But, mainly I haven’t said a word because I agree with you. If Blair’s comments are true, it makes sense. NBC gives through contract to Feld a network package, those folks believe in the people they have in place, but do not believe in DB. From there it is their business to choose who they want to run their show and how they want to run it. It is apparently working well too because their viewers per race were up in 2024 by over 25% per race.

At the end of the day, it is just a business decision, and Blair didn’t make the cut. But it also doesn’t give RC any right to act the way he did on that track walk.

Didn't the Deegans say RC was the reason Evan Ferry got quit/fired from Triumph?

DB’s the best person for the job and didn’t get it due to others insecurities. The best person should have gotten the job. Maybe it does happen all the time in business but this is our hobby. Personally I don’t like the idea of looking back 20 years from now and hearing Ricky’s 30,000 foot view or Leigh’s accent.

I’ve never understood why people think the commentator brings views. No one’s watching to hear Leigh. They are watching because they like racing.

Look up the Peter principle.

There are entire concepts around the wrong people getting jobs and why.

But yeah sure because you don’t own it, you can’t decide or observe?

Why is everyone is taking his word as gospel since 95% of us never met any of these guys. No wonder so many pro athletes like Eli want nothing to do with fans. The hate on RC is unbelievable and yes I saw the Arlington footage when it first aired in 2023. Thought it was a dickhead move at the time but figured there was a backstory to it between them.

I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I listened to his video twice and it sure seems like the fans pumped DB up too much and he thought he could call the shots at NBC so they parted ways. He alluded to it himself when the boss told him what they wanted and he disagreed. Happens all the time in business. Much ado about nothing.

I get the Peter principle completely. In fact I agree with it. I’m not suggesting RC is great at covering a race, he was a great racer who was put into that position possibly because he is the GOAT rider of MX. But, I do still stand by since none of us own or operate the program we don’t make the decisions, and the statistics show that the people they have in place currently are driving better results. Could DB being the guy or anyone else for that matter drive better results yet, maybe? But we won’t know that unless a change is made by the people in control. But who they have in their now is not hurting the show by the stats. But yes we can simply observe.

Why shouldn’t he be upset?

I agree with you that this happens constantly in life but DB's dreams were not crushed forever.  He wasn't fired. He quit.  His dreams were delayed compared with one important persons statement that he was the "voice of supercross moving forward".  Others determined he had more dues to pay.

In my opinion, he can complain he wasn't treated well and that is fair.  If he was fired the story would be different.

Why does there have to be something “in it” for Blair? Sometimes, people feel passionately about things, especially when they feel that they were wronged. God forbid a dude care about something.

Interesting though, as Blair said, all the keyboard warriors who stood up for Blair caused more harm than good.

Maybe not everything is vitalmx's (message boarders) business.  I think Blair spoke his mind, has washed his hands of it, and is ready to move on.

Because new fans will continually be confused when RC keeps predicting race moves that never happen or materialize making new fans think this sport is being called by clowns. It comes off unprofessional to have an amateur in the booth.

There are plenty  of people  at my work who are in positions where someone  better didn’t  get the job.  Politics  and DEI.

I've seen cases of people being overlooked for promotions and recognition that actually deserved it.  A major company I worked for in fact.   Our manager would overlook two women who busted their ass and were far better engineers than the his cronies he favored.   That really use to piss me off.

Power does shitty things to certain personality types.

Same manager overlooked a patent I wanted to submit because it was more mechanical in nature than electrical.    I submitted it anyway and it was accepted by our company patents department.  Years later when the patent was granted, he pulled me in his office and laid into me.    How his management congratulated him on his department with multiple patents and mine showed up with the group of them.      Why was he pissed....because he forced everyone to put him as co-creator on all patents and he didn't get a piece of mine.   I said to him, "I showed it to you and you felt it didn't have merit".    I loved when they hung my patent on the wall with the others.          Guy was a weapons grade asshole.   Only reason he kept me around was because he couldn't find a better replacement for the niche position I held....f**ker needed me.

We were in a satellite office not the main headquarters in sillyCON Valley.  One day, upper management showed up unannounced and axed everyone....including the boss who had no idea it was coming.    "Cost cutting measures"...which we later found out was due to our company being acquired.    Bosses deer in the headlights look was priceless.    That was a great day as I had been hunting to get out of there anyway.

How exactly do you think this will "hurt" the sport.

Only my opinion but this very well may give industry insiders second thoughts about putting themselves out there for interviews, media members stuck in the middle, media outlets such as NBC wondering if it’s worth it for a very small market share etc.

For example somebody like Eli who is just finally opening up to the media and fans. JT, Matthes, ML512, Jamie Guida, Villo stuck in the middle. Who knows? Yeah of course this will blow over but I dont think it can be good.

And the irony of the keyboard warrior “fans” bullying the so called bully who just so happens to be the sports widely billed greatest of all time. Hell even before this blew up the criticism of his announcing issues was brutal.

New fans who've not heard of RC will be wondering 'who the fuck is this blithering idiot?  And 'why can't this halfwit speak properly? And 'why has the NBC hired someone with zero ability as a colour commentator?

They'll also be asking about Leigh Wiffey: 'What is this brain dead simpleton yapping about?

Yes, and it's been entirely deserved. He's the worst colour commentator in the history of motorsport and has managed to keep his position year after year in spite of this.
