lol, I know A1 seems a long time ago but when Kitchen pulled out after practice there was no one saying they expected Deegs to have any competition on the West. The expectation was that he would dominate the West

I'd say Deegan had some bad starts but the speed is there... Looking at the last West race you can see Deegan has the speed.

Glendale Main Race 1 - fastest lap time of the race - Deegan 1.01.201

Glendale Main Race 2 - fastest lap time of the race - Deegan 1.01.897

Glendale Main Race 3 - 2nd fastest lap time of the race - Deegan 1.02.178

Deegan has won 2 SMX titles riding consistent and not necessarily winning every race.

Deegan has the speed and is 3 points behind the leader in the 250 West Standings and he started off a little slow. The title is within reach. Hampshire was 3rd after Glendale last year 5 points back and won SX West. Supercross can be a lot about consistency and the start.

Don't sleep on the top 4 or 5 of the 250 West riders. Davies was a legit fast rider coming into the start of the series. Smith has always been fast. Ju Ju has shown he is elite 250 rider now but unfortunately the Red Plate has been a little heavy for him. Joe is fast but hurt for now and out the the SX championship picture but could be a spoiler.

I thought it was interesting watching the east race and Deegan's riding partners at Star (Anstie and Bennick) were 1 & 2 in the Main event in the "stacked" 250 East. Actually, Anstie was fastest in qualifying. I'd say Deegan is > than or = to Anstie. Obviously the East has some to tier riders in Brown, Kitchen, Hampshire, Mcadoo, Hymas, Hammaker, Vialle and Forkner.

It will be an interesting West series with Ju Ju, Smith, Deegan and Davies fighting for podiums. Deegan getting 2nd overall the last two years in East Supercross, I think this is his year to win it.

I agree with your assessment and I was going to make similar points. Everyone thought it was going to be Kitchen versus Deegan in the west. I think saying Deegan is underwhelming is not giving enough credit to the other guys racing against him right now.

Beaumer was my dark horse for the west before the year started, but he took his riding to a new level this year. Outside of those tip overs in Glendale, I’d argue he has been the best overall in the 250 class in supercross so far. He is consistently qualifying fastest and they have the KTM dialed on starts right now. I am still in awe of Davies’ progress. Every race he literally looks like he is taking the next step forward and it would not shock me if he becomes the guy in Supercross starting next year in the 250 class. I do think that highly of Davies. Smith has always been fast but inconsistent. Jo would be a lot better if he wasn’t injured in San Diego.

Deegan has struggled with starts and overriding the track. He is very aggressive and as others have mentioned, that seems to suit him very well in the outdoors, but it is not working as well in Supercross. Outside of Anaheim 1 in the heat race, has he gotten a holeshot? I am not buying the comment of him riding at 75% of his ability. I think he severely underestimated Beaumer and was not expecting Davies to be as good as he is. Deegan is very capable of winning this championship, and if he does, I’d find it hard to believe that is underwhelming.

And the Deegan camp knows it! That’s the reason Brian is already talking about the 4 year plan they had to win a championship so they take some pressure off for this year.

Of course he can still win and he might do but it’s not smooth sailing like expected.
And all the overriding of the bike is not going well with a 450. He needs to re learn his style for the 450

Sometimes a two year plan turns into a 4 year plan.

Slightly underwhelming the reason for that is because he's overriding the shit out of the bike in some panic mode, he's the fastest 250 rider out there but he ain't the best at the moment, that goes to Cole Davis.

It's only a matter of time where Cole Davis is faster than all 250 riders in SX, probably by next year.

West is stronger than East.

So you’ve been watching practice at the goat farm? It’s very likely Deegs is #4 when it comes to SX practice at the farm, now that Brown is out maybe he can start getting some podiums during practice

So how much longer are we opening the program with the Deegs Monstermercial?  It would be truly classic if Max beats him in an E/W….

actually he crashed his brains out his rookie year. Deegans rookie year was much better by comparison. So far RC has the better sophomore year but if Deegan wins the title i would say its pretty even.

97 Indy he landed off a small triple a rider was dragging his ft going into a tight rt. RC crashed into him @ broke his clutch lever off.  Next weekend he dominated. Remember the flat pancake whip on billboards ? That was from ATL.  98 after the race & championship. RC busted out countless can, cans & Huge whips after the race. These little islands in the Chesapeake Bay Area r Scumming as hell.

I don't think you are wrong with this assessment. Deegan can still win the championship and is a great rider. No one is doubting that. What we are saying is he is not dominating like he should be with the amount of shit he talks. If he did not talk so much about how much better he is than everyone then no one would care right now and would say he is having a fine season. But when you stand on the podium and constantly shit on the guys that beat you the next weekend it's not a good look.

It's not that complicated. Deegan is a freakin awesome motocross rider, and a pretty good but far from perfect supercross rider.

Sure, on paper before the season started, it looked like Deegan should've won this class fairly easily. He has definitely not been super impressive outside of A2, and his bad starts in rounds 1 and 2 are the main reason for that. Let's say he starts within the top 5 at those rounds and goes 3-2 instead of 5-3 for shits & giggles - he would have the points lead. I know, 'if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle'. I'm just saying, it's not like he's been getting straight-up whipped every week.

Additionally, I think part of this is due to the competition rising above expectations. I truly believe Julien is an elite 250 SX rider at this point. Put him against any riders and I think he could win races. Also, Jordon Smith has ALWAYS been fast. He had pace on the almighty Levi Kitchen for about half of the races last year. He's never truly respected going into a championship, though, because his inconsistency always costs him at least a dozen points per season. Lastly, Cole Davies is straight-up one of the best rookie SX riders I've ever seen.

It's the same lame shit every week.

I saw a commercial on TV.....there's an APP for mental health support in dealing with Deegan Derangement Syndrome.    For the life of me, I can't name the APP....so much for marketing.     Just do a search....🤣

Nothing wrong with that. It's all the other stuff. Nothing really that wrong with the rest either, it's just fun to watch the loud guy get humbled. That's just a universal archetype. It's just entertainment. We're debating WWE at this point.

Three races in- yes his career is over as we know it! 🤣

In all seriousness- after crushing everyone at outdoor and then at SMX I expected him to do the same these first three rounds- So yes it’s been underwhelming.

That being said, I expect by end of 2025 we will look back and see that overall he crushed everyone in the 250 class again

I tend to agree because you tend to remember the last thing you saw. So after he wrecks everyone in mx we'll be saying he's a world beater. It's going to be an 85/15 mx to sx split of crushing. He needs another year of 250 sx

So far hes basically barcia with a youtube channel. Through mx and sx theyve been pretty similar but Barcia dominated his 3rd year in sx though. So hes behind there.

Thats not a knock as barcia was a phenom in the 250’s. At this point in his career hes kind of like a cross between barcia and baggett. Great riders, top 1-5 guys, but not generational riders like a jett. He still has room to improve though his story is not finished yet. A lot of guys will be retiring in the 450 class soon so hes gonna most likely be a top 5 guy in that class too when he gets there.

At the moment juju is looking like hes a tick better and davies is looking like he could be the next generational talent coming up through the ranks.
