire field in a Supercross inside of 20 laps…. Roughly 15 minutes. Think about that

Tomac's 2022 season doesn't get fully appreciated yet, in time it will. The gaps weren't huge but Redbud national 2022 was a clinic.

Another very dominant performance was Danny Magoo Chandler's ride at the Motocross and Trophée des Nations in 1982.  He blitzed all 4 motos, winning against the world's best.

That Moto is an all time classic, Jeremy Martin in the booth too is the perfect cinnamon and sugar on top

Completely forgot about this, this might actually be the correct answer

was a fun article. most interesting is that he says he's almost 100% and is chomping to get back to racing.

Carmichael lapping the field in muddy conditions is quite different than winning by 60-90 seconds in perfect conditions

Ken Roczen Millville 2016 is another contender but I think Tomac at Hangtown edges it.

I completely agree.

I agree with this as he came from outside the top 20 in both motos to go 1-1 if I remember correctly. I still remember Bailey was talking about how Tortelli was going to have a hard time passing guys like he was earlier in the moto. Then Tortelli proceeds to pass 4-5 guys in less than a lap leaving Bailey speechless.

If Tortelli never gets hurt after winning RedBud (passing RC to do it) RC may have had different stats. BUt then again, IF my aunt had balls she would be my uncle......

Or maybe JS259 going from last to first on a 125 against almost all 250F's....

SO many great rides throughout the years. Hard to pick

Another one I just thought of was Håkan Carlqvist at the 1988 GP at Namur.  He was leading the race by nearly a minute, and pulled over to the track side to have a beer!

Went on to win the second moto as well. Pretty epic.

It isn’t even a contest.  It doesn’t get more dominant than lapping the field.

I'd agree, but mud races are different. Sure, they all raced the same conditions but mud tends to create severe imbalances. Some examples are Rick Ryan, normally edging outside the top 10 in sx, winning Daytona in the mud. Another example is Stefan Everts lapping RC in the mud. Not once, but twice I believe.  No one thinks these things would happen under normal conditions, so I personally tend to give more weight to dominant performances in dryer conditions.

However, his ride is definitely up there just because lapping an entire field, mud or not, is amazing.

this is completely off my bad memory, but wasnt tomacs ride a round later or so at glen helen even more impressive? I remember him jumping into an uphill turn that was just insane

But i think its safe to say there isnt one most dominant ride ever, there has been a lot of em and we all have our different favorites.

I know this isn’t the nostalgic answer but Sexton’s last to 1st ride at Hangtown last year was every bit as good as Eli’s 2015 ride. Watched em both from the couch and was blown away both times.

That was an epic ride. I don't think anyone in the premiere class went from last to 1st outdoors. Wish that Sexton showed up at every race.

I'm going with Marty Moates' USGP ride in 1980. Not because Marty won both motos by some massive margin, but because of the fire he lit under the collective asses of US riders for the next decade plus. Americans only lost one 500 USGP between '80 - '86 (and it was due to a weird FIM rule at the time that had Carla beat Glover on time, rather than overall scores), we won 12 straight MXdNs (including the already mentioned dominate ride by Magoo in '82), and tons of 250 & 125 USGP races against the best Europe had to offer.

Stefan Everts winning all 3 GP's in one day is up there, Ernee 03

Stew at Toronto 2014 comes to mind. Wasn’t he doing 3 different jump lines no one else was doing? Don’t see that very often.

I just remembered after tomac smoked Dungey they interviewed Dungey. When asked what he needed to do to beat tomac and he was extremely rattled and frustrated like I've never seen Dungey before.

I would be a bit stunned too if I was one of the best riders and just got gapped by over a minute while pulling off 6 seconds a lap faster.

I will say that ride was an anomaly though. Amazing anomaly, but one nonetheless.
