Do you wash/ rinse with water  after riding? The sweat is what rots the foam….probably nit good to store them in a super hot van either😂

This.

I soak mine in water as soon as I'm done riding to help get as much of the body oils, salts, dirt, etc., out ASAP which can deteriorate the foam. Then I'll soak in a mild detergent, squeezing the foam every so often to flush it through. I'll leave them there for most of the day, doing that every time I pass by and then thoroughly rinse with clean water. Pat the foam (so as not to wring and tear it) with a towel to get most of the water out and let air dry.

I keep them in the house when not in use and have had great results with foam longevity doing this.

Sounds time consuming. I do enough with cleaning/maintaining the bike and all my other gear.

I’ll just buy a new set of goggles every year and rotate an old set out

Clean them with shampoo, smells nice and makes the foam nice and soft and cushy. No joke, I couldn't believe it.

^this. I have 10 year old Airbrakes still in rotation on original foam. I am a very heavy sweater, I simply leave them out to dry before putting them away in their individual case and chuck them in the washing machine with the lense removed every few months.

I’ve never had a pair of scott’s from 89s to prospects have the foam outlast my desire to get new goggles… seriously that’s a problem???

I was thinking the same thing, I’m a weekend warrior, 2-4 ride days a month, and I easily get a couple of years out of goggles even though I generally just toss them back in the gear bag.

I just toss them in the washing machine on gentle cycle with some towels.  Keeps them nice and fresh. I've never had foam break down.  Take out the lens of course.

Thanks for the feed back. I probably should have said these are signed riders goggles & wanted to do what I could to preserve them the best I could.

The only thing you can do is put them in a sealed box and keep them away from any sun. Conceal desiccant packs inside the goggle to absorb moisture. If you want to display them, make or have someone make a sealed shadow box or seal them in a plexiglass box.

There’s almost nothing you can do to prevent foam from degrading over time. You can only slow it. Helmet foam suffers the same fate.

Do not handle them at all.

I just get a small container and put some warm (not too hot) water in with scent and dye free laundry detergent. Remove the lens, let the frame/strap soak for a couple minutes while I clean the lens with dawn and dry with a microfiber towel. Then I agitate the frame and strap in the solution until it's all clean. Rinse with cold water and squeeze out as much water as you can before hang drying. About 24h later, you've got really clean goggles!

Actually, it takes longer to type than to do and he did ask how to preserve the foam, not just replace it. And I don't like putting nasty goggle foam on my face or sticking my head inside a rank helmet liner, so I clean both in a similar manner.

I run some water in the sink as I'm coming in the house and drop the goggles in as I'm unloading the gear into the laundry room. Fill a bucket in there with cold water with a touch of mild detergent while I'm loading the washer and at some point I move the goggles from the sink to the bucket and let them soak some more. Eventually dump the bucket, put clean water in and let them soak until whenever and then pull them out, pat the foam dry and let them air dry. About as hard and time-consuming as putting clothes in the washer and then into the dryer.

But hey, I realize it's not for everyone - we live in a disposable society and a lot of people can't be bothered to take the time for even basic hygiene, much less caring for riding gear. 😄

My goggle problem is that the frames and foam last too long!
I sweat a ton when I ride and my goggles last so long that I toss them out when the manufacturers stop making lenses and tear-offs for them.

No special treatment or special soaps for my gear.

When I get home from a ride I unload the van and toss all my gear including the helmet liner in the washing machine on the regular cycle with "All free & clear" laundry detergent and a drop of "Dawn dishwashing detergent" on areas that I think might stain.   I take the lens out of each goggle frame before I toss them in the wash and hand-rinse the lens in the sink.

I hang up all the gear in front of a dehumidifier running on the maximum setting.

There is only one goggle that is made that has magnetic face foam and you can buy replacement foam as well. I just bought a pair and should be here in the next few days..  Looks great...

Hit them with the garden hose and let them air dry.  A decent set of goggles, foam will last forever.  I ride every weekend, get 5 years out of goggles easy.  Usually, the elastic in the strap is the first thing to start wearing out.
