Sorry if this is a little OT, but he and his son were giant moto fans.
This guy (Mike) was closer to me than any of my actual "brothers". He was my best man at both my weddings, I did the same for him. My parents always thought him another son. I taught his son how to ride, and even though they never stepped foot on a real track, they could trail ride forever.
He called me on Teusday and left a message to call him back. I didnt recognize the number, Ive been down with this bullshit strain of the Flu, so I was hammered.
He called me again Thursday (yesterday), same message, "call me back". Again, didnt recognize the number.
I got another call this morning from the same number. I was feeling a little better, so I grabbed it, thinking to give him shit for calling for calling me so much while I was dying!!
It was his Mom on the other end of the line, telling me that Mike had died of a massive heart attack early this morning.
I always thought I had plenty of time to call him back............
I guess the moral of my story is, if there is anyone in your life that you love or cherish, treat every day like it may be your last.
Pick up the phone
Keep the dinner plans
Tell them how you feel.
Whatever the circumstances, let them know now, there may not be a later as I painfully found out.
Again, sorry for the semi-OT, just had to get it out.
Thanks
D

A few years back I was at Monster Mountain for a LL's qualifier. Throughout the two days there, I saw a friend of mine but either he was busy or talking to someone or I was doing the same, so neither of us really had an opportunity to say hello or shake hands.
We both left with him heading north and me heading home.
Two days later he was in a car crash with a famous racer and left paralyzed.
Eventually he recovered somewhat.
I learned from that incident just as you've learned from this that no matter how busy you are, stop and say hello and shake hands with your friends, because you may never have that chance again.
prayers sent.
If we can help in anyway you have our #.
You know, I worry about that everytime my dad goes riding, especially in the summer, but for 60 years old, that might be just what keeps him going!
On a side note, I saw Mike Shirley today out at River Valley, we talked for a while and your name came up, imagine that, anyway, get yourself a bike and come riding, you never know when it might be too late....
Later,
James

Just remember the good times with your friend, that's what he would want.
