Pretty common in the real world for people to find out from another source that they have been sued before they've been served with the summons. Media generally won't know about the status of service. Service can take time and comes after complaint is filed. Sometimes the plaintiff will alert media that they've filed suit. It's all public record in any event.
Not sure why the Lawrences (and I guess Wasserman) went public with a cannon shot, maybe given the Alpinestars angle and reputation issues that come with that sort of thing. Many things can affect whether legal recourse is sought with a bang or on the down low.
