Simon is fast as shit but I dont remember anyone of his caliber having such terrible stamina that it is nearly a danger to himself and competitors. A few years ago I thought he was going to die in i believe Sardinia from heat stroke. Today he lost the overall and fell two or three times in the last 2 laps from apparent exhaustion.
Does Simon have health issues we dont know about, similar to Pourcel?
I don't know, to me it looked like he got caught by the heat. He won quite a few heavy sand moto's in the GPs over the past few years, so I'm not sure if fitness in general is an issue for him
Cripes, the young bloke got 3rd OA, and is 3rd in the points with the Qualifier points added.
That's not too bloody shabby, I think.
If he had any issues, he dealt with them well.
I think it was Coldenhoff that said that it was something like 4C at Leirop the weekend before, and they'd come over into 30 /35C temperatures within the few days between.
You'll find a fair bit of variance in how riders cope with the change, and the Considerable Travel vicissitudes one can encounter. I'd say Langenfelder did rather well, if he indeed has 'problems'.

And if the OP does look exactly like that, then what? He can't ask if an elite GP riders fitness is up to snuff?
He can do, and I will naturally respond as above

Outside of Pourcel, I can't think of any top rider that struggled so visibly in heat over multiple years. Is there something else going on?
Wasn't it Derek Drake that found a serious heart issue after testing from being too tired?
Simon is my guy in MX2, it blew me away to see that struggle. He had the GP won easily and completely fell apart. I don’t know what happened…
It's just genetics. He is more sensitive than others to heat. People seem to think that just because you are a elite athlete you can disregard things we ourselves experience everyday. 4 to 35 degrees? That's a lot. Two days of racing. Rain, probably high humidity due to that.
Move along, nothing to see here 😄
I agree, he's just more susceptible to heat than others. The times he fell in corners you could see it was because he lost his balance. That's not lack of fitness but a symptom of heat stroke.
I remember Seewer and Tixier having issues in Thailand, not being allowed to start moto 2 after getting (IV?) threatment. Not sure how it's called.
Herlings had serious heat issues in Ottobiano 2017, couldn't even get to the podium. Glenn Coldenhoff couldn't even stand on the podium after his first podium finish back in 2013, he had to sit down during the ceremonies
These riders dig deep. Simon probably knew he had the GP win in the pocket, even though he couldn't maintain his speed but he kept trying. I haven't seen this from him before, normally in my eyes he always was one of the fittest riders in this class.

Looks fit enough to me. How hot was it yesterday?
Febvre also hit the wall at one point in moto 2 - assuming because of the heat. I don't think this is related to fitness at all.
If a guy from Florida can handle heat better than a guy from Germany it doesn't mean he's fitter...
As it turns out, it's hard to race in the summer in the Southern hemisphere when you've traveled directly from winter in the northern hemisphere.
Maybe I'm thinking about this differently than most: if one person's body is more fit to compete in hot weather then I consider it in the subject of fitness. I completely get what you guys mean about the effects of heat on different body types, and that probably answers my question.
I do not question Simon's work ethic, dude is a multi-time GP winner on the most sought-after factory ride in the GPs.
Heat and humidity was a problem for a few guys on Sunday.
Remember, these riders are training in Spain and Portugal where the weather isn't that hot and humid. Flying half way around the world, dealing with jet lag, and different food ain't easy either.
Last year at Sardegna it was the same situation where riders did dutch masters at a couple of degrees and 6 days later they were out in close to 30 degrees weather. Many had issues with that, obviously not as painfull as losing a gp win
Pit Row
A guy named Eli Tomac had a problem with the heat.
Some humans have more trouble with thermoregulation than others.
You would think pro rider like him could slow down and relax before hitting wall.
...After the tip over that lost him the overall, I think Langenfelder lost his mind a little and forgot how to ride, he was visually struggling with ruts he had no problem with the lap prior.
Remember all these fast kids are 23 and under, not every guy can be tactical and ice cold all the time - I give you Sexton as a prime example...
Apparantly he had a bit of food poison and wasn’t able to hydrate enough between the races. So just dehydrated
